The whole point of "more representation" in products is to increase the amount of those people buying your product. If your customer base is already saturated with those people, you have no reason to make your character that group or to make it pander to their desires.

For instance, the reason the tomb raider character is being de-sexualized is because they think they can get armies of women to buy the game ontop of all the men if they do that, and they will keep moving to that goal.

The reason everything in movies is having female leads is because, "men will watch it anyway anyway" but 53% of the US population is female.

You're going to see companies (movies and games) make their products less and less palatable to men to try attract women over the next few years, way more than they already are. They take men for granted, and they are right to.

I have never been a fan of the Tomb Raider franchise. But the old Lara looked like some pixelated trash while the new Lara actually looks like a human being and gives you some uncanny valley feeling. The animation on the hair and ass is excellent. If you wanted sex appeal, I have no idea why you wouldn't like the newer games more than the old ones. It's stupid. The average breast size in my country is a 30D but according to game devs that's an unreasonable size. Literally the average is unattainable for them.

Meanwhile they give every female character biologically impossible small waists. It's common trick to make a good looking female character without sinning by giving them a big chest or ass. For example none of the overwatch girls actually have a big ass, it's all just stupidly small waist size.

Women don't know what men want. Women obsess over their waists when honestly most guys can forgive a good amount of waist if the T&A is nice enough. Different guys have different thresholds, but my point is it's not the be-all end-all women think.

I love a tiny waist, but it is all about the ratio, with large breasts pulling in to the waist and then wide hips with a big ass. That ratio can be equally attractive at a few different actual sizes.

Regardless devs seem to just focus on literally impossibly small waists so as to avoid the sexism of passingly attractive breasts or asses, which they ironically condemn as unrealistic.

I don't get it, Legends-era Lara was a perfectly good compromise between the over-sexualization whining and nuLara and yet they're more than happy to throw that under the bus too.
