But Dio never would have risen to power without the Joestars.

His plan was twofold:
1. Erase the Joestars so Dio wins
2. Create a reality in which everyone already knows their fates. By doing so, people won't worry about the future and can face tomorrow with enthusiasm and vigor, regardless if they'll win a million dollars or be hit by a car and die. Not having to worry about the unknown is Dio's ideal of "heaven", and Pucci wanted to help make his late friend's dream a reality.

So in order to accomplish this he had to:
1. Kill the Joestars who opposed him, namely Jotaro and Jolyne. Anyone killed by Pucci before a universal reset is replaced by a substitute in the new universe, who bears a different soul. By killing Jotaro, Dio could thus defeat the substitute "Jotaro" and end the Joestar clan from opposing him. By killing Jolyne, Pucci would perform the universal reset in the first place.
2. Survive long enough to witness the new moon at Cape Canaveral and reset the universe.

When he killed almost all the heroes before the first reset, Emporio surviving into the new universe flubbed his plans, as there could not be any survivors that opposed him in order for Pucci to create his "heaven" universe, and he had to accelerate the universe again for a second reset. When Emporio used Weather Report to pin down and kill Pucci, Pucci begged him to stop until at least after the new moon at Cape Canaveral, or else his desired universe wouldn't be made. Emporio refused and killed the mad priest, which disrupted Pucci's control over his acceleration, and as a result in the second and final new universe Pucci was the sole one erased forever, with no substitute.

Joseph survived Part 3 and was still alive at the conclusion of Part 6. Even if he had been killed, DIO himself didn't survive Part 3 so he wouldn't have existed to kill anyone in the new universe anyway.

part 5 anime has been pretty shit desu. or rather, it's on the same level of garbage as 3 and 4. 1 and 2 were literally the only good ones.

Emporio tricked Pucci into attacking him with Whitesnake so that Weather's Stand Disc could be loaded into him. Even if Weather Report created ozone on its own, to say that it was a complete accident diminishes Emporio's contribution.

If they die during mih then their souls are basically controlled by pucci and their original selves get replaced by random dudes.
Pucci died during mih second reset, so he's replaced by fake pucci, so any event that happened because of old pucci actions are erased and this means jolyne doesn't goes to jail, weather doesn't gets fucked up, FF doesn't becomes a weird human abomination, etc, at least in this universe, but they still happened.

BASICALLY, none of them died, their souls are relocated back to the original bodies as pucci has no control over mih on second reset.
They just don't remember it because it technically didn't happen in this universe, it was 2 resets ago, however, they retained the character development because the "soul" remembers, the soul that's the same as before, but the mind doesn't.
The dio curse is finally broken as there's no one left to do his bidding, the joestars can finally live happy lives and jolyne in particular doesn't has to go through all that shit.
Ironically the happiest ending tied with part 4, maybe even happier.

The story of the joestar lineage in the first universe is over, stone ocean blowing pucci the fuck out meant dio curse is broken and they can live a happy life.

Araki wanted to end the series at part 6 but as he was ending it, he felt the need to go back to his roots, so he changed the ending to parallel the origins of the series in some ways and giving it FULL closure means he was able to drop that world, as that story is finished.

Gappy always had a serious tinge to him. You could see it when he got serious during the first Stand encounter in part 8. He was goofy at first because he basically had no idea who he was, and as the weight of his situation became more apparent to him, his tone adjusted accordingly. Even if you're a class clown, learning that you're two different people who both had the goal of saving the woman who is essentially your mother from a seemingly incurable disease would make you act a bit differently. And besides, Gappy still acts goofy from time to time, but it's mostly in his interactions with Yasuho.

Happens literally every time. Smash character reveals are insanely frontloaded, with the best reveals happening early on and the boring or outright crap reveals happening at the end.
That's why I don't have much hope for the DLC, after Joker there'll probably be one more really exciting addition (probably the second or third character revealed) and then the rest will suck. Just look at what happened with the last batch of DLC newcomers, starting with Ryu and Cloud and then ending on Bayonetta and fucking Corrin.
