They must be desperate to get rid of these things. I was just at Wal-mart and they were being sold for $39.99. Was tempted but the games they have installed are mostly shit!!!FACT!!!

I thought about buying one in order to hack and play isos off of. But then i remembered i already just have all that shit on my pc already
>NTSC models are loaded with PAL region files
Yeah, I was thinking about getting one too, but only for modding/hacking. How well does it run the games when compared to a Raspberry Pi or PSP?
I have 6 other ways to play PS1 games. I don't want another mediocre way to play them.
if they drop it 20 more bucks i might get one
I don't know all that much about the PS1. how many must play games on the console absolutely need the analog sticks?
>not just using a hacked vita
You are literally better off buying a PS3 and just buying (scraped up) PS1 games off GameStop.
California destroyed Playstation
- Death of good franchises (Omega Boost, Ape Escape, etc)
- Billions spent on cinematic trash
- Censoring
- No PS2/PSP classics on PSN
- No marketing for the Vita in USA
Can someone explain why you would buy this?
Sony PS1 Classic:
>Costs a fuck ton of money
>Uses an open-source emulator running at 720p with the ability to only use a single savestate for each game along with controllers lacking dualshock, which isn't representative of Playstation hardware at all
>Running a third party emulator (PCSX ReARMed) that anyone can download for free
>Only comes with 20 games that anyone can get for free
>Cannot be customized
Free emulation:
>Free
>Can run any emulator you want, including the emulator inside of the PS1 Classic
>Have access to the entire PS1 library of games
>Customizeable as fuck
Again, the PS1 classic is not original hardware, it's an EMULATOR running isos that were downloaded from the INTERNET. Something you can do for free yourself:
Emulator that Sony downloaded and put in their shitty PS1 classic
>docs.libretro.com
Entire library of PS1 games

DO NOT BUY THIS GARBAGE.
>40bucks
>lots of money
I have one. It's actually a really good deal. It runs retroarch and is more powerful than a pi.
It's worth $40 for the controllers alone and you get a free emulator box. If anyone is interested I totally recommend. I love mine.
Dude you are being such a melodramatic faggot it's $40 and comes with two controllers. It's not the greatest way to play PS1 games but holy shit dude calm your ass down.
it's fucking shit
they pulled a freeware emulator off the internet and didn't even change the gui. half of the "good games" (wipeout, sotn) aren't present. I'll pick one up when its 20 bux just for laugh factor.
Is it hard to mod?
Suck a royal fuckup, I don’t even want one for $5
No not at all. You just copy a couple folders and your ROMs over to a USB stick and plug it in. You can even set it to boot directly into retroarch and everything works flawlessly.
PSX emulation is pretty good but N64 struggles on most games. All systems before that work perfectly and I have everything set up nicely with cover art and screenshots.
Also don't listen to that dumb faggot saying you can't load the PSX games you want on it. You can just load any iso you want with pcsx-rearmed and most things run fine. You can even get rid of the shit you don't want on the internal memory and put whatever games you want on there and load them through the PS Classic UI if that's what you want to do.
Is this thing any better at emulating the PSX than a Pi would be?
Does the controller work with the PS4?
You'd be better off using a modded PSP.
A little bit yeah but it wouldn't be worth it unless you want the controller.
Don't know but it works perfect as a dinput gamepad on windows.
what did california have to do with this thing? japan came up with this shite.
I don't need it for windows though, I need it for PS4.
I think it needs more homebrew work on it.
PSP/Vita/VitaTV are much much better for PSX isos. Raspi 3 is better for everything else currently.
I think it's not a bad buy for $30 considering you get 2 nifty USB controllers
Only casuals and braindead normalfags think the games on the PS Classic are bad. It's shit for many reasons but the library is not one.
>inb4 some smart ass faggot that never played Intelligent Qube sarcastically says that it was a great addition
PS1 games aged like milk.
Just tried it and it does not work. You would need an adapter.
>costs a fuckton of money
Other than the other points are fine. But I know this is an autists that won't reply or read this so whatever.
brainlet
Was thinking of getting one too since it’s super cheap now. I saw a video of a hacked PSclassic playing Spyro and there were emulation problems
I'm enjoying my $40 2 original PlayStation controllers and replica PlayStation figurine.
why don't they just put the games on the PSN store?
Fuck you Sony, I'm not keeping a separate console around just to play MGS1.
There are some great games on it, and certainly enough to warrant a $30 price tag. The real problem with the PS Classic is that the emulation is garbage and everything else feels cheap and lazy
Is this worth getting for the 2 controllers? I want some 1st party playstation controllers for my PC.
>how many must play games on the console absolutely need the analog sticks?
Ape Escape, that's it
Nothing else requires it or plays better with it since the dual shock was non standard at the time, how come you retards keep fixating on the sticks, are you all really so young you never played a psx
They're not even Dual Shocks. What are you going to do with an original PS1 pad with no analog sticks?
Was this Sony's lowest moment?
>Try to ride off Nintendo's popularity with a classic console
>While Nintendo makes they're own emulators Sony just grabs an online one
>Literally no thought on the games, NTSC console has PAL roms on it. Some intern probably just googled "x game download"
>While Nintendo puts on some fan favorites Sony just puts a bunch of random crap on there
>Not even analogue
>Can't even emulate other PSX games well when hacked
>he doesn't realize he can hack it and load up all PS1 games onto it
I agree but let's be honest user, Toshinden aged like crap
Just get a DS4 or a Switch Pro controller for a decent gaming controller
>the emulation is garbage
So don't use the built in emulator, this thing is easy as fuck to mod
>>he doesn't realize he can hack it and load up all PS1 games onto it
It's not like they run well at all
It's not worth any money unless you want it for the controllers.
Wait is the controller even USB or does it have a proprietary plug?
same except i remembered i bought a pstv when they were dirt cheap for p4g and muramasa. i put adrenaline on it, now i’m playing through my psx backlog on my tv with a dualshock 3. vagrant story is pretty cool so far
I had an N64 as a kid. I legit just don't know all that much about the og playstation because I never grew up with it.
>Try to ride off Nintendo's popularity with a classic console
I'm a full Sonybro, but at this point, Sony attempting to copy Nintendo is nothing to be surprised about. They have been doing it since the PS1 with varying degrees of success. Sometimes it works for them, sometimes it doesn't.
Considering how half-assed the PS Classic seemed, I don't think even Sony expected it to be a hit. They clearly didn't put that much effort into it, and I doubt that they expected it to sell well. As such, Sony has had much bigger blunders than this side project.
It's funny how it being easy to mod and a price drop sent it from useless to actually decent for a living room emulation box
>he also doesn't realize they actually run fine and that Sony fucked up by putting PAL ROMs in that you can just replace with proper NTSC ones through hacking
They're usb
>They're not even Dual Shocks. What are you going to do with an original PS1 pad with no analog sticks?
Use them to play games. The dpads were amazing on the originals, I assume these are the same.
Exactly how powerful? These things finally cost what they should and I'd love to get another emulation box just because. I have the SNES Kimi and it runs SOTC just fine.
Think of it like the rumble pak, only the one game required it and most games barely used the additional functionality, aside from Ape Escape all I can think of is Psycho Mantis making the controller shake in a cutscene
Censoring and psclassic are all californias fault. The other stuff predates the move.
Not much more powerful. You're probably better off with a pi unless you want the controllers.
Yes, because when I think of "Playstation Classics" I think of such memorable games as Destruction Derby and Cool Boarders 2.
Don't kid yourself into thinking the choices of games isn't one of the main reasons the PS Classic shot itself in the foot. Just look at the choices they did make
>Zero representation of the main Playstation mascots (Crash and Spyro)
>Barely any of SCE's memorable games either like Parappa/Lammy or Medievil
>Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo instead of literally any other Capcom fighter that came out on the system like Alpha 3
>The first Rainbow Six as a reminder why the Playstation needed analog sticks really badly
>Speaking of no Analog sticks, no Ape Escape either.
>Only FF7 when the SNES classic managed to get both FF6 and Secret of Mana, so no Chrono Cross/FFT/Vagrant Story
>Wild Arms instead of Wild Arms 2 (Although I'm biased on this one since WA2 is one of my favorite RPGs)
The only games that are really worth playing on the PS1 classic as it is are FF7, MGS1, Wild Arms, Abe's Oddysee, Ridge Racer Type 4 and RE: Director's Cut. I can't even say Tekken 3 since it's the PAL version.
>Was this Sony's lowest moment?
No. The PS3 was.
Can you add games to the internal memory like the nintendos? Or can you only use it on usb?
I wanna replace the games with the 10 or so i actually like on ps1
snes classic still runs them better, somehow
I have a feeling that this is one of those things that starts off really unpopular but will suddenly go up in price steadily in the future since nobody wanted them, kinda like the vita TV. But then again the VTV is useful
$39.99
That's extremely overpriced considering this tech is 2 decades old. I bet it cost them like $6 to produce
