I fucking hate video games
SRPG
crpg?
All 3, faggot
You've come to the right place.
I like all three!
what the fuck s crpg?
I have been playing video games since 1990 and I don't know what a CRPG is.
I have a feeling you might be a hipster trying to seem cool.
A crpg is Fallout 1 and 2, a wrpg is Fallout 3. Basically a crpg is isometric boomer shit.
>""""WRPG"""" Spongebob is waring the japanese sword as a shirt and uses Ryu's bandana
Nice try,dumb gaijin
whats the C?
C stands for Chad, a Chad Role Playing Game or CRPG
computer.
Computer Role Playing Game/Classic Role Playing game
I mean JRPGs are actually fun so...
Consoletard detected
CRPGs are WRPGs.
give me a CRPG to pirate, preferably one that doesn't feel too dated, I've basically only played Divinity OS and it was kinda fun.
>MMORPG
Pathfinder King Maker
Pillars Of Eternity
Torment Tides Of Numenera
C Stand for Cancer
CRPG but only by default.
Theoretically I'd prefer WRPG, conceptually it's more appealing to me but the only games I've played that actually manage to fulfill at least two of the triumvirate of deep combat, good exploration and compelling narrative are CRPGS.
Everything else only ever manages to do one of those well.
DND isn’t a video game, it’s a table top
>WRPG players
>running around with the Japanese flag on their chest
The shitty flame baiting player
Cute and funny
based
I'm all 3 because I don't limit myself to one subgenre like a fucking retard
All of them because while jrpgs can be patheticly written and archaic in their linearity at least compared to wrpgs they actually still come out.
Oh, and most nu-crpgs are dogshit
Well, my top three rpgs are Planescape, Morrowind and Dark Souls. That pretty much covers all of those.
Chinese RPGs, you know those cheap knock offs and gratuitously sexy mmos
CRPG is dead.
Now the C in CRPG stands for Console.
I don't have the patience for CRPGs. They have this kind of autism buffer that immediately makes me instinctively back off, not unlike a child touching a hot stove.
There's no jrpg in those games
>but dark souls is a jrpg
No its not, it's an action rpg made by Japanese devs. That doesn't make it a jrpg.
Underage brainlet zoomer spotted
CRPG all the way. to those saying it takes too long to learn, if you put in 100 hours into a CRPG to learn the mechanics youll have a fuckton more fun than spending 150 hours on random encounter grinding and shitty stories where no one actually acts like that in a JRPG
wrpg's are baby rpgs tho
All of them, but more JPRGs lately because I want to die and cute girls are the only thing that keeps me going.
*Ahem*
Almost
Cunny
a Copy of Planescape Torment Please!
t. Salty JRPGfag
>omg rpgs!!
It's a jrpg, it's mechanics are solely inspired by japanese games. Anyways, my 4th favorite would be Nier: Automata and that one is also japanese.
>it's mechanics are solely inspired by japanese games
Having stats you can level up doesn't make it a jrpg either. Try again
JRPG.
Name 1 good modern WRPG
Dark Souls is basically Hydlide but good.
Dragon Age Origins
Zero Dawn and God Of War
>10 years
rpgs are for nerds lol
The dilution of the word RPG triggers me greatly.
Just because you have different combat builds doesn't make your game a role playing one.
Just cope with the fact that you enjoyed a jrpg, don't lash out on me because it's making you so butthurt.
Hydlide is the of the first action rpgs
>moving goalposts
I play them all.
C > J > W
>10 years is modern
The only good crpgs are ones where your companions assign their own stats on level up, forcing me to choose how the other party members advance ruins my immersion.
Define modern then
Neither JRPG nor WRPG are genres, you fucking moron.
Past few years, 5 at most
You go on and continue pretending that like everyone else on the planet doesn't know the distinction.
ok, Divinity Original Sin 1 and 2
Fair
Witcher 3
One copy of Atelier Meruru ~The Apprentice of Arland~ DX, please.
This was fun. We had fun today.
>western
>ARPG Players
crpg...obviously..
More like
>Huntress MUL-T
>Engineer, Arti
>coMANdo MANcenery
>not liking all three
casuals and normies kys, an hero, just get the fuck out of Yea Forums
Chinese Role Playing Game
Outward
I can't, but I can't name a good modern JRPG either.
for me it’s WRPGs
currently playing VTMB, taking a shit as i post this but will get back to the game soon
Divinity Original Sin 2 was fun
Dark Souls, Bloodborne and Nier: Automata.
ELEX
meant for
Kenshi
DRPGs
JRPG mostly
>WRPG players
>a genre so dumbed down that even having a stat system is now considered too complicated
>All these brainlets compensatating their lack of intellect with muscles
>Pic related are Scholars and successful men of taste and culture prefer MMORPGs
that does the C stand for?
>unironically the worst RPG genre in existence
>taste
Shitty social sims are barely games and 100% of the time are just dumbed down to fit multiplayer in.
Chad
i was always curious why jrpgs are even labeled as such, since they are hardly rpgs for like 99% of them.
Are you being dense on purpose or does your autism not allow you to understand that the generally accepted definition of JRPG is not "RPG made in Japan"?
puzzleRPG
RPG is the most broadly defined genre in existence. What you mean is they aren't like tabltop RPGs, which is irrelevant.
cope and projecting
RPGs are poorly designed in the video game space.
Mostly because 99% of them are based on D&D or early cRPGs that were based on tabletop RPGs like D&D, such as fallout originally being designed around GURPS, but then as the industry grew, people forgot what makes RPGs good in the first place and now lable anything that has stat blocks and exp grinding as an RPG, not understanding that "RPG mechanics" are simply there to translate elements of roleplaying into an easy to simulate randomness.
NO RPG
Why do Zoomers watch trash like this? Back in my day we had space cowboys and giant mechs.
it's just a way of naming, people shouldn't take the literal definition too serious. JRPG refer to the original turn based type final fantasy-like games, because that's the only type of RPG games japanese made back then. Same rule apply to ARPG, it refer to diablo clones, not actual action oriented RPG like elder scrolls and such because those action games didn't exist back then.
Personally I think it's really dumb how the whole naming thing happened but it is how it is. Kinda like how the native Americans are called Indians
Pause screen RTS RPG's like Planescape and such are utter fucking trash.Whoever came up with this bullshit system should be flogged.
Spongebob has been on for like 20 years, bro. It first aired when I was 8.
>ELEX
>good
Game was terrible, gameplay was clunky, voice acting shit and quests were boring as fuck.
Only the universe setting was nice
Are you seriously implying jrpgs are more normalfag than wrpgs?
Be careful user, you insulting a German National Treasure
Nah it's just to deep for you, pleb.
>Are you being dense on purpose or does your autism not allow you to understand that the generally accepted definition of JRPG is not "RPG made in Japan"?
That's how jrpg fans use it though.
>WRPG player is wearing the japanese flag
What did he mean by this?
cawaii
WRPG: Weeaboo Role-Playing Game
I see you're afraid to mention the Chad Chadleyton DRPG player
this
just play what looks cool to you
I couldn't get into PIllars of Eternity, I wanted to but just couldn't enjoy it. I did like Pathfinder Kingmaker, though it had some flaws and I wish a campaign maker/mod tools would come out, but I doubt it
A more accurate comparison would be gen x vs millennial. Gen x had tough shows like saber rider while millennials had pussy shows like spongebob.
wasteland 2
SPQR
computer RPG. It makes little sense in context of picture, so I guess OP meant action RPG and thought it's called "combat RPG"
Do krps exist? All I ever see them make are mmos.
Wtf i love WRPGS now.
>A crpg is Fallout 1 and 2, a wrpg is Fallout 3. Basically a crpg is isometric boomer shit.
>What is Ultima Underworld
>What is Wizardry
>What is Might and Magic
Plenty of crpgs, perhaps even a majority, are actually first-person, you mong.
>It's a jrpg, it's mechanics are solely inspired by japanese games.
>you create your own character and assign their stats (something almost non-existent in jrpgs, where you typically play as a pre-defined character)
>uses a stamina system (a common feature in wrpgs since the 80's, even elder scrolls had it decades before dark souls, but far less common in jrpgs)
>uses a vancian system for spellcasting derived from western tabletop rpgs such as d&d
>uses a classless system (common in wrpgs like fallout and elder scrolls, but almost non-existent in jrpgs)
>story is primarily told through gameplay, like many other wrpgs and in sharp contrast to jrpgs which typically feature hours of non-interactive cutscenes)
>an emphasis on non-linear exploration (again, common in wrpgs, almost non-existent in jrpgs)
>enemies are pulled straight from western rpgs (e.g. mindflayers, mimics, myconids, etc.)
>armor changes your appearance (again, common in wrpgs, almost non-existent in jrpgs)
>you can kill npcs (again, common in wrpgs, non-existent in jrpgs)
>combat is suspiciously similar to a number of wrpgs like severance: blade of darkness
>many other gameplay mechanics and features it shares with wrpgs
Of course, the argument is stupid to begin with. 'Classic jrpgs' like FF, DQ and SMT are also wholly derivative of western RPGs. Pretty much every thing people associate with traditional jrpgs like FF, DQ and SMT was copied from western rpgs: the party-based combat system right down to specific spells and classes/jobs, the overworld, even the tradition of getting an airship, etc.
>a wrpg is Fallout 3.
lmao is this actually what kids think now
it makes sense, only strong-willed person can play CRPG
>Well, my top three rpgs are Planescape, Morrowind and Dark Souls. That pretty much covers all of those.
Both Planescape and Morrowind are crpgs.
What about the 'Action' genre?
fpbp
>Morrowind
>CRPG
What if I play all of those?
>Morrowind
>CRPG
How is it not? It was developed entirely as a computer RPG. When it was nearing the end of development, the Xbox was announced, so they released a port shortly after the PC release
By your logic, Planescape: Torment is a wrpg because it was recently ported to consoles.
Classic & Western. I've really never played a Japanese RPG that I felt was good. Something always seems off in them, whether it's the bland environments/lifeless worlds or what is more often the case, the terrible story. Weird, because I watch a shitton of anime and read a decent amount of manga.
Try nocturne
>equipment leveling system (unlike hand-crafted unique endgame loot in wrpgs)
>"go in random direction, find a boss, die, grind xp (souls), kills the boss, keep exploring" gameplay loop (typical for jrpgs)
>combat shares design philosophy with many japanese games from fightings to traditional jrpgs: trade moves with enemy while virtually being locked with them in some tight one-dimensional space (unlike western games that tend to put huge emphasis on spacial awareness, positioning and different range of various combat tools)
>no worldbuilding whatsoever, setting is just an abstract collage of themes and aesthetics that lead developer likes at a given moment, continuity between titles is discarded entirely (unlike in wrpgs that heavily value setting's logic and consistency both visually and in writing)
>serialized even heavier than Call of Duty after initial success (common for jrpgs: 89 Final Fantasy games, 16 Souls games)
>big anime tiddies (something almost non-existent in wrpgs, common feature of jrpgs)
>Try nocturne
>user says lifeless world is the thing he dislikes most about jrpgs
>recommend a jrpg that literally takes place in a world where all life is eradicated
Cummies. :3
Step aside you fucking plebs, this is a Gregor only thread now.
is this game can be categorized as a cRPG?
When I say "lifeless world" I don't mean like some sort of barren setting. It's just that all the JRPGs I play, the world feels so static and boring in a way. I really can't put my finger on what it is exactly, but a lot of JRPGs make me feel this way.
CRPGs are still WRPGs unless they're made by Japan. Based retard
I like games with smaller scale stories like ones about a personal conflict. SaGa Frontier was pretty good at this
CRPGS are WRPGS, they're made in the west.
rather be JRPG.
>well rounded as opposed to
>wimpy blockhead
>steroid blockhead
where does MUD fit into this?
>DnD
>5th fucking edition
what in the fuck? 5e is actual handholding, take off your diaper and play Pathfinder if you want to be taken seriously
MUD games are spongebobcaveman.jpg
kmmorpg
>JWRPG players
>HRPG
>successor of shadow tower and kings field
>soul edge combat with stats
>level design emphasizes semi open environments with backtracking and possible sequence breaking, similar to zelda and metroid games
It's one thing to say DaS is not JRPG but implying that it has western design is a stretch.
crpg is such a redditera term
Cuck
The master race of course.
ХAPPPPTЬФУ нa вpпг и жpпг мpaзeй.
Yep. Same thought.
Go play some zelda and god of war you fucking numale lol.
Is there an easier way to spot an S tard than seeing them use the Le autism excuse?
Based. Have the based mage.
>preferably one that doesn't feel too dated
It's more of a trpg anyway
*Ahem*
casual
All CRPG fans will do nothing but talk about lore like a pop culture lemming nerdgasming over GoT.
make sure all these no neckbeard having pussies no what you're talking about user.
the term wrpg was invented by Yea Forums. its not a genre
Didn't know china had RPGs
I think it makes little sense to call it a Computer Role Playing Game because they're all on a computer. It made sense in the early days of videogames because they took elements from tabletop RPGs and put them in computer games but nowadays calling them CRPG vs RPG makes no sense.
I like to think that the C stands for Classic instead, because it usually refers to games that follow the classic design that many early RPG video games had
All RPGs on computers are CRPGs. It literally means role playing game on a computer. Pro Tip: ARPGs and JRPGs are not RPGs.
Whoever made this does not truly love roguelikes but plays them to feel superior.
Fuck them.
The term "roguelite" was made by these guys who played their 200 IQ games like Nethack and were jealous that their precious genre was becoming popular, so they labelled anything that isn't basically modded rogue as a "roguelite" because they were so insecure.
I play stone soup and honestly think that anything that goes in the spirit of rogue (random generation and harsh death penalties) is a roguelike. Spelunky is as much of a roguelike as Nethack.
>it's not allowed to be called roguelike unless it's exactly like rogue
How about we come up with a new term for this type of game then, and please don't say roguelite
Computer rpg. So all of them except DND I guess
Nice bait
I fucking hate discussing genre definitions on Yea Forums
That's literally the definition of a roguelike, you retard.
Go back through the chart if you already forgot what your game is.
>plays DQ11 on pc
Yeah, it think crpg is rather nice.
>it's not allowed to be called roguelike unless it's exactly like rogue
Wrong it's not roguelike unless it's like Rogue. That's why it's called a Roguelike.
>How about we come up with a new term for this type of game then
This isn't a new type of game, they already have names and they're explained in the chart.
So you're a CRPG player.
There is nothing to discuss. CRPG is a sub-genre of strategy. If decision making isn't the chief form of gameplay then its not a CRPG. One is an action game, the other is such a terrible excuse for a game it had to invent its own genre because it couldn't handle being marketed alongside actual games. CRPGs are squad-based tactical games with an emphasis on player agency. That's it. Nothing complicated about it.
Roguelikeish.
>How about we come up with a new term for this type of game then
procedural generation is not a genre
> CRPG
Chinese RPG obviously you peasents.
Have sex.
>Spelunky is as much of a roguelike as Nethack.
>if there's an emphasis on perma death then it's a roguelike
Not exactly a fucking 200 IQ thought there pal, I guess we should just start calling Far Cry an RPG, I mean there's an emphasis on upgrading your character and weapons with the use of skills so why not? "Action game with lite RPG elements"? Stop being a neckbeard and learn to have fun!
>spelunky is a roguelike
>translation: spelunky is very similar to rogue in terms of gameplay and style
In what fucking sense?
If we all were to follow your definition, I have sex every day with my hand, alone. Checkmate.
I want you to look at these two games and fucking tell me where the similarities are, none that include procedural generation or perma death.
fun factrogue>spelunky
c-cun-cunn goddamn it i just can't say it
CU**NT
>>if there's an emphasis on perma death then it's a roguelike
As long as it has procedural generation an end goal of some sort, it unironically is.
>learn to have fun!
Do you seriously believe that keeping your blessed genre pure is fun?
Final fantasy, Infinity engine, same genre okay duudes.
Were they just pushing the limits to see what they could get away with?
This and the toenail ripping scene, only ones that made me lose my shit
It goes in the spirit of rogue with its procedural generation and permadeath. It's just ROGUELIKE MASTERRACEers like you who call them roguelites to belittle them for not being identical to a going-on-forty year game.
>As long as it has procedural generation an end goal of some sort, it unironically is.
Refer to the chart, you clearly were not paying attention.
>Do you seriously believe that keeping your blessed genre pure is fun?
No, it's actually not fun to hear some faggot act like they know what they're talking about and yet they've probably never even played Rogue, otherwise they wouldn't be shilling these baseless and uneducated double digit IQ opinions. Fucking kill youself.
Gone Home goes in the spirit of Doom with it's first person view, guess it's a doomlike now. Do you see how your argument crumbles to the fucking ground as soon as I apply this type of retarded ass backwards thinking to literally any other genre?
>Go back through the chart if you already forgot what your game is.
The major problem with many CRPGs is that they try to use too many mechanics and as a result they suffer lack of polish and balancing problems. For example in older Fallout games It's so easy to break the combat and go into places where It's obviously not meant for that stage of the game and as a result the pacing becomes shit. In Elder Scroll games combat sucks and everything else maybe except the lore is mediocre because the game is bloated with worthless mechanics and content. CRPGs with focus are much better experiences, for example Wasteland 2 with tactical gameplay or Geneforge with summoning.
tfw jdrpg/srpg chad
>the pacing becomes shit
Fallout 1 is four hours long.
Honestly how the fuck do people ITT not know what CRPGs are?
First person view is not a game mechanic. Try harder.
I've played the holy trilogy (Nethack, Angband and Crawl) so I know exactly what I'm talking about.
>refer to the chart
Imagine gatekeeping this hard
>458499278
Japan has never made a good strategy game. They never had the stomach for war. Their shogun literally just rolled over and died the first time America visited. Pretty sure everyone with any strategic ability whatsoever committed sudoku after WW2.
>consoletard
>First person view is not a game mechanic.
Yes it is.
Why isn't Far Cry 3 an RPG?
>Go back through the chart if you already forgot what your game is.
>its RPG
>I'm role playing as Jason Brody
So like betrayal at condor and diablo?
I don't think you understand what the "C" distinction is supposed to mean. CRPGs started out as essentially video game adaptions of tabletop RPGs and they tend to closely follow similar design philosophies. It has nothing to do with the device you're actually playing them on.
A game mechanic is something that directly affects what happens in a game. If a generic game where you shoot zombies just happens to be first person rather than third person then you can't call it a game mechanic.
I haven't played it and I don't want to look like an idiot so I'm afraid I have no comment.
Cuck Role Playing Games
Reverse the chart and now it's accurate
>not playing all of them
Then again, this is Yea Forums, go kill yourselves for being binary(in this case, tertiary) autists.
and yet, most of them developed exclusively for PC in mind.
CRPG fan here, I couldn't get further than 40 pages into the books, or half an episode into the show. Shit sucks. Wheel of Time, Redwall, Dragonriders, Black on Black, Xanth, so many books and series of so many different genres deserve the recognition that garbage gets. Fucking normies.
Mario doesn't fall into a separate subgenre of platformers just because it's exclusively for Nintendo consoles either.
JRPGs tend to branch off into two category s. Either light RPG or strategic RPG. SRPG games the japs have on lockdown. With light RPGs the stories and characters, presentation, music and gameplay tend to be better but with western RPGs they tend to have better roleplay mechanics and lore.
>SRPG games the japs have on lockdown
They've yet to make a single good one. What has Japan made that compares to gold box, arkania, JA2, xcom, etc.?
Yes I can, first and third person views completely change how a game is played, play Uncharted then Dying Light and get back to me fuckface.
>I don't want to look like an idiot so I'm afraid I have no comment.
Don't be afraid because you look fucking stupid right now. Far Cry 3 borrows a few skill based game mechanics from traditional RPGs as an easy way to implement meaningful progression in an open world shooter. However no one who isn't missing half a chunk of brain would ever call it an RPG. Much like how no one who isn't missing half a chunk of brain would ever call Spelunky a roguelike, as it merely borrows a few key mechanics from Rogue, but not nearly enough for it to be called an out an out Roguelike especially when you consider all the mechanics present in the game that aren't from Rogue. Even if you've played rogue, which I highly doubt considering you think there's a fucking truckload of games that play just like it, you seem to have forgotten how bare bones it is with it's presentation, level design, and core mechanics. It's an RPG that randomly generates dungeons for you to crawl in, with ASCII graphics, perma death, and turned based combat. Turn based combat is an essential core mechanic in Rogue and every actual Roguelike, because of it's tabletop RPG roots. I'll narrow this down further, if you're really on the fence about whether it's a roguelike ask yourself one final question after exhausting all others: Would this game work in a PnP environment? Spoiler alert: Spelunky doesn't, it's a fucking platformer. Educate yourself you braindead schmuck.
Because literary there's no difference between platformer games on PC, Nintendo, Xbox, and PlayStation, its either 3d or 2d.
battle chasers, because I know thats going to make you squirm
The control schemes are inherently different so there inherently is. You're making no sense.
>Diablo isn't Hack and Slash
ARPG is a stupid term
spongebob was actually good though
>Diablo is on the list
Who the fuck thinks diablo is a roguelike?
underrail
I guess you just converted me. I don't know why but I just act like an autist on some subjects and that was one of them. You really helped me out today.
Read it, Diablo is under ARPG, marked as not roguelike
It means "Computer RPG". It was a marketing term used for early computer based RPGs back when that was a new thing and you actually had to make it clear that your game WASN'T a tabletop RPG or other physical game but was a digital video game.
Nowadays it's just used by hipsters to draw an imaginary and completely arbitrary line between "RPGs that I like" and "RPGs that I do not like".
In short OP is a faggot.
I know, but I mean like who would even make that type of claim so many time for it to be put on that chart for clarification in the first place? Like every game there is a game that's either actually a roguelike or ones that get often mistaken for one? Who thinks Diablo is a rogue like?
>wrpg literally wearing the japanese flag
You had one job, faggot
>play hc
>you go dungeoncrawling until you die, when you have to start over
RPGs aren't good games.
