Let us not forget ray tracing has been known - and used - since the 80's. The only reason there is hype now because Nvidia offloads it to some of the dark silicon on their RTX cards because they are giving us server scraps.

In theory you can brute force ray tracing to match what Nvidia is doing but to my knowledge nobody has tried to tune AMD's software support (radeon rays) for it on consumer level hardware. The crytek demo recently was running on a vega 56 and returned some impressive results.

PCSX2 STILL runs into glitches OFTEN. PCSX3 barely runs on the highest end systems available. Sony makes literal millions a year porting their 30 year old PSX titles to PS4. These are the reasons you won't see backwards compatibility for Gen 7 and prior.

The enormous compute horsep[ower of vega isn't really that beneficial - GCN has severe issues with being able to push pixels which is why AMD has to basically hotclock its architectures to compete for vidya. Nvidia's gaming focused architectures are heavily invested in pixel throughput rather than enormous shader arrays that get bottlenecked by ROPS and other front end elements.

Navi might very well be slower at data crunching than vega but it could (depending on how radical of a design it is) compete again bigger AMD chips simply because it is more tailored to this use case. I doubt you'll see any navi based cards make the instinct lineup for example.
