/vr/ as a board doesn't work.
The concept of "retro" is doomed to advance as we move fowards in time, it's inevitable.
The argument "but that doesn't work because all modern games are bad" isn't a sound one, because we celebrate the GOOD old games, conveniently forgetting about the 100:1 ratio of terrible games that were also shat out every month, since the dawn of this hobby.
To gatekeep what can be discussed at an arbitrary point in time doesn't promote more targeted discussion, instead it breeds stagnation, "no true scotsman" constant dickfighting, mixed with circlejerking because you can only talk about the same titles over and over up to a point before you run out of shit to even talk about.
/vr/ as a board was a mistake born out of short short-sightedness and the fact that the current regular there is almost as bad as the average lobotomized baboon here on Yea Forums is proof of it.
Why?
they hate it because of its cinematics and because is not thief.
To be honest Thief fans hate literally anything and everything.
A Thief fan is never happy, they'll show up in any thread about any stealth game on any board to bitch and moan, it's not just MGS.
>Game with guns
They hate it because it's not Doom.
m00t will just have to make /rvr/
MGS set the standard for movie games. It pioneered the modern cinematic experience which characterizes games today, especially Sony. Retro games were used to gameplay which is why /vr/ doesn't like it.
shitty excuse you are mad because the thief general is dead and people remember mgs more.
Retro games are very distinct from modern games in design philosophy and quirks. On the other hand, video games haven't advanced very much (and regressed in a number of ways) since the 6th gen. Keeping the /vr/ cutoff date at 2000 just makes sense.
A Thief fan once showed up in a Prime thread, shitting on the game because it didn't have as many movement mechanics like leaning and swimming. At that point, I'm certain it was just false flagging, but boomers tend to shit on anything that's not a "classic" arena shooter or immersive sim.
Thief fans can enjoy splinter cell or Dishonored too.
I have never played Thief and I am mad that I wasted my life watching MGS when I thought I would be playing it instead. Kojima is a hack that couldn't cut it in Hollywood.
>Dishonored
MY FUCKING
S
I

E
S
If only you were around when Dishonored was first released.
We had Thief autists literally shitposting half the goddamn board trying to destroy any discussion of that game with targeted constant shitposting.
It went on for more than a year, every day.
also mgs has gameplay regardless what memers say.
also it came out 1998 so is retro.
>muh kojima boogeyman
>one autistic guy spams the same shitposting thread over and over
>GUYS THIS IS WHAT EVERYONE ON /vr/ THINKS!!!!!!!!! i'm totally not that guy btw
ok /vr/
>stale ass b-b-b-but [/insert board here/] is not one person meme
/vr/ is a slow fucking board, it's super obvious when one autist has an axe to grind
>meme
But it's correct in all cases. Usually when faggots try to generalize an entire board, they have an agenda.
Most Thief fans despise Dishonored, and if they like Splinter Cell, it’s only Chaos Theory
thief threads being dead on /vr/ was a good karma.
I fucking love Thief as a series (aside the most recent entry) but goddamn why the fuck are Thief fans such a lump of cancer.
So many years of shitposting on Yea Forums, constant bitching and moaning.
mgs threads on /vr/ suck
/vr/ likes MGS though. Shitposters that come there from Yea Forums don't count. Same goes for Ocarina of Time and Mario 64
no they dont
I know better retard I actually browse /vr/. They even list it as one of their favorites sometimes
You clearly didn't played a single 6th gen game recently to say such enormous bullshit.
Between then and now, games drastically changed. Even games from the 7th gen are vastly different to the games from the 8th.
to be fair to them, Chaos Theory is the only one worth liking
bump.
