before anyone mentions it, "makes you feel like (x)" is a perfectly fine critical term. I don't want to play a batman game where it feels like I'm playing a platforming mortal kombat, for example.

Have to remember Thief was a PC exclusive. Consoles and PC were pretty much treated as entirely different platforms especially when it came to FPS. That's why games like Goldeneye and Halo received so much more praise than they probably deserved despite PC having better shooters available. They were great by console FPS standards.
