Does the perfect game controller design exist?

The XBO controller is about as close to perfect as anyone has gotten thus far. It only has a couple flaws and the things it does right it does ideally.

The only flaws it has are the fact that the bumper buttons are really uncomfortable to use and there's no proper wired-only option. Outside of those two things, perfect controller.

Attached: 3max.jpg (497x435, 32K)

I always thought it caters to bigger hands. Definitely more travel distance for people with a smaller grip.

No. You want a perfect controller? You need custom made controllers hat conforms to your fat hands, you fucking faggot pizza pocket eating neck beard intel.

yup

no u

Yes and we'll never get it because retards thought it looked too funny, as if aesthetics are more important than fucking ergonomics for something you hold for hours while looking at something else. I'm not even joking, everyone who held the thing said it was incredibly comfy, think of it like the top half of a steering wheel and then it starts to make sense why it worked so well. Fuck every knee jerk mongoloid who made them redesign it.

>proper wired-only option
Why, though?
The wire is a common failure point so being able to replace it is a pro.

That being said, the XBO controller is great and I love it. The left side is also really easy to claw.

A FUCKING LEAF

Forgot my pic because I was so angry. Fuck you OP for making me remember what I was denied.

Attached: 2005-ps3-batarang.jpg (480x250, 11K)

I wish they followed through with that.
Normally the most retarded looking controllers feel the best on your hands.
Just look at the fucking gamecube controller.

it wasn't an actual design. it was a troll post.

>I'M TRYING TO THROW IT AWAY BUT IT KEEPS RETURNING

>throw it in anger
>it comes back

For individuals? Yes. For all people? No. Different people have different needs/preferences. I prefer the DS4, while my wife prefers the Xbone Elite controller, for example. I've used the controller, and don't hate it (there are things about it I actually really like), but I still prefer the hand positioning of the DS4.

This thing looks so comfy. Now I'm tempted to get the DS4 version.

Attached: slime-controller.jpg (800x400, 59K)

Yes, mouse and keyboard.

I couldn't imagine playing a 3D platformer with KB+M. Unless said platformer is Tomb Raider or Croc, of course.

>comfy
First, you're a retard.
Second, it looks like a disability in a month.

Here it is

Attached: 1357093936793.jpg (960x822, 52K)

What's wrong with it? Ergonomics-wise, there's no sign of any unnatural way of holding it.

I played all PC and emulation games without a controller from 90's to 2012. Controller support was really crappy during the dinput era. Ironically playing with a controller made me worst at fighting and racing and I can't imagine myself playing GTA games without a mouse.

Yeah. Using the d-pad for a prolonged duration gets really uncomfortable.

>tfw hands so small I find the vita to be the best controller

In my mind the ideal controller would be something like an ergonomic version of Switch controllers where my arms aren't locked into one position for hours.

>Ergonomics-wise, there's no sign of any unnatural way of holding it.
Meaning you're either have no idea what ergonomics is and/or you're blind.
Even on the promotion image itself, the grip shown has the hands placed at an unnatural angle for prolonged usage. And that's probably as comfortable as it gets, because the grip shown is not the one you would use to actually play games - you would have to grip the "controller" even deeper to reach the full range of motion of the stick and all the buttons, meaning you would have to bend your wrists even more.
It's hilarious how terribly non-ergonomic this piece of shit controller is, and it's also deeply concerning there are actual retards like you out there who would look at this piece of shit and think "comfy" to themselves. Maybe you should tune it down with memes and remind yourself what "comfortable" is supposed to mean.

>my arms aren't locked into one position for hours

You could stop playing the game instead of sitting there for hours.

heh

Get a load of this guy

Autism

This one on Amiga was so good. I would say XBone, except bumbers are not really in the right place, d-pad is probably the best ever made.

Attached: Joy0215a.jpg (1596x1600, 614K)

>no gyro and/or touch
is shitbiscuits, buy ds4, steam controller or switch pro

To change arm positions I tend to stand up while playing for 15-20 minutes then sit back down for the rest of the hour. It helps alot

watch this

Attached: switch opis 3 polska.jpg (883x720, 74K)

Why would I buy shit when I can get a good controller instead?

> unusable on fighting games
> perfect

Gyro is only useful for FPS games, which should be played properly with mouse and keyboard anyway.

because it doesn't have essential 21st century controls, it's functionally the same as ds1 that was released in 1997

>playing fighting games with a gamepad
Aren't you retarded.
That being said, the XBO controller is as good as any other one (meaning "not very") for fighting games. 360 used to have a shitty D-pad, but XBO fixed that issue.

I love the xBone controller for its ergonomics and ease of use, but it always seems to end up having some minor defect or another, like sticky face buttons, unresponsive bumpers, squeaky triggers or stick drifting. On the other hand I've had a DS4 for years, it's still working like it did on the first day but I fucking hate how it sits in my hands.

Lol, 90's babies need their precious analogs sticks so badly that companies will cram them into any controller model they make, even if it's against the original design. Fucking pathetic.

Attached: 000.jpg (462x490, 40K)

>essential
But they aren't?
It does the actual essential controls the best without adding completely useless bloat.

Switchfag here, you won't believe how many times I caught myself trying to control the camera by tilting the controller in other games after playing Splatoon. It's just more natural to have that kind of direct control.

It has all the buttons you need for maximum number input

Attached: snes-super-famicom-offiziell-lizenzierter-controller-keypad-controller-grau-ntt-data.jpg (2000x2000, 252K)

>gyro
>touchpad
>essential

>useless bloat
t. Gyroless faggot

They've been on both Nintendo and Sony since mid-late 00s. Xbox was the lowest common denominator that game devs had to cater to, so a lot of stuff is gimped to not need them.

I h8 the xbox controller PS one is ok nothing more to say really

>games never let you use the mouse and a controller at the same time

Why must I suffer so?

Very Cheap plastic, uncomfortable sticks prone to issues, for me it was constant backward movement even in a neutral position. These problems arose 5 months after owning an xbone. Xbone didn't even come with a controller charger. Was lucky I was able to recoup most of my losses on it. What a travesty of a console.

Meaning, it's useless bloat.
I thought you had gyro, weird. Props to you being so open about your sexuality though! ^;)

Unironically this. It always ends up as a personal preference, obviously, but this is the most comfortable controller I've tried.
The trackpad is mostly useless, but it functions as a giant button (2 buttons) which are really comfy for certain actions, it depends on the game.

I like the ABXY buttons of the Xbox more, I think they are nicer to press and more precise, but the positions of the sticks
don't make sense for me (I like to walk and control the camera with my thumbs in the same position) and overall it feels weird in my hands.

I end up preferring the PS4's controller for almost every genre of games, except for fighting or 2D platformers where I actually find the Xbox
controller comfier.

Attached: dualshock 4.jpg (3349x3200, 717K)

>fighting games
lmao who cares

No, meaning a lot of stuff is worse than it could be in places where you don't have choice, but on PC where you can choose your controls you usually can set them up to use gyro for superior experience.

But you really don't get the "superior experience", user. Not with gimmicks. Not when your main control scheme is straight up inferior.

I want to be nice to you, but your points don't line up user
>the bumper buttons are really uncomfortable
for you maybe, but you would have to explain how you press the buttons. If you have your controller in your hand and you aren't using the middle of your index fingers to press the bumpers, while still having your fingers on the triggers, you're not doing it right.
>proper wired-only option
USB cable, problem solved. Now with two points of failure you can either replace the cable or the controller. But at least this way you have an option before throwing the controller away.

I played blacklight retribution on my bed with a mouse for aiming and shooting and hold my xbox controller in my left hand for moving. It works.

Is agent 47 a sociopath or psychopath? by using the medical terms.

How is having more of more versitale and more precise controls inferior?

honestly can not imagine how can you be worst with racing on controller. without option to accelerate and break with variable intensity.

>that option button

It's called keyboard.

More of an exception than a rule desu. Try some modern thing like R6 Siege, it gets very confused.

The fuck? It's the ideal controller for fighting games. It's one of the only ones that does not fuck up your inputs. Vita had a very similar d-pad.

Keyboard gets carried by mouse, it's really kinda shit.

It sure does

Attached: re4controller.jpg (480x223, 51K)

I agree that it's too flat, but it's irrelevant gameplay wise, so not a really heavy con

This

Mouse is literally perfection in camera control and precision, but keyboards are not ergonomic for gameplay at all

based

You press accelerate in short bursts. I played through all NFS games from the first one on DOS to Most Wanted without any problem.

Are these out yet?

The joysticks are in the wrong spot otherwise it would be the perfect controller. Xbox got it half right. You have to strain your thumbs down to use them. Perfect thumb resting position would be straight up like you're giving a high five.

The Start/Select buttons are also too small and awkward to click.

>more of
Useless bloat
>more versitale
Yeah, I love "Shake to [ACTION]"
>more precise controls
Lmao no, I'd rather aim with a d-pad than use these earthquake controls

Because your MAIN controls are inferior, that's why.
Let me spell it for you - if MS manages to shove gyro/touchpad/onahole into Xbox controller without messing up the layout - it will an improvement. A marginal one, however. Meanwhile, the overall layout and ergonomics Xbox controller has over PS4 or Switch is a major improvement.
I minor improvement on top of major improvement is good.
Trading a major improvement for a minor one is not.

Functionality-wise, KB+M is unparalleled, yet for the games that do not need the excessive functionality of KB+M ergonomics and form-factor have a bigger impact. That's why you play DMC or Dark Souls on a gamepad.

*blocks ur path*

Attached: 26-153-116-14.jpg (640x480, 22K)

can you call nintendo with that

DS4 is perfect blend of form and function, you can't argue with that. If you really want asymmetric sticks, Switch Pro has slightly less function with its lack of analog triggers and touchpad but is still better than dumbone. Or you can get one of those aftermarket asymmetric PS4 controllers, they are usually fully featured (unlike Switch controllers for some reason)

>You have to strain your thumbs down to use them.

This is true, but I feel more in control or at least it feels more precise when using the Dualshock 4's sticks
When using the Xbox controller, turning the left stick to the left seems harder than turning ir right, whereas with the DS4 all directions require equal effort

It's porbably just me though, since all hands are structured differently, and I'm being nitpicky just for the sake of comparison

Shame about the D-pad, but it's the best Controller out there.

Attached: 6295908_sd.jpg (1769x1230, 148K)

Wrong. What a nigger zoomer.

When they announced the PS3 they showcased the controller too.

It was a placeholder because the DualShock patent was being disputed. One of the reasons the original PS3 controllers didn’t have vibration.

It was a great design though.

>Controller support was really crappy during the dinput era.

Attached: 61uXK-RvjML._SX425_.jpg (425x425, 16K)

Where can I buy this?

>USB cable, problem solved.
No. It isn't. If the solution were that simple, I wouldn't have mentioned it. The connection is just not secure enough and frequently disconnects. The more you use the controller, the already flimsly connection gets progressively looser. If you play fighting games online, the constant disconnecting will cost you too many matches and you'll be stuck using wireless mode simply for its reliability despite the load it adds to the input delay.

Just when i buy a sfc30 pro they release this?

fucking zoomers, there's a reason terms like clickers exist and have a bad connotation. just some random example that instantly popped in my head - pls play end game mmos or competitive rts without keyboard. you know what? play them on some hard mode version the game has and then come back. kbm is perfection

The entire ARPG / hack and slash genre is being held back by keyboards, mate.

I'd fucking love to have analog movement in path of exile instead of clicking everywhere.

>DS4 is perfect blend of form and function
It has worse form and marginally better function.
It is far from being perfect. Hell, it isn't even good.

PS3 move of left hand (instead of wasd + other controls) and mouse on right

I have one of these but I actually rarely use it for gaming. I use it for my drawfaggery with my screen tablet and it's godly for that. It's fine as a gaming controller too but there are only a few games where I feel like I need it instead of a keyboard.

Literally an xbox pad but worse as it has no analog triggers

Definately the best PC pad considering the shit you can do with it thanks to the touchpad
Only time I don't use it is fighting games as I use an arcade stick and arcade racing games where I prefer the 360 pad

Not until controllers get more buttons, buddy.
>10 buttons, that require you to remove your thumb off the stick for many of them
vs
>17 immediately surrounding the main movement inputs, not even counting your other hand

>No gyro
>No dual stage triggers
>Limited to the standard allotment of buttons with no extras
>D-Pad is only good in the primary position and is otherwise worthless regardless of how much the D-Pad is improved technically
And because I'm ranting about perfect controllers I may as well just add that there are no capacitive buttons and no well placed touchpad.

I feel like if you have control of the camera then you'll want to use it to some degree.

The ergonomic factor of shifting the stick makes the stick control better while simultaneously fucking up the D-Pad so even if you don't value the D-pad much it balances out to a minor improvement at best since you're exiling 4 buttons.
Everything else on the DS4 is better (aside from the start/select buttons) and you're trading some minor strain on the left stick for it which is only noticeable if you're holding one direction constantly.

>caters to bigger hands
The controller is tiny, it needs to be at least 1.2x the size

Needs batteries

Until the Xbox 360 and the Xinput standard came around, button and stick names and placement were not standardized.

One brand would have "button 1" be where the triangle button is on the dualshock, or L2 on another brand. The D-pad would be the hat switch, another set of buttons, or a set of analog axis. Left stick would be X/Y axis, but the right stick be some weird axis name like Z-rotation and Z-twist or some shit. The face buttons could also be a set of axis. Due to non-standards many games had trouble dealing with axis and hat-switch support or didn't bother with controller support period.

Just use Joy2Key, and map the controller to the keyboard keys user

Yes it was, also PC gamepads were shit back then. The one you're posting is one of the best and latest dinput era gamepads.
>buttons were mapped differently on all controllers
>game not supporting joystick at all
>game using analog triggers as digital
>game not recognizing analog triggers
>stick deadzone issues
>dpads crappier than even the 360 controller

You don't get analog movement with Joy2Key, which defeats the entire purpose of using a controller in the first place.

I actually do take breaks, believe it or not, but it's still less comfortable than it could be.
Can't be that hard to cut an xbox gamepad in two and make it better than wii remote+nunchuk or joy-cons.

That is true user, you are correct

How long until we get what we all want:
scroll wheels on controllers

Attached: scrollwheel.gif (400x300, 49K)

The Xbone added a feature where you can use multiple controllers to control the same game. If that's not enough, be the change you want to see and mod your own controller.

playstation move controller - I got one and whilst I dont like it, it kinda fits the bill

Gyro is a lame an pointless gimmick
wtf are dual stage triggers

>touchpad
Ok so you are just terminally zoom.

Gyro is the next best thing to KB+M in controlling shooter games.

It's better than sticks, but also a lot worse than just using a mouse.

Attached: 1368385569623.jpg (797x729, 65K)

Wrong priorities
It's worse than mouse, but also immeasurably better than sticks

The best controller possible:
>Xbone controller
>with switch hd rumble and motion controls
>with C and Z face buttons that don't just mirror the shoulder buttons, instead actually providing a 5th and 6th face button
>with a VMU slot and screen

fisher-price got you covered

Attached: GUEST_26d74d4f-d5ff-4e98-b5da-80ef7be3617e.jpg (488x488, 38K)

DMC V does but it's not a very good setup

I've played WoW for years, and keyboards can do a lot to improve the experience (mostly in layout)

Someting like is an example

>be the change you want to see and mod your own controller.
I actually thought about it before. I know nothing about electronics but I guess I don't have any excuses to not just learn it.

No, because different games require different peripherals.

Arcade games and fighters MUST be played with a stick. It's the optimal way to play these games.

PC oriented genres like RTS and point and click / text adventures MUST be played with a mouse and keyboard. Most FPS as well.

Flight sims and racers MUST be played with flight sticks / wheels.

Every console game is best with the controller that it was originally designed for. It will always be best to play a classic NES game with a classic NES controller, for example. Though you don't HAVE to do this like you do with the others mentioned above.

I'm very skeptical about the analog sticks on those, but the 6-button Genesis controller is as close to perfection you can get for 2D games.
They fixed the dogshit D-Pad from the early Genesis controller and made it godly.
Also, the button layout allows you to play with either the regular grip or the superior asymmetrical grip when you need easier access to more buttons.
Never used the Saturn pad, but I'd imagine it's pretty much the same as the Genesis 6-button controller.

Attached: gennygrip.png (279x300, 6K)

xbone's dpad is still garbage compared to DS4

>objectively garbage for fighting games
Yeah, no.

Gimme

Gyro is pretty neat sometimes and there are a fair amount of non-FPS games where the added precision comes in handy.
>Terminally zoom
I mean it's stupidly difficult to do a touchpad right, it's not worth putting the face buttons in a bad position and anywhere else means you can't use it for decent camera control but it is at least very good for camera control and is quick to be used for going through a menu.

>Dual stage triggers
Means that the triggers essentially have 2 different inputs that can be easily distinguished like the Steam controller and Gamecube controller, it makes it much easier to set up a controller in a way that feels good to use by being economic with the available resources.

Absolute kek

>First, you're a retard.
>Second, it looks like a disability in a month.
Retardation is, by definition, a disability

I got a saturn pad as it has 2 shoulder buttons and i wanted a megadrive style controller, it feels smaller than the meadrive pad in the hand but its decent

Nah. Not really. It's pretty decent for modern games, but still not the perfect controller because there's quite a few superior ones for more classic or 2D games. The d-pad is precise but doesn't register diagonals often and it's way too clicky, buttons are harder to mash quickly. The m30 and the snes controller I have just blow it out of the water. I feel like I'm really sluggish with this thing in fighting games or platformers.

It's still really good for 3D games though, I'll admit. But what's supposed to be better in comparison to the 360 pad, which is the d-pad, because they didn't include much else, isn't even that great either. It's more like the 360 pad d-pad was awful. It's neat but if you have a 360 controller and you already have something else for other kinds of games... kinda pointless.

Speaking of the m30, I got it today. Maybe it won't last long, maybe it's not 1:1 like the saturn pad, but it is as decent as it needs to be for the price I paid. Wireless, comfy because of how round the thing is, not any more input lag than the other maybe 12 fucking gamepads I have laying around (except on android but thankfully I don't use it there), maybe even less than average, doesn't miss inputs. Only thing I can say that I don't dig much is that the buttons are kinda loud compared to SNES but still. -If- this lasts long enough (which frankly I doubt) I would call this near perfect.

Sauce on OP controller

Retro-bit was going to release some like these but they pulled out and apparently by september or so they will release essentially their saturn pads with analog sticks.
