Kirby's had the 2D platformer niche for 27 years now, and a huge shift like that would likely alienate a lot of people that were into it before.
Plus, the gameplay would be so unlike any of the other mainline games that it would be better off a a spin-off.
A 3D platformer spinoff like Super Mario 3D Land would be nice, though.
