Post age and the ideal game length in hours.
Explain why you prefer it that length and also how much free time you generally have.
Post age and the ideal game length in hours
It depends a ton on the genre.
>JRPG
60-80 hours, can go over if the sidequesting is good but the main plot should be wrapping up around then.
>action/FPS
10-20 hours, multiplayer not being taken into account as that's worth playing as long as it's fun
>VN
Anywhere from 20 hours an up, skies the limit here as long as the story is interesting or the porn is good
>puzzle
5-10 hours, depending on how story-heavy it is it can easily get VN-treatment if it has a deep and complex story or character exploration
>RTS
20-30 hours for the campaign(s) to round off and there is multiplayer
>TBS
50-60 hours, the game will take a lot longer simply because it's built to be slower, overall should have it's shit done by the 50-hour mark though
Also, replayability is a meme.

A lot, but I try to fill it with different studies.

about 30h of core gameplay. After that, added longevity if someone really digs the game. E.g. in 7 days to die you'll probably just play until you've gotten high enough level, found good enough loot, and build a nice enough base, after which you'll probably be satisfied with a playthrough. In Mount & Blade you can play the game pretty much indefinitely until you get bored or conquer the map (but that in itself takes AGES).

any length is fine as long as the game doesnt end unfinished or it doesnt overstay its welcome
>how much free time you generally have
doesnt really matter. I'm not in a hurry to finish games.
Age 25
For a game like classic Castlevania, 6-8 hours is great.
Anything over 30 hours is a hard sell. Won't do Persona5 because I don't have that much time to sink anymore.
A game with arcadey vibes that is fun to replay is my choice.

I think 20-40 hours, depending on the game is good, some exceptions of course.
I have a lot of free time
22
>artsy games
can get away with short gameplay
>most other titles
12-18 hours
>complicated or high-depth games
minimum 40 hours, prefer a couple hundred
>21
I think as a whole a tripple A game should be looking for playtime around 60 hours long, but i dont think forcing every game to be the same length would improve the overal quality
>>JRPG
>60-80 hours
Good fucking god no. All that results in it is a poorly paced padded to fuck shit show. 20-40 is the sweet spot. Nice big quest, maybe some side stuff but above all else it moves at a brisk pace and makes the game infinitely more replayable. And not because it gives you a million useless options or filler side quests, but because it's just good.
my ideal game goes on forever with a perfect plot and gameplay mechanics so I can have that obsessed feeling and enjoyment for as long as I want...
I'm 22. Ideal length per-playthrough is 4-to-30 hours, depending on genre and pricepoint, not including tutorials and cutscenes. Replayability is key.
Fighting games on the other hand have infinite replay value. Not just from Local/Online Vs, but from Training mode lab time. I can sit in a fighting game labbing combos and mixups for hours and hours if I have the itch.
36
350+ hours
But if it's a story-driven game, it depends on game. 25 hours is okay.
>action/FPS

3-6 hours.
lol what free time
20
Not factoring in RPGs, 6-12 hours. I never stick around with the same game long enough to finish them
18
4-11 hours
I just prefer the more short and sweet experiences and when I do play a game thats longer Its usually not very story heavy like Factorio, Stardew Valley, Terraria etc
I have too much free time
Replayability is one of my favorite things in games. Not that every game should have it, but those that do, and do so fittingly, I really adore. Have a list of games i keep coming back to. Minecraft, Stalker, Oblivion, Morrowind, GTA San Andreas, 7 days to die, rimworld, Anno, from the top of my head.I have at least 100h in every one of those, and significantly more in some (the older ones that have been out a while, since there was generally more time to play them plus I have been in school when I played them so I had a lot of free time for vidya).

100+ hours or bust
all the free time in the world
>>VN
>Anywhere from 20 hours an up
either you're reading some huge fucking VNs or you read at a snail's pace
NEET or rich parents?

~13h is ideal when I'm in occupied (uni/job etc)
~50h is what I'm looking for when I'm on break
I used to think 30h was a good sweet spot but when I'm in uni I forget about it halfway in and when I'm free I keep putting them off for longer games.
isn't that the same thing
This is the post
every big name kamige is like 30+ hours. You must play dogshit like steam VNs and katawa shoujo
I have been playing xcom legendary ironman for a 100 hours until i got the ball rolling on my 8th playthru that isnt a failure
about to finally get some really high level psi soldiers , it is about to be GG for the ayys
i like it long that is all

>depends on the game. i was very satisfied with my experience with West of Loathing wherein i did everything i cared to within like 20 hours. other games I would consider a rip off if it lasts anything less than 60 hours.
>it varies. i only work 20 hours a week and sleep 5-6 hours a night but i have a partner and a kid too so its variable.

Really depends on the genre and game. Assuming single player only (multiplayer doesn't have a set duration), I would say that most linear games (fps, action, whatever) should be in the 6-12 hours mark, with maybe some exceptions for 15-20 if the game really merits it.
Free roaming and RPGs are fine in the 20-40 hours range.
I value the ability to not waste my time a lot. Too frequently longer games are long only because they were padded with uninteresting shit. Only a kid that can't buy more than one game per month thinks length is something to be praised a priori.
Rarely, if the game is REALLY good, it can go longer. But it needs to really merit its length. I played The Witcher 3 for 140 hours but not every game is that good.
It was nothing impressive
not contributing to the datamining aspect of the thread but
JRPGs should be 25-70 hours and that last one is pushing it as that almost always leads to padding and quality dropping. this is the genre i most expect to play a long game in.
Shooter campaigns can be anywhere from 3-15 hours depending on if it was intended to actually be a major thing or not (as in, if it's just an introduction for the multiplayer, i expect it to be on the much shorter side). i generally expect about 10 hours as the norm if the campaign is a major selling point of the game.
Platformers vary a ton especially since there are so many cheap low budget ones. Their replayability is a big aspect of what makes them enjoyable so a platformer can be just about any length so long as it's fun, a lot of the classics on NES are super short if you play through them without dying but they're fantastic. tend to get old and less creative if they drag on for too long but i'm not exactly sure what the upper hour limit would be.
Third person action games I expect 15-25 hours out of. They can be shorter if they're intended to be highly replayable for rankings and whatnot.
Bullet Hell/SHUMP games are meant to be fairly short but highly replayable, so no gauge on those.
Visual Novels can be any length, there are fantastic extremely short ones as well as high quality ones that can last for literal days worth of reading.
Sidescrolling gun games should be very short but have some of the most replayability on this list. And coop.
So basically, ~15 hours is kind of the ideal outside of JRPGs and VNs, but it varies a ton based on the game. If you don't hit that mark I would hope the game manages to have the replayability or some other appeal like Multiplayer to make me play at least that long or much longer.
well, that's a given
it's Yea Forums

>Preferred hours
If a game is amazing, take as many hours as it damn well pleases, but preferably in a postgame, so that the main game doesnt have pacing issues.
13
I only play Fortnite
23
8 hours
Too many games to play. Most games that run long extend shit out too long for what they're worth. If the gameplay is that good, it would have replayability based on that alone, and all the extra padding shit should be optional.
30 minutes to an hour. No bullshit. Games peaked in the 80s.
based opinion from a teenager 2bh
imagine thinking VNs are games. lol
21 and honestly I've wage cucked myself into mostly playing either shorter games or multiplayer games. But if the games good enough I will sink time into it.
