Keep multiple saves.

don't use a guide, just fuck around and have fun
if a character turns into a chest/crystal, they are gone forever
if you press left/right when selecting moves, you can see when they will go off, this is really important for spells

Dragoons suck. Teaching the main character the Teleport movement skill will save you a major headache later in the game.

Power level before Dorter

JP up ability is your best friend

I'd say at least look up a job guide

Best advice.

Play the psp/android version.
Play tactics ogre also. Have fun user.

Play Tactics Ogre (One Vision) instead. All these tactics games are horribly unbalanced unmodded.

be sure to level Chemist to rank 8 before working on any other jobs.

don't neglect leveling ramza

>Any advice ?
Don't play this garbage.

What do you suggest instead of this "garbage"?

>you've never played this game before but I'm still going to tell you to play a modded version of a completely different game for "balance" even though said balance mods are made with experienced players in mind
mix bleach into your onions

It's not worth the learning curve. Play another tactics game.

Make a whole team of red chocobos for easy mode

>learning curve
lol maybe try not being a retard

You need to make sure you do this or you will be fucked

Spend some time clearing the enemies off the field, except for one, and have your dudes throw rocks at each other preferably while Ramza uses Yell or Accumulate or something - it’s tedious but it’ll help out if you feel underpowered

Kick out all the party members you get in the first battle at Gariland.
Recruit three new generic units: two females with perfect zodiac compatibility with Ramza and one male with good compatibility with both the two female units and Ramza.
Turn the two female unit into Chemists, but keep the male as a Squire.
Send one female unit down the white mage job tree.
Send the other female unit down the black mage job tree.
Send Ramza and the generic male unit down the Knight path.

Oh, and take 's advice to heart.

> 'dragoons suck'

HAHAHA

How to 'Jump'
1) find enemy with low CP up to 8 squares away
2) if you get to 100 CP at 2x your speed before they do, you will hit them
3) kill them in one hit while being invincible the whole time

There is a learning curve to every game. It has nothing to do with being smart or stupid. There are plenty more complex RTS games that are actually worth playing.

here's your (you).

i played the shit out of the GBA game as a kid. how does it compare to the original PS1 version?

Far inferior to the original FFT mechanically and story-wise. And that's even with the latter being a broken mess.

at beginning make everyone earn shout and JP up. go to random encounter and kill all but one enemy chocobo. surround it on all sides and shout repeatedly, heal as needed. the reason for the chocolate is it heals itself if you have to have one character attack it since they all might now have shout. farm to until max class. switch classes. equip squire sub for shout, repeat forever.

GBA one is much easier, but still good. PS1 has some balance issues in that some classes are severely underpowered and borderline useless in comparison to others. Still great, pretty good story if you give a shit. Only one that I don't think is worth playing is the DS one.

They're both good, but very different
If you liked FFTA, then by all means give FFT a try

PS1 FFT is much better than FFTAs as it has no LAW system, better graphics and more 'mature' story if not as fun as calling Marche the villain of everything

>tfw poor chocobo surrounded by shouting maniacs

Don't do this, no reason to cheese and become one shot gods that early.

>Dragoons suck
Don't know how true this is at a meta level, but highly disagree for a casual run.

>Teleport
Always seemed pretty useless to me. The accuracy drops way too much and later on you have other RELIABLE options that just seem better.

For the love of god, don't enter Riovanes with Ramza as a Mime. I'm probably the only one who has ever made this mistake, but fuck I'll warn you anyways. Also, if you are playing the PSP version, don't have Ramza as a Dark Knight by this point. You will make Wiegraf too easy and miss out on why most people have nightmares from this dude...

>Don't play this because the learning curve is too high
>I prefer these other games because they have high learning curves
>I don't even know what a RTS game is
OP, don't be a faggot and ignore everything this retard says.

i dont think ive done a playthrough after my first where i didnt grind to 99 in mandalia plains

>advice
draw your sword, ramza

I never keep multiple saves in games but this piece of advice saved my playthrough. Do not ignore it.

Don't grind at all, it will trivialize the game.
Avoid using the high tier jobs. Reaction abilities are probably the most broken thing that you should use.
The game gets easier as you progress.
If you really want to try out new skills, look at the jp scroll glitch.
Monsters in general suck.
Look up a guide for side content in order to get Cloud and pals.

Fuck that... It is decent for some quick early JP, but the game will punish you for overleveling this early and there are MUCH better ways to level later that don't require you to waste your own time.

When you get a temporary party member, take away their ability to use items so they don't waste your supply. Also I prefer killing any temporary member that doesn't need to be alive just so they don't reduce my ability to get crystals and exp early on.

>the game will punish you for overleveling this early
Uh, no. Just save and soft reset on any random encounters, you don't need them anymore since you are lvl 99 with every job.

You are skipping the game in order to avoid punishment... Not everyone enjoys save scumming in order to avoid fighting in a game where ALL the fun comes from doing the fights...

We might be talking to Ullillillia here or some shit. I don't know anyone that thinks shout spamming for hours on end is more fun than playing the game.

it's hard

>save scumming
Get over it

*stops your progress*

Attached: latest[1].jpg (610x451, 48K)

>ALL the fun comes from doing the fights
The story is the best part.

Not OP but I’ve been curious about this game a while now.

I’m a total brainlet retard at strategy games. Is FFTA a better place for me to start than FFT? People seem to be saying that one is easier.

>tfw you have earned every worthwhile skill with every job class and beaten all optional content and the final boss by the time user is done with his grinding
>tfw you have had fun fights throughout the game and didn't have to bypass a single fight while user has only experienced meh fights from the beginning of the game
>tfw knowing if someone REALLY wanted to grind they'd be able to do it in literally 1/20th the time it took this idiot user
Feels good man...

The story is a really great part of the game and the best parts of the story are told during fights.

FFTA is more beginner friendly, just play that first and if you enjoy it then you can hang with the big boys in FFT

This game is not hard in general. There are like 4 or 5 fights that are kind of annoying but you can easily get by them by just doing 1-2 random encounters. Also late in the game you get a stupidly OP unit that can solo everything from that point on.
>he doesn't know about delevel farming to max all stats
Getting to 99 is child's play.

it's only for early levels ya dingus

this i got trapped with a couple of difficult battles

Attached: 1543852588462.jpg (588x581, 84K)

>a better place for me to start
If I remember correctly, the law system can really fuck up your fights and you can't do anything about it. Imagine rolling a dice and if the dice lands on 6 you automatically lose the fight.

I played this game in 2002 and i remember absurd difficulty spikes by the fourth mission or so and never touched it since. Am I retarded

>he doesn't know about delevel farming to max all stats
Got some reading comprehension? I'm talking about how LONG it takes to max out all classes doing it the way the post mentioned that I replied to. Even still, min-maxing is far from necessary in this game. Why would anyone want to spend all that time doing it when they could have already beaten the game and all the side content?

>you can't do anything about it
Law cards my dude

Ah that would be the infamous Dorter Slums battle At that point you just gotta get into random battles to build up your units and get decent abilities unlocked

>PS1 version has fucked translation
>PSP version has distorted audio and needs patching to deal with the slowdown bug
If only Square Enix didn't treat their games like complete shit

>farm to until max class. switch classes. equip squire sub for shout, repeat forever.
How the fuck is "max class and repeat forever" only for early levels? Be consistent user. I wouldn't have even replied if the comment was something along the lines of "do this for a few good early skills" or some such but it was implicitly stated it should be done for a shit load of time.

I bet you 1 million gil OP dies to Wiegraf

Pro tip: just strip his gay ass of all equipment

Play with Arithmetician/Calculators only if you want the easiest of easy modes. They are the key to breaking the game WIDE THE FUCK OPEN

If you think it is that hard to get to level 99 when you can fucking AUTOBATTLE it then you clearly don't know the lengths that some FFT players will go to grind just to see numbers go up. Anyone deleveling can beat the game easily without self imposed challenges like an SCC or SSCC.
Literal children can beat this game without grinding.

for brevity, I'm not writing a guide. typically I do this for monk Knight squire and proceed the rest of the game normally. suppose I should've clarified but I didn't actually expect people to sperg.

How’s the iPhone version?

>I say completely idiotic shit and don't expect people to reply about why my advice is horrible
This isn't a blog user. The point of you putting something on here is to get a reply.

>If you think it is that hard to get to level 99 when you can fucking AUTOBATTLE it then you clearly don't know the lengths that some FFT players will go to grind just to see numbers go up
Do you know what a strawman is? I suggest looking it up.

IIRC it was the PSP version but with slowdown patched. Also apparently saving mid battle doesn't work anymore. I remember the UI being horrible but it's probably playable on an iPad.
>he lacks the ability to think at all and needs to be explicitly told everything
Please use a trip so I can filter you.

have sex

Don't waste your time trying to get Cloud. By the time you get him you will be sick of grinding and will have several OP characters

>Law cards my dude
Unless I'm missing something, your ability to use law cards shouldn't be unlimited. If you are dispelling laws every battle, you will eventually run out. Is it hard to admit that the law system is just an unnecessary annoyance meant to waste your time?

Are you implying getting Cloud is hard and needs to be grinded for or did you just not like the side missions? If you mean it is just too many fights and you end up overleveled from it then just skip out on some randoms.

>Hey I'm making your argument for you so why is your argument wrong and idiotic?
Nope guess you don't know what a strawman is.

>Please use a trip
GTFO of an anonymous image board you worthless piece of shit redditor... This isn't a place to shit post since you aren't allowed to do so on your favorite site.

Dont be stupid. I beat that draw your sword ramza guy with Dragoon and Haste. Completely dodged his Ultima crap.

No he is implying that by the time you can finally earn Cloud you are so far into the game that you have already invested a bunch of time into your team so a brand new blank slate isn't worth it.

Note that I don't necessarily agree with this user. I was just helping you understand his argument.

>hey guys I'm about to start this brand new game and get to discover all about it but before I even get to start it I'm gonna ask about things I "should" know
>hi there instead of giving very vague allusions to things that might trip you up without realizing so as to preserve your first playthrough experience I'm gonna detail explicit power strats formed over multiple runs for you to play exactly how I did as if you're following a guide

This isn't PvP, you aren't going to fight a Two-Swords Ninja ever anyway.

Also, the way CT works out, unless the Ninja kills the Dragoon in one shot after going first (which is likely, fair enough), when the turn rolls over to the Dragoon and he jumps, the ninja generally won't have enough CT to get a turn before the Jump resolves

This is fine until you lose your main healer, then it starts spiralling out of control until you're stuck using Boco's kids as meatshields for MC and Agrias, because training up proper new recruits for those spots past the early-game takes far too long

Two entirely different games with vaguely similar gameplay mechanics

This game is quite challenging, and if you play it like any other JRPG you just might find yourself unable to progress because you're too weak for a battle. Keep multiple save files.

No it doesn't. The 99/100 times, the generics you get at Gariland battle have bad stats and poor zodiac compatibility. Three tailored units will be way more useful in the long-run.

That's a different game user.

There's a fix for that: romhacking.net/hacks/979/

Yeah, I'm not defending Square for not making a proper port, but at least you can play the game how it was meant to be with a hacked PSP.

Cid is broken

Dragoons are perfectly serviceable. Only things wrong with them is game makes you figure out if you'll land your Jump before they move (which isn't even hard to do) and the awful amount of JP needed to buy up all of the distances and altitudes. Sure, there's better or more broken options but they're work

PS1 version is the pleb translation most likely because they expected the audience to be children so they made sure it was understandable
PSP version has graphical lag which can be fixed with a patch and uses faux-Shakespearean vocabulary which really lends itself to the setting of the game

If you're playing on an actual PSP you could also play PSX version mods by using its built-in emulator

I guess that's makes sense, shame that Square-Enix is so big and basically holds a monopoly on JRPG,s including consolidating many other superior JRPG developers under it's label.

>FFT
>RTS Game
post one tactics game other than FFT

how long will this take to beat for someone who nevber played before ?

It took FF's strengths, went medieval, and brought that to a superior genre.

>am I cool yet
No.

Really depends on how much you try to overlevel and how much side content you manage to go for. I'd guess 30 to 40 for a blind run without any crazy time spent on leveling.

>>am I cool yet
I don't give a shit what you think, FF is a poor JRPG series and there are hundreds that get overlooked because this shit has a bigger marketing department than the other series.

I didn't know that. So they fucked up the entire single-player experience on a single-player game (I couldn't even play without the patch because I was so used to the original) just because of some co-op feature? Pretty shitty if you ask me.

>there are hundreds that get overlooked
There are some series better than FF but not hundreds. You must really love garbage to think so. As for the rest, people who genuinely love JRPGs know what those games are. Who exactly is missing out on them? The general masses that have shit tastes to begin with? What is the harm in them getting overlooked by the masses? I mean, do you love FFXV? Because that is what your favorite series will turn into if it gets the attention you crave so much for it. You are complaining that you don't get to have your very own monkey's paw. Be glad user...

Hardly. He's a crutch at best

I really wanted to play this game and enjoy the story but TRPGs are so boring for me and I suck at them. I got to chapter 2 and just gave up out of boredom and frustration, the story couldn't keep me going. The only other TRPGs I've played is FE: Shadow Dragon to the end and Eternal Poison for like 5 hours. Is there a better starting point to get more accustomed to TRPG gameplay? As much as I want to witness the story I actually want to feel like I earned it without abusing the game.

>overleveling
there's a delevel trap on one of the maps in chapter 1
just level up on a job with great stat growth then switch to a job with low stat growth like bard or squire when you delevel

>I want to spend days leveling and deleveling early on for no good reason when I can do it later in the game at a mere fraction of the time
Again you seem to fail to see the problem. Early game leveling is dooable. I've tried to make it apparent as fuck that the problem is not how feasible it is but rather how much time is being wasted. Why are you coming in here and saying the same fucking shit all over again without reading the thread? Lurk more and stop wasting my time...

I like how the FFT themed enemies all use the same Knight skills, some of them even do spell barks.
