Actually you are roleplaying a prisoner that is forced to act as an agent for the blades, you are given the choice to subvert their plans and betray them to ascend to your place as a demi-god lord of Vvardenfell.
However, I do agree that Morrowind is an insanely overrated game, not even close to the best Elder Scrolls and also really only good for fucking around with stat manipulation and glitches.

Best gameplay to this day. >soul trapping walls >astronomical stat boosting >warp/recall >levitate >bunnyhop spell >throwable weapons like darts and shuriken >spears and other two handed weapons that are not just a great axe or a warhammer >Pauldrons, Grieves, Bracers, and other armour pieces that add complexity to your builds + you can put a robe over all your armour >can create spells and scrolls
Then the story and questline which actually lets you choose which factions you want to side with which actually changes the main story and isn’t just some side quest that doesn’t affect anything. All the characters and their motivations are way more mature and complex than anything like “you are the chosen one”. In fact, there are many chosen ones in Morrowind, you are just one of them battling for control. And of course you have the fact that there’s no fast travel outside of taking the boats or striders and there are no quest markers and you have to actually listen to the clues provided by the dialogue in the game. And of course you also have to manage which quests you pick up so you can actually keep track of them in your journal because the game doesn’t let you just overload a laundry list of quest markers to activate.

You can choose what factions you join in any TES game. Morrowind like the rest of them will let you become the head of every guild. Your faction does not matter one iota. The Arch Mage will give you a quest to kill the telvani councilors while you are a telvani councilor.

You have to rely on the RNG to remember you are carrying a shield. The detection spells show up not on screen not on the mini map but int he map in the main menu. Gameplay is not Morrowinds strong suit.
