I like how this game has very sophisticated difficulty settings in the form of in-game items and mechanics. All of the most difficult stuff is optional.

Redpill me on mist raven, what do you use it for? Getting out of combos? Is there some way to get more damage from it than normally dodging and counter-attacking?

You can either run away and block for a few seconds, or do it during a moment in the fight where the enemy creates distance and you would normally chase and continue pressure.

Recovery was too slow so I never used it, or any art really. Too high risk and I was already fucking furious at the game for locking you into animations too often anyway.

Wrong about everything but the umbrella. And easy mode is simply the base game without giving up Kuro's Charm of taking Bell Demon. If you didn't beat the game with both of those modifiers, your opinion literally does not count for anything.

Ichimonji is better than spamming R1 and can be done off a jump.

Pretty much everything else is either just ranged options like Dragon Flash, or style points like High Monk.

I found mist raven useful for attacks that did chip damage even when you parried them, like big elemental attacks. Instead of running away or dodging I just mist raven behind them and start attacking. It's also useful for certain bosses attacks which put you in a stagger animation when they hit you even if you parry
Really it's extremely situational. Generally I found the umbrella a lot more useful and versatile

Ichi:Double is the only good one. After that it's Dragon Flash, Empowered Mortal, and Ashina Cross for block ignoring. Then it's High Monk for maximum style plus jump that does extra damage to sweeps.

Yeah. I'm sure a lot have highly specific uses, but they really can't do too much damage or else they'd replace regular slashes entirely. So they really have to give you something missing from your moveset and there's only so much missing. The big ones being a way to restore posture (ichimonji), a way to punish in a single big hit (ichimonji, mortal draw), or a better aerial option than your pathetic damage air R1s (high monk, air ichimonji).

Some give you something that just isn't useful due to the mechanics. For example, a long combo art is generally worthless because combos don't really exist, and landing the first hit doesn't force the enemy to eat the rest of the string.

Projected force does, but it doesn't imbue your sword, you smack the enemy with your shield, and it's one attack only

Brown ape is very low on posture and health so just focus on that. 3 firecrackers and some attacks and it should be broken.

On the one hand, I agree with the sentiment that it feels better to clear a game on its own terms, but I'm not going to pretend I didn't have a Game Genie for a few select cases. On an individual level, enjoyment is king.
On the other hand, there's something really fucking weaselly about acting like turning on cheats is some act of heroic defiance against anyone who would defer your gratification by even a little. There's plenty of games that bend over backwards to give the player the easiest possible ride, but that doesn't mean they all HAVE to.

The charge version is like 3rd for both damage and posture damage simultaneously, does a lot of chip even if blocked, and gives you a long range punish that you don't really have otherwise. Hits a wide area too, which is also something you don't really have otherwise.

It's good, but suffers from the problems that nearly all arts do. They're more about utility than raw output, and any that cost spirit emblems further complicates that because each use is now competing against your other main source of utility.

I hope you are aware that everybody who played the first episode but didn't buy the game is counted towards those 52%.

I never got Ichimonji, everyone says it's good but half the time I use it I get knocked out of the animation due to the long wind up. Nightjar Slash and Mortal Blade are better due to range and AoE respectively
