The combat was surprisingly fun but hindered by its reliance on spamming roll. Stealth was OP, too. Horizon's biggest flaw was a Ubisoft-esque world - nice to look at but boring to explore and exist within. I didn't resonate with any of the characters, found Alloy obnoxious and also have a distaste for PlayStation exclusive's trend of adpoting RPG elemnts but only half-assing them. The skill tree and dialogue system were crap and the quests/cauldrons need to be far more fleshed out. I thought the story was pretty cliche, too, and the only aspect that saved the game from being a snooze fest were rad robo dinos.

The game wasn't a bad first attempt for a mediocre studio like GG who only made wannabe Halo games prior, but they need to step it up in the sequel big time.

I rate open world games based on how much of the world I have to explore before I feel like I've seen and done everything interesting, and the rest of the game is just a brainless copy-paste of that segment.

An Ubisoft game would be like 10-15%. Breath of the Wild was about 40%. Witcher 3, my favorite open world game ever, was about a 60-70%.

On that scale Horizon scores a 30%. I got about a third of the way through the game and then said, "Okay, I've done just about everything, I'm bored now" and stopped playing.

The Frozen Wastes or whatever the fuck the expansion was called was fucking quality but the main game is just eh. Best part about it being unearthing the lore about the old world and what happened to it. Oh and the game should have been stylized.

Also it's inherently lower quality than it could be since stick aiming is the bread and butter of the title. No fucking reason for their not to be gyro aiming. The DS4 has a good setup for that control scheme and it objectively makes console aiming leaps and bounds better. Uncharted, Killzone, Infamous, God of War 4, Horizon Zero Dawn and others were needlessly hampered by their devs not making good use of the hardware available to them.

I played it for about 6 hours around 7 months ago, but quit playing when I got the Dark souls Trilogy pack. Haven't been back to it since. The story felt retarded and I hate the was Aloy looks. The power armor or whatever isn't even the best armor, and the Frozen Wilds DLC have towers that you need to destroy because they heal nearby machines and disable the power armor. Even if the towers didn't do it, the strongest machines in the area can deplete it in a single hit

The game is just plain fucking boring
Combat isn’t really fun or interesting, consisting of the open world standard set by Ubisoft sandboxes with a skill tree that unlocks skills that usually don’t add much.
Dialogue is pointless and the facial animation and delivery is stiff.
The main character is bland as fuck, being vidya Brave. Also her hair looks fucking stupid making her head look to tall. The best thing you can say is her backstory is interesting, but it’s mostly expository and backstory!=character.
The robot dinosaurs are cool and are really the only thing worth seeing. It’s too bad they’re not the focus and the games decides to focus on gay tribal shit.
It’s not an incompetently made game in terms of assets or design on a surface level, but it feels repetitive only a few hours in and I was falling asleep playing it which never happens. It’s not a blunder, but it would be better if it was because then it’d at least be interesting and maybe even ironically fun. All in all, I would say it’s the Black Panther of vidya.

I just beat the game days ago for the first time having played it straight for three weeks; what an incredible experience. I loved everything about this game except the lack of armor mixing and maybe the fact that Redmaw was a chump and Hades was alright I guess but why didn't he summon two Storm Birds and a Thunder Jaw as his last stand? I mean seriously, a bellow back, corrupter and pair of scrappers was pitiful.

I have only gotten to 86% for the regular game but I will be forced to take a break from it because I'm traveling out of state for a month. I already deeply miss the game and wish that I could have my first playthrough back all over again. The story was not as bad as people had complained about; I actually found the writing to be exceptional and the plot was a great ride all the way through. My dad (who usually is uninterested in videogames) sat down and watched me play it for hours on end, and even he agreed that the story was great. I will never forget that shared experience I had with my pops, the only other time coming close was when he watched me take down every last colossus as Wander.

I really hope they bring this series back at some point, but I am already done with Aloy's story. I want them to open it up as more of a freeroam RPG; playing as a regular guy or gal and trying to survive in the world without the focus's help.

Horizon was more fun than most open world games to date... the combat wasn't barebones and the stealth came at a time where I was so pissed that MGSV sucked and Horizon gave me something more similar to the stealth of the past Metal Gears. Its light years better... better story... it has a better way of figuring out past events with the databases you access while advancing... honestly, it's better than The Witcher 3, but nobody will admit it.
