Nozomi is probably my least favorite of the cast because she tries to act motherly to the cast despite being one of the least mature+she has terrible fashion sense. Navarre gets better. All the male characters do. Females never get off Nanashi's dick.
Gaston was pretty useless in combat aside from the 2 Shesha fights but I ended up liking him the most story-wise. Him breaking Spear of Michael was such a good moment.

I personally don't think you have to play the neutral route specifically before playing 4A. All you have to know about it is that Flynn tells Walter and Johnathan to fuck off and goes around doing a bunch of sidequests to bring hope to the people of Tokyo. 4A starts pretty much right then, with you hearing about Flynn on TV and how he's doing just that. Just do either route you want and then you can play Apocalypse.

You can get any ending once and start playing SMT4A without being confused. You'll get to know the characters, who works for which side, and the plot thanks to SMT4 and that should be more than enough to start SMT4A. I completed the Law route and the Chaos route before starting SMT4A and I wasn't motivated enough to replay just for the Neutral route. The Whites route is just a glorified bad ending so don't pay attention to it unless you want to 100% complete SMT4

Combat consists of pressing auto to win in random encounters but otherwise they are rather good and worth playing. They have some of the best settings in the series and would easily be the best in the series with 4A combat.

I made Gaston my Goddess. He ended up beating YHVH solo, because I fucked up and all my demons died, and Nanashi only healed himself every turn.

I just watched it on YouTube, there wasn't as much content as I've heard, since I've completed all side quests anyway.

Nanashi and Asahi made a huge mistake and Nozomi's reaction is perfectly normal. And Nozomi expected Fujiwara and Skins to be pushovers and she was right.

I don't know if I'd say that, RH's cast is boring alright, but I don't think any of them are as unlikable as some of IV:A's cast, RH's cast also at least has some moments where they do something that's really out there and they can do so without compromising the story because of the time travel mechanics, like that ending where the manlet kills your whole party.

YHVH's universe is probably the best dungeon in that game, the rest of them have the most boring layouts they could come up with. Grus, The Sun and Tartarus are way worse.

I didn't mind Raidou's dungeons too much, the encounter rate got to be a bit much by the end, but the dungeons themselves were fine for what they are.

Basically every playable character in the series is a Messiah, which amounts to the Great Will observes the universe through them, which is why they're generally so powerful and able to influence the world so much.

They basically act as a godslayer by default, just that demons need one if they want a real change to happen for their ends. Revival's just one of Dagda's specific powers so he's just a good one for a godslayer to team up with and not meet an unfortunate end. Likewise, Lucifer slapped a magatama on Demifiend because even though he's a Messiah, he was either a pretty weak one or the Great Will never bothered to let him tap into the extra potential.

I've played DDS1/2, Nocturne, SMT4/A and am currently playing Overclocked and I'm just now starting to see the similarities between the games. It doesn't really have the SMT label anyway, it's just a spinoff. It's no more of an SMT game than DeSu, Persona, Raidou or any other spinoff, and none of those have the SMT label either, not outside of their Western releases anyway.

I wouldn't count on it. He's still the most recognizable God there is, so to just do away with him entirely doesn't seem like something they'd do lightly. Any other antagonists would seem weaker, or they would just have to be made up for the purposes of the game.

Usually boils down to either small-scale demon-specific issues where society carries on like the Devil Summoner and Persona games, or Law vs Chaos with humans caught in the middle for mainline and Raidou.

The whole multiverse stuff just sets the stage usually, and some of them are just branches off different timelines too.

I would say everything that happens in any game is canon because there's a multiverse at play. You can pretty easily just write it off as having happened in another universe.

You're pretty right on the money then. DDS and Nocturne are less similar because DDS happens in a universe where YHVH was never the top dog and law vs chaos isn't going on, but Schrodinger just happens to be someone with deeper knowledge sharing it with someone in the world.

And in Nocturne, law vs chaos isn't really happening either, it's just a free-for-all when humanity's not carrying on. Lucifer's the one with more knowledge trying to make a play for something bigger than just that world, even if it's just "I want a real strong general to fight for chaos sometime later"

Stephen shows up only in SMT1, 2, 4, and 4A. Otherwise if something happens it'll usually just be a demon trying to game the system by revealing more details than humans know, like Dagda or the Polytheistic Alliance knowing if they get Flynn/Nanashi, they can reset the universe how they want with the cosmic egg and not give a shit about law/chaos just trying to hijack the world as-is.

DDS isn't anything like Persona. It's structured differently, has a different combat system, a different progression system, a different setting and a different artstyle among other changes. All they've got in common is having Demons appear in some form and being melodramatic JRPGs.

Then recommend IV I don't see why you would recommend DDS when it doesn't reflect the true core of the franchise all that well.
I'd say even DeSu is a better starting point, despite being an SRPG, because the battles still have press turns lite, fusion, teambuilding and the usual Law/chaos/neutral thing.

I wouldn't describe DDS' combat as a casualized version of Nocturne's, it's just the same but you can do combo attacks and change forms, along with having some extra attack types. You approach it differently because you don't have as much freedom in creating your party, but it's still a distinct combat system from Persona's either way where none of what I've just said aside from having different attack types applies. You also don't have set weaknesses in DDS seeing as you can just spec into whatever element you want, so even if one character is inherently weak to fire you can quickly undo that. There isn't even dungeons to be themed in P3, there's just one dungeon and the dungeons in DDS and P4 aren't handled the same way at all, in DDS it's enemy bases, sites where you need to get Sera, or in DDS2 it's more of ruins of older buildings like the airport, where everyone of P4's dungeons aside from the last is based around the psyche of whoever's shadow is around. You fight God at the end of both, at least if we're calling DDS2 the end of DDS, but it's a Megami Tensei game, so that much is to be expected, it's rare that you don't fight a God at the end and even when you don't they frame it like you do, like at the end of Raidou 1. Even putting aside all of that, half of Persona is made up by its VN side which they're is no equivalent of in DDS. They're very different from one another.
