I think the Direct has to happen after Persona 5 The Royal's proper reveal on the 24th. This has to do with the datamine that found that Joker appears to have a second possibly female form with a ponytail, who we likely saw a brief glimpse of in the teaser reveal of The Royal. If she is indeed an alt for Joker, it would make sense that we can't yet get Joker, and if we can't yet get Joker or see the full extent of him, then I'd have to imagine a Direct showcasing him and thus his release will have to occur on the 24th or later.
Would love it to be tomorrow or even this week, but I don't think that's what is going to happen.

Oh sure, he could definitely drop the day after the Persona reveal, but all the same, I can't fathom Nintendo doing a Direct right about now without having Joker to show off to his full extent. Maybe they could be sneaky and omit the fact that he has presumably 4 female alt costumes in the Direct, and let that be a surprise for the Persona reveal on the 24th, but I think Nintendo knows that fans would see only 4 costumes for Joker in the reveal and know that something is up.

I wouldn't even mind if they gave us another FE fighter, just so long as it's not another Sword fighter. The game is loaded with Spear and Axe fighters as well, if they're gonna give us another Fire Emblem fighter, then how about we get one of those then? We have plenty of sword fighters from the series and couple of magic fighters, but the spear and axe fighters of Fire Emblem which are a big part of those games have yet to have any fighter representation in Smash.

Nah, a Direct is coming before the end of the month, in addition to showcasing Joker, they're gonna wanna give us a rundown of what 3.0 has to bring for Ultimate, and how the stage builder will work which we know for a fact is coming thanks to Nintendo's own ad. Plus, Mario Maker 2 is only 2 months away, they probably want to showcase some more of that and give a proper release day beyond just June.

Mario maker can easily be thrown into may no problem (and combined with ac switch at the same time), and i can see them just throwing out a update video on the youtube channel for general 3.0.0 stuff, with joker's reveal/showcase/release being handled by atlus because they're control freaks
