Always get 2 nastronds in BfB. Have to delay the first LotD by 30s to do so (use gier before mirage), the rest should be intuitive from there and may differ based on skill speed. Doom Spike -> Sonic Thrust can salvage botd in some cases.

Use Regen to salvage some of the value of having to move or in cases where you have to use Tetra/Swiftcast without Aero II coming up anytime soon. Ideally, every Regen applied is one that's used during movement. Assize is powerful now, It's better to balance all aoe healing around it, if you don't have to heal immediately, just wait for assize.

DRK has at least one katana weapon model and a full samurai armor set if that's any consolation. It'll be edgier than SAM, but if you want to tank while looking like a samurai that'd be an option.

Truth, XII had an amazing setting with a very grounded world and a relatively solid cast of characters. Minus side is it's also FFXII. Maybe just watch the cutscenes on youtube, look at some concept art or some shit to get it out of your system.

Nice choice, PLD is great and every MT loves to see you backing them up. The leveling process can be a bit grindier than most jobs though so try not to burn yourself out.

Depends how much you value your time. It'll be roughly 80 hours (not an exaggeration) to get through all the shlock and hit Heavensward content which is about where it gets good. Minus side is you'll have none of the story context so a lot of shit won't really impact you the way it would had you experienced it normally.

The boost will cuck you out of some story fulfillment and 30 bucks for story up to HW/character, but it will save you literal weeks of casual quest hell.

Then you don't even get to use half your abilities because everything dies before you can.

Well that's without party buff, or Strength party bonus, ilvl 392 with a ilvl390 weapon.

Yes it is, but do NOT skip HW. Only buy the ARR skip if you want to. HW isn't full of filler as much as ARR was and it's a lot more relevant than most of ARR. Do remember to go to an inn and watch the tail end of the ARR story cutscenes though (pretty much everything from after Titan onward)

Job doesn't put out as much damage so fights take longer and an extra like 10 seconds doesn't sound like much until you multiply it by the 5k mobs you'll have killed by the end. Note that's only on a clean first character, if you already have dungeons up to 70 you can just smash your head on those and get to 70 in like a week.

I don't think you can direct hit crit more than that with foul without a party

Hey man, I main BLM too. We 100% do more damage than SAM overall, but a kaiten'd Midare will out damage Foul 1:1 almost every time. It's literally just the potency difference.

Foul is pretty lame when you consider that in the time you get a single 60k direct crit foul you also get a bunch of 40k crit fire 4s

I am both excited and worried about that to be honest.
On one hand, this could be a breath of fresh air and make some jobs a lot funnier to play (see DRK/MCH).
But on the other hand, we are speaking of the team who made 3.0 AST, 4.0 SCH, and nerfed NIN damage because of a rotation that they didn't think about when they made the changes

If you must gcd heal, use medica II for spread and cure III for stack, and cure ii for single target madness. combat is more complicated and encounters are designed so you can learn everything without 3rd party addons, but you don't have much customization for your class. however you can level every class on a single character to make up for the lack of specs.

black mage is most similar

Dragoon for melee, Summoner for ranged, Warrior for tanks, Astrologian for healers.
Out of those, Astrologian.

Veracity aside, I'm always torn on when devs remove shit like Protect. I mean, it's been ingrained into my membrane to cast it at the start of every instance, or after a raise where it matters. It's absolute jank, doesn't add anything interesting, and yet it'd be weird to see it go.

Same with WoW's 1h buffs like Power Word: Fortitude or whatever, just completely useless button on a hotbar, kind of, and yet there's something strangely appealing about those.

I really like Red Mage just for the weeb as fuck spender window.

A Realm Reborn is just the base game. Complete has every expansion, except maybe Shadowbringers, which comes out in July.

If you want more of a casual experience then you're better off going to US. I don't think I've seen a single FC recruitment in English since the split.

If you just join parties to raid, there's still plenty of English speakers with the usual one or two that exclusively seek Spanish/German/French speakers, it's just that the pool of people to play with is smaller.

I remember Yoshi saying they were debating whether to remove Protect at the start of Stormblood, and only decided to keep it because it's an iconic Final Fantasy spell. I'd be fine if they removed it but if they could make it more interesting it'd be better.

I think those "long buff" type spells are a holdover from old MMOs where they were more interesting due to the spells having more exclusivity (i.e. you wouldn't always have a druid in the party, so bringing one along for mark of the wild was a unique benefit when they were there) and because of the more open-world nature of the games, where running across another player in the world who could buff you or provide some kind of unique service was actually useful. In XIV where every healer can use Protect, and you always have a healer, and open world content doesn't really exist, it's pointless.

It was never really a huge issue, occassionally you run into some dumbfuck Baguette that can't or simply refuses to speak English but that's relatively rare and most of the time so hilarious it'S prime material to shoot the shit about with your friends. The Germans are on Light and the French on Chaos nowadays, so if you just desperately want to avoid one or the other you can take your pick.

I use a Naga for instants and have GCD skills on my keyboard. You won't get around using some sort of modifier though. Pretty much all classes have 30+ skills, I think PLD has like 45 binds they need.

There's only like one or two Lalafell players regularly in these threads though? There's a decent bunch of Lalafell around ingame, especially on the JP servers.

I'd say lv60 maybe. Most jobs don't really fall into place until 60, some even need all the way until 70 cap. Early gameplay is fucking boring and slow as shit no matter what class you play, thankfully it goes by pretty fast with all the adjusted exp rewards not really requiring you to run any dungeon more than once on your way to cap.

Level caps and new jobs are locked to their respective expansions. You have to proceed through main story quests to gain access to new jobs in the second expansion and Red Mage and Samurai are locked behind a level requirement along with just owning the third expansion.

Our small FC is usually lively but still you get some really weird dead air. I guess sometimes people just want to play and not talk, I generally try to friends and strangers alike but some days I just power down and silently play the game.

The way endgame is structured (endgame raids only allow 8 players, and are very difficult; you can only clear it once per week for loot, and you can't go back to lower floors- you're locked out until the weekly reset) corrals people into 8-man statics. It's the only way to make meaningful, consistent progress and effectively farm.

When it only takes one moron to make a fight unwinnable, and there are a lot of them, it cultivates an attitude of "fuck you, got mine" and makes people unwilling to socialise outside their friend group. FFXIV also doesn't support voice chat so those players look elsewhere to things like Discoid for coordinating raids, and Discoid has a chat function so why bother using in-game chat at that point? Just stay night and cozy in your little in-group and merely exchange pleasantries with strangers, because with the way Duty Finder is structured you'll never see them again.

He said that win trading is definitely something a few people do but it's generally looked down upon, he was really passionate about getting me into PvP and kept telling me that win trading is just a myth. PVP is just not fun. FL and RW are both poorly designed mess and Feast is impossible to queue into and inside, impossible to communicate because SE is too scared that somebody might get feefees hurt. The problem is, seemingly, that it drains interaction away from the game and shifts it into discorsd, resulting in cliques becoming even tighter. Joining a discord now beomes a prerequisite for "becoming good friends" with someone instead of just playing the game togetehr with them. While I am not entirely convinced that this is the case, there is at least some evidence that it did damage to the social component of the game.

Discord was present when ARR launched but it became much more popular and wildly used by FFXIV players over the years.

None of that stuff really had good text-based chatroom functions. They had them, but using them was often a pain in the ass and didn't really work as a substitute for in-game chats, so they were really only used when the voice chat features were needed. Discord basically unified all the necessary game-based communication features into one program that's really easy to set up and use and it pretty quickly became universal.

I don't really see the big deal about Discord. Using it is effortless and it has all the same functionality as in-game chats and more, except you have it open all the time instead of just when you're playing, so it's easier to stay in touch with people you play with. Most FCs that use them just have them publicly accessible so it's not like they're being kept as a secret club.

The only thing I don't like about it is that it's gotten so big that now people are starting to move useful resources onto discord servers instead of easily searchable webpages like wikis. If you have some question about XIV and you google it, you've got about a 50/50 chance of getting some outdated reddit thread with info from early Heavensward.

When I started they were 2k seals and I had to do a few FATEs for it.

Roulette (as a tank) will get you enough seals. Guess I just never had to think about grinding them since they're always in need.

The GC chocobo used to cost 2000 seals, which meant you would probably have to go out and do a little bit of hunting log or fate/leve grinding to get enough. Now it costs 200 seals and the game gives you 200 seals just for finishing the quest to join a GC.

It was designed as a marauder gear set and then was adapted into a Dragoon set when they introduced jobs.

It's easy to play, so that in addition to dualcast raises makes it great for progression. It has a low damage ceiling though so a lot of groups will want you to switch to BLM or SMN once they don't need the raises anymore.

literally what else does BLM do? You bring 3 things: Addle (useless for regular content), Mana shift (almost useless if your healers have at least 3 braincells) and a fuck ton of DPS.

RDM is a progression job.
The free resurrections give you a massive buffer for failure when learning mechanics.

Once you've got the mechanics downpat though and it becomes a matter of clearing DPS checks you sub RDM out for other jobs. They were common as dirt earlier into the expansion but their safety/comfort is no longer needed.

Play what you like though. The important thing is that you're having fun, no matter what Yea Forums tells you.

One aggro combo won't be enough to keep up with MNK because their threat reduction is bad or retard SAMs that don't use eyes if the fight is longer than a few minutes and the there are no shirks. If you play correctly as any other job you will not take hate. Tank DPS does matter and you probably suck ass.

RDM is a progression job in the sense that it took some progression for the community to realize they aren't even useful for progression thanks to SMN existing.

I just use RDM as my dps alt when I need to free up the healing slot. I just don't enjoy dps in FFXIV all that much, I really like BLM but I play dps so rarely that I keep forgetting the intricacies of BLM and I don't want to play it suboptimally. So, RDM it is. And I get to scrape up the healers occupying my slot off the floor, to establish superiority.
