Original has better colors but slightly shorter lifespan
actual lifespan or battery life?
I have original and OLED is much better but people say slim is comfier to hold
I get cramps soon (2hrs) in my hands when playing my fat vita
I have slim version and the screen triggers the fuck out of me
it has a green tint that is too noticeable on some games
Lifespan.
en.wikipedia.org
I can confirm this happens, since you've never owned a Vita you won't notice how much shittier the slims screen is compared to the fat, buy a slim. It has better lifetime, battery and hold.
Originals are made out of metal and use OLED screens, but they're aging and won't look as nice nowadays. Heavier too.
Slims have LED screens and are lighter, more plastic feeling.
If you don't care about portability and want more storage options then get a PSTV
thanks, i'll definitely get a slim then.
I've had both and while I love my OG, I think the slim's probably the slightly better choice. Screen's still good, on my unit at least and it's much lighter and thinner. The extra battery life is nice too, not to mention how much easier it is to CFW if that's your plan. You don't need a Vita memory card at all thanks to the 1 gig internal, you can go straight from that to an SD2Vita.
The 1000 isn't actually made out of metal, the metallic rim is plastic. The whole front piece is glass though, unlike the 2K where it's just glass around the screen.
I dunno, I tried to hack my friend's 2000 and the internal memory made configuring the SD2VITA really confusing. I had to stick in an old 8GB Vita memory card just to get things sorted out
How so? I did it just last week and it seemed pretty straightforward to me. Didn't have to dig out my old 4 gig card or format the 16 gig one out of my 1000, which was nice. The configuration seemed as simple as following the instructions for mount points to me.
Bought a pre-owned original with the OLED screen and jesus fuck those colors look good. It was mostly a supply and demand thing, I got the original for cheaper. However it has a proprietary charging cable and you have to deal with their shitty bespoke memory card solution too, which isn't cheap.
not him but you can switch your "real" vita memory and the sd2vita (ux0 and uma0) and if they are same size it's difficult to tell which is which if you forget.
>you have to deal with their shitty bespoke memory card solution too
why don't you just hack it so you can use sd cards?
>. However it has a proprietary charging cable
replacements are 2€ on ebay
I dunno, I haven't looked into it but I don't think my firmware is the correct version.
On all models except the 3G 1000 there's really no option to do that while also keeping physical copies easily accessible, which might be a dealbreaker for some people. Not many, but some.
Still less convenient than it just using a standard connector, especially if you're traveling with it.
Any system on 3.68 or below can be hacked right now. 6.69/70 both have an exploit coming in a couple of weeks. All Vitas today are either currently hackable or soon to be.
Ah that's cool, thanks for the heads up user.
If you're interested take a look at the guides in the OP of the homebrew general, there's one step involved with preparing for the unreleased exploit. You've just got to grab a vulnerable game now, several of which are free, and will probably be pulled when the exploit is announced. If your system is below 3.69 though, you're good to go immediately as long as you don't update.
Some games have compatibility issues with the PSTV.
How do you replace the OLED on a fat model without replacing the entire front panel decal?
I have a red fat vita and it's kinda hard to come across official replacement screens
I don't think there's a way to do that due to how the panel is fused with the front glass.
You can get a whitelist modifier on a CFW'd system which helps a bit.
Yes but there are games which use the touchscreen and there is no way around that.
>aging
how so
OLED panels, especially early-ish ones like the Vita 1000's, do have shorter lifespans than traditional LCDs. However it's unlikely to be too much of a problem with proper care.
Pro-tip: you can improve quality of LCD if your Vita is hacked. I did it and LCD became almost as good as OLED.
The way to do it is simple, but I'm not gonna link rebdit, so find it yourself.
no problems here. press the home button every half hour or something and you'll be fine.
most of the OLED FUD is by morons that owned shitty early samsung phones.
Mura is just a characteristic of the screen, not a defect.
"werks on my machine :^)"
but I've literally never had an issue with my og Vita's battery life, and that's including months spent in standby.
For comparison my 3ds is dead after a day.
Ive been wanting to get one, but fuck cant find one for less than 100
i love my vita, especially playing megaman x2 at 45 fps whenever the cx4 is used in game is especially nice.
at least its better than my n3ds that run mmx2 at an uncinematic 60fps.
Use the shell to make a file that has the name "IM THE SD.txt" on the SD2VITA stick.
I would enjoy my Vita more when it had a proper UI like the PS3 or PSP XMB. Bubble design is the worst fucking thing ever
Did someone say vita thread?
Not sure why it's upside down, opened it in image editor just to double check too.
original has a better looking screen, weights more and will always have a port with nothing to connect
slim is cheaper, screen looks good, weights less
I say buy whatever you find cheaper and more conserved, unless you want a brand new one.
turn off random filenames gaylord
I too have a perfectly good looking and working vita phat.
Atleast it lasted me more than my 3DS XL
Get an OLED
most games were made for that panel's color space and reproduction
Older OLED like the vita do have mura, witch is this black blobs in the panel that you can only notice it if the panel is displaying a full black image and at dark enviroments(as in, your room needs to be almost pitch black dark)
You will almost never see them with normal gaming unless you are found of playing your vita in bed in the dark and the games you play do have lots of full black or near full black screens
>tfw never hacked my vita
i heard they were releasing an exploit for the latest firmware
anything under 3.68 can be hacked
>most games were made for that panel's color space and reproduction
most games weren't, but if there's a game you feel certain is, there's a registry setting you can change on slims to blow out the colors to look like an OLED vita
They're both fine.
Same
Take 2 with random filenames off. Don't post images from phone often, so my bad.
Reporting
good job, your australia is cured
IIRC you can use the touch pad in the DS4 as a touchscreen replacement
did the hinge break?
I used to think that until I used a switch.
vita:
>music (custom if cfw)
>themes
>bubbles can be chaged out for system programs
>cute animations
>live wallpapers
>wallpaper per screen
switch
>a fucking grid
literally soul vs soulless
So I just hacked mine
Where do I get the games?
Just look around on torrent sites and shove their folder somewhere?
how is that case? does it creak?
Is it matte or glossy plastic for the colored "metal" part?
>music (custom if cfw)
waste of battery
>themes
can be changed on switch
>bubbles can be chaged out for system programs
dunno what you mean
>cute animations
meh, preference i guess
>live wallpapers
sure nice thing to have but again waste of battery charge imo
>wallpaper per screen
good
Get the newer model
>better to hold
>longer battery life
>no screen burn in
I had an original Vita and OLED screens go bad really fast compared others. They end up with really uneven darks after a while due to use. My screen was blotchy as fuck toward the end of when I had it.
Thats mura
NOT BURN IN
Mura COMES FROM THE FACTORY like that, its a characteristic of earlier OLED panels and not something they develop from use
So how have you guys been using your CFW'd Vitas? I've so far mainly just been exploring the Vita games I wouldn't normally play and using the GTA Stories native res mod in Adrenaline.
yeah, the cirlce pad too.
nps browser
Played a little bit of Uncharted. Streamed the Vita display to my PC monitor and used a ps4 controller to play it that way
Both.
>noise
For 4 dollars or so from aliexpress it's pretty good. Not 100% sure what you mean by creak, but I ran my hands over it squeezing it and I couldn't get it to make any serious noise.
>metal
I think it's actual metal, looking at the edges of the blue parts there are some microscopic silver slivers where the paint hasn't been fully applied, so by that I'd say it's actual metal.
Vita
Vita
Anyone know if there is a serial experiments lain or madoka magica theme for the vita? Custom/official? Been looking but I haven't found anything, thanks.
Been using it to read untranslated VNs (because shit like Chaos Head Noah is like over a hundred bucks on amazon + shipping, fuck that), it's pretty comfy.
Gimme UMPs wallpaper.
I personally would not recommend the slim because it has really cheaply made analog sticks, and the sticks will start drifting after around 2 weeks of use, only fix for it is to replace the sticks, or to blow really hardly into the gap between the stick and body
>tfw am in australia
Been 3 months since I came back from Japan but I already wanna go back
I have literally never heard of people complaining about this before, and I own both a 1000 and 2000.
Playing Vita and PSP games, overclocking and using a bug to be able to max out brightness in all games, playing undubs and uncensored games, playing 3.61+ games on 3.60 firmware, using save backups, taking screenshots without watermarks, using custom theme and using increased color saturation because Vita slim model.
Simple and accessible save backups is really underrated. The inbuilt save backup functionality on Vita is horrible in every way possible.
Lately I've just been playing Atelier Ayesha. I like it, but the small screen makes part of her hair look like one of her eyebrows and makes it look like she's doing this stupid face at me all the time.
I've seen dozens of people talk about it, look up ps vita stick drifting on google and lots of other people have had the same issue. its incredibly annoying
I own a slim and has no problems with the analog sticks. I call bullshit.
youtube.com
Crushing your colors to shit really isn't an improvement of any kind.
check the psp gba temp, CHN is getting translated and its gonna be released soon
I mean, it's not that all slim models are like that. I'm pretty sure it's up to the user.
Thanks
is that metal part glossy or matte though? I hate smudges and finger prints so much
Literally the first time I've ever heard about this. It's absolutely not something that will predictably start happening to analogue sticks after 2 weeks of use. It's an anomaly.
For long term, Slim is better than the Fat.
>Use the shell to make a file that has the name "IM THE SD.txt" on the SD2VITA stick.
wtf you're a genius
Matte, good luck seeing anything on it unless you put it right under a light.
The problem is that the PSP version is censored to some extent from what I understood from reading around the web. The original Noah was first released on the 360, but when they ported it to the PS3 and PSP one of the endings was deemed too violent and they toned down the violence to match the age rating Sony (or the publisher I dunno) wanted.
The Vita version, for some reason, on the other hand is based on the 360 version for some reason and has a higher age rating (and isn't censored) as a result. They did an absolutely ass job of porting it though, so the game actually lags sometimes when the sprites change, even from simple things like the characters changing expressions. You get used to the assness after a while, though.
nice I'll pick it up then
OH is the inside padded at all so it doesn't scratch the system?
Inside is just regular plastic, just cracked it open to see if I could see any scrathes but I can't. I guess you can try some super thin cloth and place it in the larger areas, but I'm not 100% sure if there's enough wiggle room for the cloth with the case on the vita..
I'll take any version of the game as long as it's in english at this point user.
Same with fucking robotics;notes. Spike niggersoft said that they (((plan))) on localizing more 5pb games but it's been a year since they said anything, and judging by the last couple releases of games with vita versions like zanki zero they don't plan on localizing vita games anymore, even though for them it would just be pasting the script in from PS4.
What's worse is that R;N doesn't have a PC release of any kind and the PS4 hacking scene is even more pathetic than the switches, so script porting to vita on newer games isn't gonna be a thing for a long time. Some literal monkey paw shit here fuck.
I can't read these long ass VNs on PC anymore and I live with actual people so I cant have my anime shit on a TV. Reading VNs on a PSP/vita is basically like reading a book and it's super comfy.
I'll probably just put a skin under. I have a case like that for my 3DS and it scratched it.
Playing Ace Combat 3 JP translated
its fucking amazing
nice
you get dual analog with r2/3 support on vita too
what game?
Just looked up the Vita library and holy shit it is a wasteland unless you love niche weebshit or vastly inferior ports of shit available elsewhere. Might as well just get a PSP if you want to play PSP/PS1 games...
oh make sure you play 2, X and X-2. play cross rumble if you have a 3DS too
Already played x and x2 on psp when they came out
Played 2 when I was a kid
If I ever get a 3ds I'll play Xrumble and the 2 remake too
Main reason I hacked my vita was to play this translation
Smaller screens do ps1 era games better than the huge ass tvs we have now and even though I still have my psp, it doesn't have a second analog or a way to map the R/L 2s that work with this game
also seen lots of other anons on here talk about it, issue that only happens with slim model
Just get a psp instead.
