she could've been raped offscreen. Underage sexual experiences (especially nonconsensual) are a very taboo topic so it's unreasonable to expect the developers to shoot themselves in the foot by addressing it in any way. You just gotta fill in the blanks of what's happened to her yourself, you know.
That being said, it's also not unreasonable to expect a young girl not to be raped even in an apocalyptic scenario. Maybe Americans have some barely-suppressed kiddie diddling fantasies that are just waiting for a chance to come out, I wouldn't know, but most people likely wouldn't resort to rape, especially of children, even if they knew they'd not be punished for it. Yours is an overly cynical outlook, perhaps colored by personal sentiments regarding the issue if you ask me.
