I figure the main thing is they wouldn't want to stick them anywhere besides in a fighting game, but with most crossover fighting games there's so much demand for X character or Y character they're probably afraid to spend that dev time on what's essentially original characters.
MvC2 came out in a different time. Can you imagine the outrage if Amingo was introduced in MvC3?
