borderlands also has much better RPG aspects, each character having many traits to build with, whereas D2's character building is incredibly shallow and almost feels like a chore sometimes with how little there is to think about it

ultimately I think D2's downfall is the sheer lack of content, this isn't just some kind of meme there is actually a pathetic amount of actual maps in the game; the base game has... 3? 4 open world maps? with very little to do in them aside from collecting bear asses and do random open world events. The crux here is that there are a bunch of story instances; which are just hallways filled with enemies, and this content is recycled unto infinity in the hopes of keeping you occupied for long enough to buy 2 more monthly DLC packs before quitting because the same content but now enemy shields are 4x stronger isn't fuckmothering content

You're right, the gunplay is vastly better and the sci-fi aesthetic is pretty kino. My problem with Destiny is the price and the fact it's geared towards working in groups. I can play 100% of Borderlands solo, or with my gf.

Well, you pay for quality. The devs put fucking fingerprints on the glow where you would have to hold them to put them on, which people just realised like a month ago. The detail and responsivness in the game is bar none. Unironically loved D2 and thought it was easily one of the best RPG-Lite FPS I'd ever played until I hit endgame raids and was slowed to a crawl by terrible puzzle/platforming sections as part of the boss fights. But I did enjoy the regular 'story mode' leveling experience a lot. It makes going back to Borderlands incredibly difficult for me because if nothing else it does feel polished as fuck and the gunplay/class abilities are infinitely more engaging and responsive.

You get one ability that you tweak drastically as you go along. Your ability at level 10 is not the same as it is at level 50. It's something Bungie needs to learn from because how neutered abilities are in 2 drove so many people away that a lot of people hoped that Anthem would fill that void.

Been a player since D1 beta and raids are really the only redeemable content of Destiny. I had fun during Escalation Protocol before they nerfed it but other than that, the game is just lukewarm grinding with a forgettable story. Forges were okay but Gambit is as shit as Crucible, if not worse.

Borderlands is basically all the mundane grinding of Destiny except it's all through a cringeworthy story with worse gunplay and abilities. It's definitely more entertaining for casual play, but the endgame and multiplayer aspects doesn't hold a candle to Destiny. I suspect the new Borderlands won't change that.

Vor isn't in any way a "main antagonist", especially since his only role is freeing you in the game's initial cutscene and his own assassination mission, or a random invasion in the Void. Characters like Tyl Regor or Alad V are much more "main antagonists" than him.

I personally will be patient and see what people think before I get Borderlands 3. Destiny 2 is fun for me for the lore that has gotten better over the past year as well as the PVP. Problem with D2 right now is that there's not much focus on improving PVP sadly but since Bungie has broken off from Activision and the very reliable leaks regarding Destiny 3 actually being aimed at a hardcore audience with deeper RPG mechanics and PVEPVP elements, I still have some hopes for the future.

That said, I probably wouldn't recommend D2 to people that hasn't started playing, at least not without trying it from a friend's account or something.

When I first played Destiny I was shocked how mechanically simple it was compared to Borderlands (an old game even back then).
The elemental effects alone in Borderlands are so much more dynamic and change how you approach different enemies.
