generals in 2019 won't have the charm and jokes of the original, no modding and be infested with microtransactions
i say leave it alone
Is there rumors of a 2019 remake?
It was the last solid effort from the team before EA set their claws in.
everything that came after ws dumbed down significantly in order to be console friendly
>playing this over LAN at my neighbour, turtling until aurora bombers
>playing this on internet multiplayer with a guy I met online during RA 2, both enthusiastic about it for months before release
>being happy, having no idea that rts would go down soon after
no, there was a closed alpha 4/5 years ago and the game was cancelled shortly afterwards
I still can't believe this game was made in a post-9/11 world, and only two years after the event too, without attracting any meaningful controversy. I guess that shows the low profile of vidya gaemz at the time.
same as postal 2, different times
>China will grow larger!
Good times, Dragon Tanks were my jam
Nothing stops the mail
S-sorry user.. I know that feel.
It's buyable in China now too
It's funny because if the game tones down the terror attacks it basically has a China strong storyline lol
>It was the last solid effort from the team before EA set their claws in.
Bullshit.
RA2 and Generals were made by an EA-only team. The same team which made the godly BFME games right afterwards.
>The same team which made the godly BFME games right afterwards.
Holy shit, was it actually the same people? I lived on that shit in the mid-2000's.
Give or take the few who left to work on Starcraft 2 (like Dustin Browder), yeah. All four of those games were made by EALA.
soul vs soulless
SC2 was only souless because they fucked up not killing Kerrigan
Generals was great but engine was horseshit
If you think the engine was shit you most likely were playing on a PC that wasn't good enough.
Company of Heroes was ebic tho
rts evolved into two splits tower defense and moba, it would be impossible to pull aoe2 autists out so they started making dlc for it again
but why isnt EA doing that?
made the wojak a bit gloomier
You never went proper tank blob.
EA's problem isn't lack of interest in making more C&C games, but rather the lack of actual developers capable of delivering a real AAA RTS game.
That's why they're making the remakes with Petroglyph and Lemon Sky now. A remake doesn't have the same problem. The game is done, and any imbecile can make a modern-looking copy with some mediocre budget and no high expectations.
Microsoft had the same problem. Hence why they paid SEGA for Creative Assembly to make Halo Wars 2 and are now lending Relic to make them AoE4.
Whereas teh remasters and expasion packs are literally just officially endorsed community mods.
no
command and conquer 3 and its addon Kanes wrath werethe last great RTS
the games graphics have actually held up pretty damn well too
generals graphics not so much but still a great game
God I'm terrified that Relic is going to screw up AoE4.
That's not even Eugen's best game.
dont worry op this will save the RTS genre
should have a skirmish playable release this year
the guy making it it super committed
it was great
>Rise of the Reds is dead
>Mental Omega is dead
It hurts.
I'm expecting a really long development and a game which plays everything super-safe, just like the other project of this nature (Starcraft 2 was made by ex-C&C, AoE and even Relic devs). But not a dumpster fire.
>AoE4 by Relic
>two playable nations
>four €29,99 DLCs adding two more nations
>always online mode
>ingame store that sells generals and peasant skin packs
does it even matter when people will keep playing aoe2HD
13 000 players on steam right now
aoe3 has 2 000
>and only two years after the event too
It's because of it. Everyone was in full fuck muzzies mode back then.
RotR is dead? I thought it's still going strong on the forums and testing
Also, haven't the devs said that "it'll be done when it's done"?
>Everyone was in full fuck muzzies mode back then.
You're forgetting fuck Bush as well.
That's why USA is presented as it is in the game.
The great thing is it shits on all three sides equally. China is a human grinder full of propaganda and with no morals, but they get the job done.
GLA are crazed fanatics who by and large fight because of being fucked over by the big powers.
USA is all high tech, patriotic as fuck and gungho. But said patriotic gungho spirit is just a sign of their incompetence and they can't do anything save waste tons of money and fuck up in the end.
Same lead designer though, no idea why Blizzard would hire a guy known for gimmicks in RTS but demand a sterile esports rts, Based Dusty still snuck in destructible rocks.
That "it's done when it's done" line doesn't hold very well when you realize the last blog was posted in December 2016 and the last update in November 2015.
after buying so many goddamn companies and franchises they still dont have people who can make video games
AK_47s FOR EVERY ONE!
Carnius released Tiberium Essence 2.0 for TW like four months ago
That's like five years since the 1.6, while updates were really scarce as well
Just gotta be patient user
Mate, AAA RTS developers are non-existent today.
EA already tried with non-experienced people and the result were the two failed Generals projects (Generals 2, got canned, replaced/salvaged with Generals F2P, got canned too and studio disbanded with people redistributed across EA devs again).
does it even have to be triple ay level of game
CA makes shitty messes that people still buy and play
people play eugen systems games and they arent triple A either
All I want is a proper RTS game made in current year. I'm tired of the decade old games with aged graphics.
RTS games are the sort of genre where there isnt a lot you can do to drasticly improve over older titles
And its not like older games lose their playability as much as games from other genres might
Even stuff like Dune2 is still perfecty playable and enjoyable today
china have big pants
Idk when 40K Soulstorm released but I believe it was after this and that was the last true great RTS
why can't i get it to run on modern hardware? I can usually get most anything working.
Sure, there is some AA space in there.
However, if you make a C&C game, people will compare it to other C&C games (and Blizzard games,...) which were all AAA productions.
You'd be fucked before you even began.
And if you don't make that AA game a C&C game, people will complain and demand a C&C game instead. Viz. Eugen's situation where they literally remade their own game from the ground up because people were expecting Generals 2, not Act of War 2.
Is Dawn of War 2 any good? Is it even a proper RTS, from videos on YT it doesn't look like one. Maybe I'm watching the wrong videos.
i feel like I had trouble with it too but there was something basic you had to do to one of the files and then it worked fine on my machine.
It's really fun but it does forgo the whole building a base thing. It plays more like Company of Heroes. But the progression of the few characters you control in the game make it worth it.
Graphics, assets, ballistics, AI, there's plenty of stuff that could be improved. I think you're equating "improvement" with "entirely revamping the base features". This is exactly the kind of thinking that killed the total war series. Someone decided it wasn't good enough to just be able to build buildings in your cities, so now you have limited building slots and the retarded province system. Someone thought the strategy layer lacked depth/complexity, so instead of teaching the AI to build full stack armies (or even improving the battlr AI), theyd decided to introduce a whole bunch of gimmicks like stances or new agent skills. So we still don't have a decent siege AI, but we have RPG generals with magic spels that can solo entire armies.
>foreman told me i can build anywhere
>Can't build it where i wanted
>.>
What went wrong?
"Everything."
Was actually pretty good game user.
Letting women develop it.
It was a good game needing polish, but it was halfway to what both sides wanted.
People asked for a DoW2/1 hybrid and then realised it is not all sunshine and butterflies as they had imagined.
>2019
>I am forgotten
Is this the phase were we pretend DOW III wasnt utter shit already?
Kinda hard not to be given all development from patches to the Necron faction were terminated.
Did they officially announce they were dropping all development for it? As far as I can tell on steam there's 0 content for it.
Yes, they announced it officially.
techpowerup.com
That game was such a mess yet it was still so awesome. I really miss good RTS games but few companies are still willing to make games that can only be played on PC these days.
Damn. As a huge 40k fan it saddens me that the failure of DoW3 will likely mean never another 40k game being made anytime soon.
>worst C&C game (sans 4 ofc)
>last great RTS release
That's not RA3 in the pic
>Forgotten Empires LLC may be working on another AoE II remake like AoE I with updated graphics and fancy shit like zoom in/out
>The combined playerbase will probably be fragmented over three iterations
Kinda feels like they released it in such shit state on purpose so they had an excuse to do just that and move resources away.
There are billions of 40k games made every month.
Ironically, the fanbase seems to keep swalloving all of them like the cock-addicted bitches they are, because all of those are successful and spawn more garbage.
Autstic mind is one of endless wonders.
RA3 is generals with (an attempt at) RA's personality
what about the mobile game?
You mean like Inquisitor Martyr, and all that other bullshit? None of those capture the magnitude and scale that I think of when I think 40k.
Exactly. It fails at having an engaging personnality, where at least Generals had a distinct appeal in that department.
>mobile
>"""RTS"""
Into the trash it goes
Generals is great
if RA3 really was a reskinned generals then it might've been good
FUCKING DELET
generals unironically requires more micro than sc2, its sad as hell.
>Was this unironically the last great RTS release?
No, Supreme Commander was.
Huh?
Men of War was the last good FPS I played
I have Starcraft 2 and Red Alert 3 installed.
I wish they would release a Warhammer 40k-like game on the scale of Supreme Commander.
Or just a Supreme Commander-like game with many factions.
I had some hope for 8-bit armies because of the many factions it had, but it turned out the game was way too simplistic.
I miss SupCom....home..
>enter comfy CnC thread
>filled with great memories and overwhelmed with nostalgia
>remember what has been done to the series
>get a sick feeling in stomach
I have act of aggression installed even though I havent played it since 2015
I guess its easier to just buy more HDD space
How do we make the perfect RTS anons?
List your preferred:
Setting
Factions
Scale
etc
AK-47S FOR EVERYONE
Setting: Either modern combat or very far into future
Factions: USA(Pan-Anglo Alliance), African Coalition, Asia-Pac Alliance, Jews
Scale: Between RA2 and Supreme Commander
Setting: anything from vietnam to scifi. I do not want WW2 or the middle ages.
Factions: Futuristic factions based on the magic colors.
Black = robots and undead. White = humans, marines and power armored knights and angels. Blue = Atlantis and high tech units. Red = Mad max and underground. Green = Nature or space elves.
Scale: Supreme Commander scale.
Gameplay: Either supreme commander or Command and Conquer gameplay. With base building, resource gathering and maybe supply lines. No control point bullshit, because it forces you into lame stallmate conflicts and limits creativity. Call down abilities are fun. Individual units should have no more than 1 special ability, which you can just put under one button.
>Dr Thrax
>I'm GLA
>Individual units should have no more than 1 special ability
Did anyone like the way WC3 had multiple skills for some units?
The biggest cancer of old Blizzard games is that they give different units different hotkeys for each special ability. It makes no sense at all.
Wargame: RD was pretty damn good.
Not nearly as much SOUL tho
I spent hours just building my decks and staring at those tank models
I dont care if it doesnt have souls when it has all those goddamn tanks and vehicles.
soul: excons and rednecks in space
soulless: space marines with a southern drawl
>coastal cities full of islamic terrorists
Imajun mai shok
Setting: early 80s or 70s or modern setting
Factions: USA, Europe, Warsaw, Middle Eastern Alliance, China
Scale: Between Generals or COH?
I liked Company of Heroes 2 and Ardennes Assault a lot, but I admit that I only play RTS for the single-player campaigns. Why do people hate COH2?
Really enjoyed Starcraft 2 as well, though Red Alert 2 is my all-time favorite
They've gone from Alien, Starship Troopers and Terminator grim, yet sober aesthetics to flashy, techy anime shit to appeal to Koreans and Nips
>If I take your toxin supply, will you die?
Yes, as a fellow treadhead my soul belongs to the Omnissiah
>still absolutely 0 good games where you command a tank of your choice
war thunder had promise 5 years ago but the tanks in that became the worst part of the game
Steel Beasts
Let your autisim flow
Also Arma, but its a bit "gamey" for the tank side of things. But if you can find a good group crewing a tank with a full human crew is a BLAST.
>only focuses on two tanks
Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance was the last great RTS release. All the games after that went to a steep downhill
>How do we make the perfect RTS anons
Command and Conquer 4Re: Ascension
Halfway through the game, Kane finally returns to his homeland with his followers and you fuck shit up in other worlds fighting another alien faction
Act of Aggression is the epitome of soulless. I never realized how important themes/and ingame songs were until I played the game.
