First two had bad marketing and 3/4/5 were on the Triple while everyone had a Circle.

>Why isn't a game about Japanese culture, lifestyle and crime popular in America like it is in Japan?

Are you retarded?

I think that with yakuza zero, yakuza has gotten a lot of attention in the west and begun to gather a decent fanbase.

This
Why isnt gta that popular in japan?

>IT NOT ABOUT MUH CULTURE AND MUH COUNTRY
>ME CANT LIKE GAME NOT ABOUT ME CULTURE IT NO PATRIOTO EHEHEHEAHHEAHEA

fuck off retard

Long talky cut scenes with no Engrish dub.

I didn't say that you fucking negative-mass brained retard. A game that's demographic is mainly japanese people is of course going to be more popular in Japan than the US or UK. I fucking love the Yakuza series but you're a genuine dumb cunt if you can't see why it's not popular in the west. They are somewhat niche titles for westerners.

Aside from Judge Eyes the games have been dropping in sales hence why they started pandering to chinks and the west so much. Japs are tired of it, while the newer fans in China and west are eating it all up since it's new to them. Just look at how the threads here used to be, people saying how these games barely change and wishing they'd drop Kiryu once and for all since his story was done years ago while newer fans just want more Kiryu and Majima.

Attached: 1521899383438.png (1920x1080, 313K)

Everyone laugh at this fucking idiot

Outside of Yea Forums, since about the 360 gen western gamers are way more obsessed with western games. They want to play Witcher III and their 5th port of Skyrim again. Go to any other website where people from the west talk about games and they will mock you for saying REmake 2 could be GOTY when Cyberpunk is coming or some other WRPG first person trash. Some of us care, but we get called weebs or old fashioned/outdated gamers who just want rehashes.

I think that with the release of yakuza zero on steam, yakuza has gotten a lot of attention in the west and begun to gather a decent fanbase.

BECAUSE IF YOU'VE PLAYED ONE YAKUZA GAME YOU'VE PLAYED THEM ALL

Attached: boiling.jpg (720x949, 84K)

Say that to the normalfags who need to understand everything and be able to relate to it. Just look at how many of them get buttblasted when localized Jap games still include Japanese cultural references. Not to mention how so many of them hate when the game isn't dubbed since they're so allergic to subs.

cuz the gameplay is shit

Theres too much reading. If I wanted to read, I'd pick up a book.

Westerners have a lower tolerance for annual shameless rehashes than they used to.

They are movie games based on japanese actors.

Attached: Capture2.jpg (273x240, 11K)

VNs arent popular in the west in general. just tacking on a shallow fighting minigame to break up the cutscenes isnt enough to overcome that

There is a certain number of Amerifats that hate everything Japanese and will rather play another feminist nigger movie.

yikers!

>t. got his ass beat by Mr. Shakedown uncountable times

Sega didnt build up the base as they should have.

Good pic of you

the game is pretty easy actually, the problem is that you do the same shit over and over for 60 hours, even ubisoft games have less tedious gameplay

>there are people out there that call Yakuza and Sekiro "weeb" games

Attached: 1544027110021.jpg (431x473, 54K)

You could have had your point until you brought up RE, normalfags love that

>Try to introduce someone to it
>"I have to read?"

Attached: 1548757894467.png (350x429, 137K)

Because they're still rehashing a formula that wasn't even that good on PS2

I've spent 60 hours on mahjong alone but whatever you say.

They love it, but don't consider it GOTY

Because it's a weeb niche series. Nothing wrong with that but that's how it is. The stories are extremely long-winded and can be boring if you're not really invested. Gameplay is repetitive as fuck and very quickly you get upset at being interrupted by gangs picking fights with you non stop.

>Women getting hit in the face
>Children getting hit in the face
>Softcore porn arround every corner
>Hostesses and other "sexworker" jobs romanticized

The games really just aren't for modern American tastes and sensibilities.

because they've gated up the games on consoles for a long time
porting to pc comes too late because the initial hype for the game has ended, games would literally sell thrice their current sales numbers if the initial release happened on as many platforms as possible
because they've been available for so little audience for a long time, everyone else has already forgotten their existence, no amount of marketing will get people interested anymore
they've missed their train and now they suffer from their own idiocy

A real shame, because the games are tons of fun

Attached: 205712c0.jpg (384x390, 18K)

>porting to pc comes too late because the initial hype for the game has ended
This is a meme.
PC doesn't account for a large amount of sales for most games, let alone niche Japanese games.

In every thread about the release of Kiwami 2 on PC you have a bunch of people going "What? $30? Too expensive, i'll just pirate it.".
PCfags look for any excuse to pirate games.

>Atleast one comic relief tranny substory per game
Uh oh.

Attached: 1536579145853.jpg (997x560, 219K)

You are both wrong, the games so far did pretty well on steam and sega is happily porting one after another.

>the games so far did pretty well on steam
Did pretty well relative to what? Well relative to the PS4 release, or well relative to the amount of money needed to port it?

They may have dropped the one were a tranny wants to rape you in Kiwami but aside from that you still have Goromi and the trap and reversetrap, where the reverse trap is weak as fuck and you technically, beat up a girl and the trap is super strong and you beat up somebody looking like a cute girl.

The later, also at large Nips still have no idea about the PC market and are always acting possitively surprised when games sell on there.

It did well for a long-time console-only game getting ported to PC. Yakuza 0 did particularly well.

Attached: yakuza0_sales.png (482x383, 240K)

Is Ishin any good? Apparently the director and 2/3 of the VAs said it was their fave at Sega Fes. I hated Kenzan so I never played Ishin.

The most retarded argument being "a remake cannot be GOTY"

Attached: 27AC55F4-7F01-48FD-BA75-AEC20074CC0B.jpg (640x753, 477K)

I honestly don't think one in the style of the first one can, because it's literally the first game with updates textures, rooms and some features.
Whereas Remake 2 has to completely revamp the combat, couldn't make use of static CGs for backgrounds and reused 0 of the same puzzles

Because it's 98% based in Japanese culture, with the other 2% being the Michael Jackson mission

This is the saddest thing I've ever seen, especially because you'll never be able to grasp just how retarded you actually are.

Miracle Johnson*

Normies don't play nips games unless IGN or whatever tells them otherwise, They only eat shit tier western trash promoted by their favourite jewtubers and so on.

That quote is referring to the series of missions they cut from Yakuza 3 HD.

Wrong, everybody is playing Sekiro now because its popularity

I picked up Yakuza 0 cheap after seeing everyone gush about these games online for years now. I decided to give them a shot, but so far I'm not impressed. Early on, it puts you in a small room with a ton of guys to fight and you realize how clunky the combat is. I couldn't even pick up the table or anything because it's so slow and imprecise to pick things up, and I'm constantly getting hit from somewhere by all the guys. Explain to me the appeal of these games.

Git gud

>"What? $30? Too expensive, i'll just pirate it."
who are you quoting?
>PCfags look for any excuse to pirate games
Do people deliberately stay ignorant of the fact that pirating doesn't affect sales?

I struggled with that shit too, but replaying it on legend I breezed through it.
You don't have a grasp on the combat yet, just slog it out

And I hear from people again and again, that they aren't as much into the setting and just want western shit twisted by Japanese art direction again and again.

Gonna cite that EU study that states people only pirate free games and buy things when they're behind a pay wall?
Because the study reads like a retarded boomer with 0 knowledge on the subject wrote it.

How is the combat clunky?

You don't need to understand the intricies or be interested in Japanese culture to appreciate Sekiro. Samurais and Ninjas are normie as fuck so normies flock to it and because its a soulsborne game it gets even more attention for its difficulty. Yakuza culture is no where near as popular among normies as ninjas and samurais are thanks to Naruto and TMNT and other shit.

If by not liking the "small room" you mean the Dojima HQ fight, you have shit taste, because that entire segment plus the Kuze bossfight are one of the highlights of the game.

I would even go as far to say most people that aren't avid gamers or weebs in general don't even know what a Yakuza is.

>Because the study reads like a retarded boomer with 0 knowledge on the subject wrote it.
Welcome to the EU!

you fucking inbred nigger, go back to the fucking ghetto where you belong you fucking incest kid. Reading your comments makes me believe that some retarded kid stuck in a wheelchair has more braincells than you do you autistic faggot

You don't have to be a weeb to enjoy Yakuza games, they're action rpgs about the nip mafia.

I mean, I won on the first try. It wasn't that it was difficult, it's that I ended up using very repetitive techniques because the more interesting stuff was to slow to work.

How is it not? It's very stiff and slow to react. Meanwhile your enemies swarm you and attack very precisely. Yet you're standing right in front of a traffic cone pressing circle over and over and just grabbing at the air.

That's what I meant, yes. If that's the case and the game is all downhill from here, then I'll probably just drop the game and forget about this series.

Summer already?

I'm telling you again, you don't grasp the combat yet, I struggled on the hardest difficulty they let you start with and Kuze kicked my teeth in several times, but if you take the time to learn shit like that becomes a fucking breeze, don't rob yourself because you refuse to jump the hurdle man

I like it but I would say it's too grindy for western standards. And the substories get boring fast.

If you have trouble grabbing enemies try using lock-on, Kiryu will have no problem grabbing them, unless they dodge or you are too far away. Use Rush style to dodge away from large groups of enemies and make use of Brawl style's counter-attack abillity, you won't get knocked down that easily.

Sounds like you are just slow to react, like some retard that has to look at the controller to make sure he is using the right button.
Picking up the vase and furniture is the number one tactic to clear that room and aside from that one faggot the rest barely attacks you
What you have is good enough to barely get hit at all in that setpiece.
I'd rather say the combat gets better and better once you unlock more and more techniques and buffs for the styles.

>I like it but I would say it's too grindy for western standards.
>Speed through Kiwami, don't do Majima everywhere bullshit, don't know the best moves
>Had to just spam rush dodges and swap to brawler to use the pistol disarm move
>Repeat a thousand times while bullets and nades rain down on me
>They get back up

Attached: 1550210564938.gif (404x347, 1003K)

If that's the reason then Rockstar games would sell even worse.

Well yeah you can finish it fast if you do nothing but main quest and spam main moves but then you skip 80% of the game and it's no fun either.

It's grindy if you want to do more than that.

I find for example the five billionaires stuff boring and tedious as fuck after awhile.

I cried for makoto when she "met" him

makoto is a cute girl

Can anyone tell me the purpose of the Rush Circle attack? The tutorial mentioned using it on a blocking target, and it definitely breaks their guard, but the enemy just puts their guard back up, so the move seems pointless.

I'm guessing I'm missing something here

The Rush circle kick can staggers a normal enemy, which is good for getting out of situations where you are on the brink of getting surrounded.

>this many retards falling for bait
I wish you just stayed on Reddit.

i just got up to that part recently, could feel my eyes almost bursting out in tears but i held it back somehow, fucking hell it was a good scene.

>implying I even know what that is
I uninstalled Kiwami after the first mission where I got to experience how clunky and basic the combat was. Then I looked up on youtube if Kiwami 2 looked any different or smoother, and I legit saw what seemed like 3 hours long cutscenes. I want to play videogames, not watch a fucking movie.

Reminder that Kiwami 2 Steam entry was added only 2 weeks after Yakuza 0 PC release.

Attached: kiwami2.png (576x181, 10K)

The combat in Kiwami and 0 is great, you shitters are the same kind that would cry a river over Godhand.

>Ywn go to an event for yakuza only to a bunch of body builders taking their shirts off to flex and fistfight each other

Think about that next time when posting in a Yakuza thread.

Or little asian man just got intimidated by bog standart western european physique

Put in my pre-order as not long after I say the threads on Yea Forums.

Long-winded boring ass games with shallow gameplay.

I played the intro did some karaoke and ate ramen then it crashed. wont touch it again

0 never crashed once on me during almost 200 hours, what do some of you idiots do with your computers?

Are there any hidden fighting styles in Kiwami 1? I have no clue what those extra icons are in the upgrade menu

have different hardware. they have patched for the crashes so it not happening for you just means you're an outlier

It's because these games are great husbandobait and America is full of asexuals.

is it any good? Can I go Bowling with Kenjiro?

Because japs suck at storytelling, pacing and voice acting.

No daddy.
Now go play 5 cause that game is kino too.
Even though they ruined Akiyama

newfag in the series here, can someone please tell me why there seems to be so much hate for kiwami?

Attached: 1549501367003.png (600x753, 546K)

Majima Everywhere mechanic is annoying
Boss movesets just recycle 5/0 movesets, none of them are new
Game feels cheap and quickly put together in general

Other newfags that started with 0.

I think it's no master piece and it clearly had a lower budget but it's a fine game non the less and it was nice to see the beginnings.

>Bosses have a regen that can't be stopped
>The only way to counter it is with Kiwami Heat.
>Game teaches you that Kiwami Heat is basically using heat with the needed style
>Game never tells you you're supposed to buy it

A lot of people started the series with Zero and were disappointed going from that to Kiwami, since it's a fairly low budget remake of a PS2 game with a bunch of stuff recycled from Zero. It has plenty of flaws but it's not a bad game if you know not to expect too much from it.

Because you press one fucking button and it's boring cliche lame shit for weebs.

There are actual videogames developed with more than 10$ budget that are way more fun to play. I have no idea how there's more than 2 Yakuza games.

Attached: 1545169279240.jpg (1334x750, 83K)

>you have to pretty much max out majima everywhere to get the dragon of dojima style kiwami heat
>last boss goes into the heat regen several times and it's the dragon of dojima heat

>The atmosphere
>The substories
>The mini games
>The surprinsingly well written main stories
>The characters
It's not just the combat.

People on Yea Forums will call even Mega Man a 'weeb' game because of where it was made. It's not even a criticism at this point, just a "This was made in Japan, therefore I need to spin this into a negative" attempt to argue.

you can substitute it with weapon heat action, anyway that mechanic is bad

None of that matters if the game is a Genesis game in 2019.

Attached: giphy.gif (427x265, 505K)

Judge eyes has a series of sidequests where you go after perverts stalking a middle school girl, and every time you clear one of the quests the girl's brother tries to hook you (the player character is played by kimura takuya, age 46 btw) up with her and you do stuff like discuss her panties.

Wonder how that's going to turn out in the english version.

Didn't played it i'm waiting for the pc release

>if you dislike Kiwami it means you're a 0fag
When did this meme start?

All of that matters to make the game a non-Genesis game in 2019.

0 kept the quest where you shut down a school girl panty ring so I doubt it will be changed.

You've got it bro, I do wish I could look past the garbage and enjoy it. I envy you.

if you don't like it then why are you even on this thread?

Even the non-gameplay parts of the combat wouldn't feel as good on older hardware, you think heat moves would be anywhere near as arousing in 2d?

When Kiwami got released and faggots cried it's just like some DLC for 0 and why they have to fight all these people they never heard of.

>judge eyes
WAIT A DAMN MINUTE WHAT?
that thing already got released? I don't know how I didn't hear anything about that until now when I looked it up.

Because I clicked the thread. You're gonna have to not care about things like this.

You know that's not what I meant.

>cried it's just like some DLC for 0
Wouldn't that be a good thing though?
0 was fun so I thought getting more of it would actually be nice.

Its slowly becoming more popular though

Also adding to this, didn't Witcher 3 have similar shit? only that those were actual DLCs for the game itself, sure but they were full priced, like what, $30 maybe? yet people enjoyed those even though it was basically the same game but with extra story content

really? I feel that 0fags like me would be happy with majima everywhere, I definitely had an easier time with that because I wasn't trying to 100% completion list

game is more enjoyable when you're not a perfectionist full completion faggot

Majima everywhere is only an issue once you reach SSS and need a specific kind of encounter to get anything out of it. That and it feels like a pointless diversion once it's all done because you can just Tiger Drop him to death every time.

This, its fun and funny as fuck at first but if you go for completion you wish you could just turn that shit off.

To be honest a game about a guy who is litetally the embodiment of the perfect male human will appeal to many audiences that are in some way related to manliness such as
>/fit/
>gachi
>fighting game players
>people who mostly pick buff manly characters
At least in my experience

Attached: 1554384269768.png (900x649, 343K)

I think I'm shitting myself, among other stuff it has the cabaret club sim mini game with oversized punks as customers.

The Yakuza 4 install makes me so nostalgic.

Because they're soap opera VNs with garbage combat

Attached: tenor.gif (280x280, 675K)

Because moms in the west play candy crush, not console games.

No you don't you can use any heat action

No you can't, if they're healing you can only use the matching Kiwami heat action or an item heat action, I know because I fought Shimano before realizing you have to buy the Kiwami heat actions.

>tfw stuck with the dragon engine forever
At least we got 5, Ishin and 0 to go back to but it still hurts that they dumped the previous engine. Now we're stuck with this terrible engine which has yet to produce an actual fun game. I hope judgement changes my mind.

Attached: Ds4y274VAAAN0Qw.jpg (902x1200, 150K)

Early on, maybe. You can use shit like the sumo slap

Because it's just a very poorly designed game, clearly cobbled together quickly.
I don't know where this meme came from that it's zerofags hating on it, but that's just not true. If anything Zerofags give me shit for saying you should play the original game over it, and the problems Kiwami has are not at all present in the original. But since they've only played Kiwami they continue to say "it's better" because they can't believe a PS2 game would be better than its PS4 remake.

Japan says Judgement's pretty good even if they nerfed heat actions to make sure you know the new guy is not a Dragon.

I don't really care if critics liked it, they praised Kiwami 2 into the heavens too and that game sucked.

Should I wait for the 3/4/5 remasters?

Yes. Watch the cut substory from 3 on Youtube after if it bothers you.

I just started playing Kiwami and I noticed that the city is exactly the same as in 0, what's the deal with that?

Series is Japan's asscreed except with one studio instead of 10 so they reuse assets out the wazoo, every game is in Kabukicho.

No one's talking about critics, just regular people. They've been shitting on Yakuza for a while now saying the games are stale but praised Judge Eyes. It also sold way better than Yakuza has in the past few years.

Which Yakuza game do I start with?
PCMR.

I guess deciding to use a famous actor as your mc helps with sales, but it's good to know that the general consensus seems to be positive. I'll probably buy it on a sale.

I wonder if Japan burned out faster then the long time Western fanbase due to all the exclusive spin-offs they have.

1

0. Kiwami is functionally a 0 expansion pack and what plot additions it adds from the original game are paying off shit from 0.

Download a PS2 emulator and download a rom for 1, start there.

I'm not, but I finished 2 nearly six months ago. The increased framerate would be nice, the upscaled textures don't seem to be that big of an improvement from comparison videos. Plus, they haven't even acknowledged that they're releasing 3/4/5 HD in the West yet, although it is very likely that they will. I just don't see the point in waiting if you already have a PS3, the games are like $20 each and not even that old.

The same reason RDR2 and Call of Duty barely sells in Japan.
What appeals to Nips differs from what appeals to Americans which differs from what appeals to Europeans.

They got 16 games in 14 years and that doesn't include the 3-5 remasters and the 1-2HD collection on PS3 and WiiU. If you do then they've got 20 games. By the rate they're releasing the games here and porting them to PC I wouldn't be surprised if newer fans get burned out quite quickly as well. We got 3 Yakuza games last year, 4 if you count Y0 PC release.

Isn’t this that guy who made Resident Evil 7: Veggietales Edition ON STREAM?

It's got a couple problems, namely the grind for 100%, a majority of the substories are just friendship introductions, most of the boss fights are just Tennin Rishin with a move or two changed so they mostly feel the same, Wild Dance is unusable until you uncap the style, karaoke's timing is off from the other games (Button presses aren't in line with the brush like they are in the previous games), the story is rushed with characters that die almost as soon as they get introduced, and you can't create Clear Data from Premium Adventure making the entire mode a waste of time despite being the only way you can make screenshots.

Overall it's a very nice improvement over what Kenzan brought to the table with the exception of the story in my opinion. It made Hand-to-Hand actually a fun and usable style, 1kat is the best style for a decent amount of time, Pistol is the most overpowered style in the entire series by an enormous margin, Wild Dance is fun but underpowered for a good chunk of the game, William is best trainer, Katsura and Ryuji are great for the few scenes they're in, the areas are all really nice to run around in (Though Mukurogai isn't that great to run around in and Gion isn't Gion, it's the Suburbs from Kenzan), the final boss fight is really well segmented and fun, boss fights in general are fun when they're not just Tennin Rishin, and there's a decent variety of minigames that are new.

It's been out in Japan for months
frontlinejp.net/2018/12/20/review-judge-eyes-shinigami-no-yuigon/

but got recalled because the main villain's actor got arrested for drugs

Majima Everywhere destroys any sense of tension Majima brings to the story segments and makes times when he's supposed to be serious a joke. It's got fun encounters but when you think about the story it was a very poor choice outside of the funeral addition, that should have been in the original. You also can't disable it even if you have DoD maxed out and he very quickly stops being fun.
Dragon of Dojima is completely ruined. Double Finishers require Heat, Tiger Drop is nerfed due to the heat requirement meaning Sumo Slap spam, and you have to fight Majima so many times to make it usable.
Bosses don't have their original movesets anymore, Shimano had an entirely unique moveset and now is just Shakedown shouting HANASE, Arase is kind of the same but he's much slower and easier to hit, the brothers you fight in Debolah use Breaker and that fat guy from 3's moveset when in the original they double-teamed you way differently and you could actually hit the skinny guy more than once before he started spinning like an asshole, and Majima's Mad Dog is nothing like the original Mad Dog, he used to sway like an insane man and it was a pain in the ass to hit him while he went for stabs, but in Kiwami he's pretty slow and just flings himself around the map like if you were playing him in 0.
Many of the songs were changed to dubstep for some asinine reason.
They made enemies knock you down to the ground constantly, way more than ever before in the series. The only game that even comes close is Kenzan and even they don't stab you as often as you get knocked down here.
They didn't really do any new minigames, everything was either just a straight carry-over from 0 or from 5. The most effort they made was retooling catfight.
Kiwami health system means people might go a couple bosses without understand how to stop the health regen or might not even find the moves until a couple hours in, and the final bosses require Dragon's which takes hours of Majima fights to get.
