I'm not sure if this is a meme, but when I first started playing on the PC I had a lot of trouble with games performing poorly and whatnot. Once you learn what settings to enable and disable the experience becomes a lot better in my opinion. I think there's a bit of a learning curve but it's worth.

I know you guys enjoy knocking gaming laptops, because they're overpriced or whatever. The mid-range ones play games at a pretty an acceptable 60 frames or better at 1080p. More even if a conceivable external GPU isn't getting bottle-necked by the CPU. You can switch over to on-board independent GPU when you have to travel and still have the majority of the performance.

Then go and get a decent HDMI television with the desired specs and you are set. With that and some wireless peripherals you've got the best of everything. When it comes to minimizing consumed space, it can't be beat.

PC gaming is the best, but unfortunately all the best games are from 2005 and earlier so there's really no point in wasting money on an expensive computer or installing winblows.

Gaming laptops have definitely come a long way in the last few years, largely thanks to everyone focusing on low-voltage components. They're definitely more of a respectable option than they were 5 years ago. The only real downsides that still remain are
>Garish "gamer" branding
>Harder to replace/repair parts (if a hinge breaks or a pixel dies, you're fucked without warranty)
>Usually impossible to upgrade
But most of these problems can be avoided by choosing intelligently and, as you said, buying in the mid-range so that you're not too deeply invested.
However, if you're going all-out high-end and spending $4000 on a 2080 Ti laptop, you're just retarded.

A lot of games, even from that time-period are played better now on modern PCs. Where modern PCs sometimes lag behind is when a game requires the utilization of a single core of a processor. Emulators have serious trouble with this sometimes. Since they're designed to run on a single core. I laughed like hell when I dug up a pentium 4 sony VAIO that emulated super nintendo games way better than my 2019 laptop. It's because it focused on a single core. The laptop might have more raw power by a long shot, but not when the game is looking for just one cylinder.

I thought about getting one since looking at graphics cards for high end alone comes to being almost a grand. I can just get a laptop for that price since it isnt too far off and I don't really care for 4k. What laptop you end up getting?

Replacing a laptop panel is easy.

Just an Acer Nitro 5. It can max out Witcher 3 with few issues. I have a desktop as well but, I was surprised by this thing. My hands are pretty large and I'm pretty tall, so I don't like the little dainty notebooks.

The cooling system on it is pretty bad because the GPU and CPU cooling systems run together but, it's not a problem at home since I run an external GPU and TV there. I rarely have to use the desktop and that's only for very intensive stuff.

The power supply only just gave out in the last four months at 500w. Just couldn't keep it up any more. The GPU was borderline fused from use, the CPU was on it's last legs, half ot the cooling hardware had been replaced several times.

It was a wide case and the motherboard had good ports. The integrated graphics weren't going to be used, and weren't very obtrusive. The processor was very powerful for the time, and could withstand heat from overclocking with a good cooling solution. There was a short time in the mid-2000's where prebuilt PC's actually had very good components and builds, but zero components that were specifically for gaming.

Lot of people, they don't remember that time.
