Re-release classic JRPG on PS4, Xbone and Switch

>re-release classic JRPG on PS4, Xbone and Switch
>has built in cheats to refill all your characters' health and limit breaks at any time with the press of a button
>can turn off random battles at any time
The absolute state of zoomers
Why are they so afraid of any semblance of a challenge?

your post implies FF7 had challenge to begin with. That said while almost all of the cheats suck, the speed up one is a godsend to alleviate final fantasy's slow, braindead combat

I agree that the game isn't hard, bar the end game extra bosses
But it still removes any and all tension or engagement the battles may have had knowing that if you start to lose you can just click in the stick and refill everything.
There's no need to even pay attention at that point, so you may as well just watch a playthough on YT for the story

That shit is dumb but holy shit is a fast forward button in more standard JRPG's a godsend. Also make more than one battle theme you lazy assholes. Seriously what the fuck 50+ hours of the same song over and over. No song is that good and even if it is after that much exposure that quickly it will wear unless you have brain problems.

removing dumb random encounters is a good thing.
those pissed me off even 20 years ago.
if you want a challenge, play challenging games and stop pretending jrpgs were ever challenging.

>it still removes any and all tension or engagement the battles may have had knowing that if you start to lose you can just click in the stick and refill everything

So.... Don't?

The random encounters were always part of the challenge. Being able to risk exploring more vs making it back to safety was a fundamental part of the gameplay, like it or not. The game was designed around it. That's like being able to vanish a squad of Covenant out of the campaign in Halo because you're low on health and ammo
It breaks the game
But then again, you're gonna have to fight monsters at some point to level up
Oh wait no you don't you can just keep refilling your health at any time so no need to level up at all
What's the point

if you want challenge, play sekiro and fuck off jrpgs.
jrpgs were never more than spamm x.
jrpgs are not meant to be challenging, dumb action gameplay zoomer.

It's part of the game now, retard, you HAVE to use it.

Your saying that if you bought a new car that you should just not use the break pettle.

go play a Tales game, most of them have multiple battle themes

>jrpgs were never more than spamm x.
play something other than final fantasy trash please

I beat FF7 on release, faggot
What if in Sekiro they included a cheat button where if you clicked in the stick st any time you get full health and are invulnerable for a shirt time? Then the developers just said "oh", if you want a challenge, just don't click that button".
Don't say you wouldn't come on here and complain about how cucked that is

who gives a shit, it's just an option. if you feel the need to use it, it's your fault.

I've only played Tales of Destiny 2, which isn't actually that as far as I understand it. The one with the punching girl with the green hair. Also I complain but I've noticed a trend in newer JRPG's to include more than one battle theme anyway so it's not like it's a huge deal anymore. Still though it always annoyed me.

like what ?
star ocean - could skip random encounters by running past enemies.
legend of heroes - could skip random encoutners by running past enemies
tales of - could skip random encounters by running past enemies
ff8 - junction diabolos gf ability to remove random encounters

if you really think jrpgs were challenging you just suck at videogames.
>inb4 the last remnant
saga games challenge were allways a main point of the game. and for those its ok since they were meant to be challenging. other jrpgs arent.

you can skip enemies in every game by running away from them, it's even easier to do in sekiro which you mentioned

>I beat FF7 on release, faggot
good for you, how does it have anything to do with what i said, retard.
alone the fac that you use the term "beat the game" for rpgs means that you are a fucking dumb add zoomer

>the game isn't challenging because you can skip enemies by running
>mentions sekiro as a challenging game
fuck off

Attached: chad.gif (320x214, 2.66M)

I'm a filthy casual and I use that shit to grind limit breaks and level up my materia. But once I'm done I play the game like normal. Fight me.

>break pettle
Based

>What if in Sekiro they included a cheat button where if you clicked in the stick st any time you get full health and are invulnerable for a shirt time?
then it would be bad gamedesign since the game is meant to be challenging.
jrpgs are not meant to be challenging so it doesnt fucking matter.
if you honestly think jrpgs are challenging you just fucking suck at videogames.

>muh limit and health refills
who cares besides the ultima weapons this game is piss toddler easy anyway
>muh turn off random battles
getting an encounter every 4 steps is annoying as shit when you are just trying to get somewhere

they are good quality of life changes, same with the 3x speed. If not wanting to waste your time doing repetitive shit is zoomer shit, then non zoomers have too much time on their hands.

Just let people play the way they want and stop crying.

>beat FF7 on release
>released in 1997
>zoomer
Kill yourself you braindead incel, learn math
Also people have been saying beat the game since before you were born, which was probably sometime during the Obama era

jrpgs main point should allways be worldbulding, character development and story, if you want games for the challenge, go to another genre.
the world is not meant to appeal to your special zoomer taste.

>who gives a shit, it's just an option. if you feel the need to use it, it's your fault.
based 'gimp yourself' poster

>break pettle

Attached: 5D274A57-35B0-4547-A901-EBA164B8CDEB.jpg (450x403, 40K)

no they didnt, people never used to say "beat the game" when refering to jrpgs. they maybee used it with action games.
go play darksouls, zoomer piece of shit.
playing jrpgs for the "challenge" is just fucking pathetic.

>go play dark souls (jRPG) for challenge

>dark souls
>jrpg
you convinced me, zoomer.

autism speaks

This is now an Aeris post. Dump your Aeris collections.

Attached: 403892.jpg (2268x1686, 718K)

>people didn't used to say "beat the game" when referring to literally any game
>muh Dark Souls Le Prepare To Die™ Edition
>still can't do math
Go back to your From Software subreddit you faggot piece of shit

i dont need math to tell that you are a dumb casual zoomer, try harder to fit in.

Unfortunately, like all JRPG's FFVII is incredibly linear. The whole "open world" thing doesn't mean a whole lot if the only thing to do is the main quest. Adding better graphics won't fix the game.

What? I dont get it?

>Jarpigs
>Hard

>can turn off random battles at any time
This is the only thing I have no problem with, random battles are not hard nor challenging, it's fucking annoying. I am so glad Bravely Default has a fucking slider to increase and decrease enemy encounters.

But you literally do have multiple battle themes

is this worth playing if i didnt play it before and have no nostalgia?

>>has built in cheats to refill all your characters' health and limit breaks at any time with the press of a button
Just don't use them?

The only cheat they added that I'd use is the 3x speed cheat because turn based games on higher speed are way nicer to play.

Yes

Yes. Only if JRPGs are your thing. Even modern ones are a slog to get through if you are not fan of the genre.

IT's a feature of the game though, if your not using it you waisted money.

The only cheat I used was the speedup one. Everything else is, legitimately, cheats.

Oh, you're pretending to be retarded, carry on.

It wasn't in the old versions, so if you want to play it like the old ones just don't use them

You wanna do this dance? Fine, there's the standard battle theme that you hear all day, there's the regular boss theme that you hear every hour or less, then comes the Jenova boss theme. Alright we're up to three now looking good for our 60 hour game what else do we have, oh there's that one song that's used as fight music in the VERY beginning when you assault the Mako reactor with Barret and his crew then it's just used as a "Oh shit thing's are getting serious" song from that point forward. I could go on but I'm not actually autistic and it's too hard to pretend. You know what I mean homo, it would've been great to have more variety then 3 songs plus using normally scene setting music as battle themes given the context of whatever was happening.

That wasn't important for JRPGS at that point though so no one cared except me, because I'm a special snowflake and the world revolves around my desires.

>literally
Yeah if you wanna use that word you douchnozzle you're correct

Troll.
It is in this one, and this is the one I am playing.
Not using a feature of a game is literalley stupid.

>Also make more than one battle theme you lazy assholes.
even better make an option to turn off battle music so location ambient music just continues during battles

it would be cool if the FF re-releases had more than one speed setting. the speed up is useful as hell when travelling, but i don't like to use it while fighting because it's too fast

Who cares?
JRPGS "challenge" is literally just the fucking grind.
It's disgusting filler and I have no idea how you can justify that kind of game design today.
>here's your 10000th random encounter with zero challenge to fill in time between story and bosses
I understand why they did it, but it was never good and you can't really defend it anymore.

This game definitely needs difficulty settings.

Like hard mode and lunatic mode or something.

There are some really good hacks for the Playstation CD images, and they make the Final Fantasy games much more fun.

grinding is a personal fault, not the game's

>never playing the game
Materia nigger, and limits, chocobos etc.
Shit you have to do to prep for fighting the weapons.
You literally have to grind to be able to see the best content in the game.

you never have to grind in ff7. the weapons you can kill by clever use of materia. mimic+kotr, mimic + limit break etc.

You don't know what you're talking about and you clearly never play jrpgs. A good one like many from those days are supposed to be challenging and use and play on interesting mechanics to get you to create plays based on your current level and state. They've been getting progressively shittier and there's becoming less and less of a reason to play rpgs since they're basically transforming into tedious movies. This problem is plaguing many genres though

there are people who beat emerald weapon at level 1 with additional self imposed restrictions, git gud

>You don't know what you're talking about and you clearly never play jrpgs.
i played about 150 different jrpgs.
there are games that have a more tactical and challenging combat.
yet jrpgs mainfocuse should allways be: worldbuilding, character developtment, story.
if you dont even understand that you are simply at the wrong genre. there are action rpgs that are specialy designed for people like you who want a challenge. just play them instead.

>i played about 150 different jrpgs.
Nigger, there aren't 150 good JRPGs. Unless you have some sort of life goal of playing every JRPG in existence, you didn't do that.

>Nigger, there aren't 150 good JRPGs.
what the fuck are you talking about?
alone tales of has about 20, ff more then 20, dragon quest, shin megami tensei.
if you cant even atleast think of 150 different jrpgs you should shut up with telling other people abotu what jrpgs meant to be.

>mainfocuse should allways be: worldbuilding, character developtment, story.
You're thinking of a book or a movie. Games need some degree of challenge. Jrpgs are a balance of those elements AND gameplay. That's the whole point.

rpgs should be rpgs, the game is the roleplay.
i played rpgs even before videogames existed.
it doesnt matter if they are closer to a book or a movie. rpgs should simply be rpgs.

Even if you include all of Tales, all of FF, all of DQ, and all of SMT, that isn't 150 games. You're full of shit.

>Why are they so afraid of any semblance of a challenge?
FF games have none to begin with, at least they're giving people their fast forward button to end those movies a bit earlier and skip the pathetic excuse for gameplay you have to suffer through.
Or are you mad that even Squenix now admits that FF always had garbage gameplay?
Does it scare you so much?

Attached: 1544220973833.png (983x1062, 615K)

>>can turn off random battles at any time
Honestly, this might not be a bad thing. Random encounters are objectively the worst part to classic RPGs.
t. someone who just beat BoF4 and is fucking sick of random encounters

okay, zoomer.
again. if you cant atleast think of 150 different jrpgs you shouldnt tell people what jrpg's are meant to be.
whetever you are aware of their existence or not doesnt change the fact.

You're lying through your fucking teeth, you stupid pile of shit. No one on Earth has played 150 JRPGs unless they were trying to crack a world record or something. The next time you tell a lie, try to make it more believable, you stupid faggot.

The best part is in 10 to 20 years they will do this to all From games

>FF games have none to begin with, at least they're giving people their fast forward button to end those movies a bit earlier and skip the pathetic excuse for gameplay you have to suffer through.

I wish 15 had something like that so my finger wouldn't get cramped from Holding O all the time.

Like the 1.5 hours it took to kill the turtle "superboss"

>i didnt, so noone else did!
next time you tell a 40yo NEET that he has never played jrpgs atleast get yourself some information on jrpgs.
there are over 300 and more.
final fantasy is not the only jrpg

What is it about jrpg video games that appeal to you? Would you enjoy them just as much if the stories were told through a different medium?

>still harping on Final Fantasy
Name a single JRPG that isn't FF, DQ, SMT, Tales, Pokémon, or Nep. And then explain what you think about that game.

i just love to imerse myself into a different world, get to like the character and go onto an adventure with them.

not going to give you a fucking list, google them for yourself.
also pokemon is no jrpg.

dude just go to gamefaqs and look at the jrpg category

>Would you enjoy them just as much if the stories were told through a different medium?
ahh forgot to answer about that.
basicly yes, there are just not that much other medius that tell phantasy storys well.
vn's or books are pretty good too

>the entire point of my post was to point out that you were lying, and you have no knowledge of JRPGs
>lol, I won't name them, look it up
Absolutely based retards.

>Pokemon is no JRPG
Holy shit do you have brain issues?
Is the DQMonsters series not a JRPG? Are the Digimon games not JRPGs? What about WoFF, Yo-Kai Watch, Ni no Kuni, etc?

>also pokemon is no jrpg.
I'd like to hear your rationale on this one.

the the standart dq series is jrpg, yet dq heroes and dq monsters are no jrpgs.

I respect your opinion and mostly agree. But I also enjoy jrpgs for not only that but also overcoming of challenges with them as well. I think a well challenged jrpg is much better then an unchallenging one.

Why do you think that?

whoops meant

not "Japanese Style", but "Trainer". Pokemon is its own genre, along with Digimon etc.

Attached: Untitled picture.png (390x325, 10K)

SaGa games are challenging, but luckily, they're not the only challenging games, granted that a good part of those challenging JRPGs out there are either doujin stuff like the 2HU SaGa clones or niche stuff like Elona, but there's still a few decent games that do try to push your shit in like Etrian, Elminage, Natural Doctrine, From's stuff and so on.

I do wish more games took the SaGapill but eh, what can you do, games are mostly for casuals, which is why people glorify mediocrity like Final Fantasy or Witchershit and Bethesda trash on the WRPG side.
At least it seems Yea Forums is more or less trying to evolve a little given how the new JRPG for the cool bois in here is SMT, which isn't really much of a step up, but still not the bottom of the barrel like the FF franchise.
Then again it might just be the fact that there's a turn over in demographics given how SMT is more known and appealing to young people nowadays, who knows, what I know is that more challenging or core games in general stay niche regardless, and perhaps it's better that way.

Attached: 1554474820219.gif (500x482, 3.23M)

ye, cant deny that a challenge somewhat matters. after all you`re stuck in combat for multiple hours.
just saying it shouldnt be the focuse and removing random encoutners is fine. meaningfull combat aslong tis not just doable by pressing x is ok.

Now this is the most retarded thing I've read all week.

>your post implies FF7 had challenge to begin with.

If this is true then why did they add a built in cheat that makes the game easier you doofus?

I refuse to believe you're this stupid. Please stop pretending to be retarded for attention on Yea Forums, user. It isn't healthy.

They added cheats because they stopped pretending people ever played FF for the gameplay, simple as that.

not him, but hes right.
cant remember the exact term anymore. but gonna google it for you

>because they stopped pretending people ever played FF for the gameplay
because FF started with 6 right?

I'll wait.

>FF for the gameplay,
They did.
People would discuss how to beat this or that or play this minigame or that in the game all of the time.

Problem is that people continue to forget that the entire game was a series of minigames wrapped around a story and a cast of varied characters.

>FF7
>Challenge

heh, good one

Yes and they have the attention span of a flea unless they're on their phones.

>that kid who leveled to 50 before leaving midgar for the first time

Nobody cares about older FF, stop pretending they matter, and if you want to be picky they made older ones easier with each rerelease too, FF doesn't have a cohesive fanbase like other franchises, it's an ever shifting fanbase made of new blood raked in with every generation of games, the actual veterans are a completely irrelevant part of the fanbase.
They added cheats to FF7 because it's the franchise's golden egg goose, simple as that, then they did the same for 8 and 9 since they worked on those rereleases at the same time and probably run on the same engine too.

Oh and don't fucking forget, they're also skipping a rerelease for 8 this time around, shows just how much they care.

Attached: 1530482445273.jpg (400x400, 31K)

I was so dedicated to Tifa my second and third playthroughs I grinded her up to her level 3 limit breaks before leaving the Shinra building.

Attached: 1553530358172m.jpg (1024x576, 42K)

Nice blackpill, you fucking jew.

>douchnozzle
Yanks are fucking rotten at swearing.

Boomer here, some of these changes are pretty necessary.

FF7 is slow as hell, so the speed up button is nice.

Also the option to turn off random battles is really nice in the overworld.

I never used the instant limit break cheats, but the switch version was the best experience I had with the game.

It sucks on PS1, and it's okay on PC.

Growlancer, Suikoden, Phantasy Star, Lunar, Grandia, i'm sure I could think of at least 10 more in an instant

Believe what you want, the facts are there though and you can't deny them.
I know it hurts but you gotta grow up eventually and finally realize FF is nothing but shallow trash eaten by kids who don't know any better or manchildren.

It speaks volumes when they don't even dare do things like that to DQ games but they do that to FF and get away with it, nobody cares outside of (You), a ragtag bunch of die hard nobodies who want to pretend FF was ever good, let alone had good gameplay.

Attached: 1524469809043.jpg (680x510, 47K)

I don't currently like FF, obviously, but I have fond memories. If you are asserting that the entire series is worthless, you are a retarded nigger, and I will fight you until 500.

Congrats, you aren't that dipshit teenager who pretended to play 150 JRPGs.

Dude, we've been saying "beat the game" since the 80's. Probably even earlier.

fucking this.
turbo button turned TiTs from 7/10 to 9/10.

It's not zoomers, it's PC gamers. All those shitty built in cheats were introduced on PC then they just ported the PC version to the modern consoles.

By all means do so, you can keep living in your delusion until you die for all I care, it's all the more entertaining for me either way, especially when I see you fags argue with Barry.

>taking Barry's side
Oh, I see. You're literally insane.

If we just counted western and Japanese RPGs and Visual Novels as a whole I'd probably be close to 150 as a 31 year old boomer

Why would we include western games and visual novels? Explain that to me, based retard.

I take nobody's side but mine, I don't even care about your shitty series, although as a spectator I do very much enjoy the shitflinging.

lmao, guess /v is really full of zoomers.
>No one on Earth has played 150 JRPGs
150 is not that special. especially considering you`'re on a website full of old neckbeards and NEET's

You sound like you have a wicked sense of humor.

They should just make it so that games play themselves. Zoomers would love it.

All JRPGs are good. JRPGs are inherently good games, other details are not that important

Yeah, Kefka's my favorite character, how did you know?

I was simply saying that if we encompassed the entire role playing genre as a whole and included visual novels then I might hit 150 words words words games though all my years playing video games. Relax, retard, i'm just making conversation.

Attached: 1552426491550m.jpg (723x1024, 74K)

boomer here.
i'd like to play the game myself, though an option that skips sidequests, removes meaningless combat, allows to backtrack in turbomode and skip cast/summon animations would be a godsent.

Who is holding you at gunpoint and forcing you to use the cheats? They're completely optional.

theres propably over 300 only jrpgs.
depends on whetever you include indie games such as machinae of the planet tree planet ruler, asdivine hearts or eroge jrpgs like tai ma yugi.

here, this guy made a list with alone 101 jrpg he played, not even including english subed jp only rpgs and andie games.
youtube.com/watch?v=lf9dcd_HvYw&list=PLng-hJ0Wsy0OCcsWmhzThv0lr9QzFsxk1

>zoomer aids built in
>they're turned off by default
>you have to go into menus to turn them on each time you play
Im a boomer and I dont see the issue here.... how is this any different than my gen's game genie or gameshark?

i hope you pretendious boomer can count.
escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.387682-CHALLENGE-JRPG-Master-List

>i said something inconceivably stupid, but i was just making conversation haha ;P
Go back to plebbit. You don't belong here.

Yes, congrats, 150 JRPGs do, in fact, exist. You didn't play them, though.

The modern remaster of FF7 is trash anyways, PS1 on a CRT or bust
Steam version is acceptable after a few necessary mods

doesnt matter whetever you believe it or not, couldnt care less.
the point is: if you dont even know that over 150 different jrpgs exist you are not in the place to tell people that they never played jrpgs, and what jrpgs should be.
most older people on this board played way more then 200.

There aren't 150 JRPGs in existence, tard.

theres more then 300, zoomer.
if you include indie it even goes to over 400.

I never said that there aren't 150 JRPGs, I said that you didn't play them. I almost exclusively play JRPGs, and I've maybe played about 60. You're utterly full of shit if you're saying you played double that. You'd have to literally be a NEET that does nothing but play JRPGs. Your mom is angry about the cookie jar, and you need to learn how to lie better.

Did you mean pretentious? Don't know how I was pretentious there, but more power to you I guess.
Oh, a wild faggot out in the open. Ok then, retard.

>You'd have to literally be a NEET that does nothing but play JRPGs.
welcome to Yea Forums, enjoy your stay

>if I call you a retard, that's the end of it. I don't even have to explain anything
Pathetic. Don't respond again.

Why do fags keep saying ff7 is slow or turn based? It literally has an active time battle system. If you wait you'll fucking die. Did we play the same game?

Attached: 1551490230273.jpg (300x300, 49K)

No you just press the analog stick.

>You'd have to literally be a NEET that does nothing but play JRPGs

Attached: 1539034190639.png (644x644, 936K)

15FPS is pretty fucking slow to me

you can turn the active part off, so enemies will wait till your turn is over.
but its optional

It's slow because it's 15fps with long battle animations.

People seriously give a shit about the FPS of the character models? God I fucking hate zoomers

>FF7 babies calling other underage

Attached: 1378146670402.png (234x238, 85K)

>playing the fucked up modern port
The original PS1 version's menus run at a smooth 60

Is this on the switch version? This actually makes me want to buy it.

I've been meaning to replay ff7 but I don't have the fucking time for a turn based jrpg. The last one I finished was Radient Historia and that was because the gameplay had a gimmick. Generic turn based games are painful to get through.

Shits tedious. Don't waste your time playing through shitty gameplay if you don't have to.

>You'd have to literally be a NEET that does nothing but play JRPGs.
>he doesnt know

Attached: satou.jpg (704x400, 42K)

Play TWEWY, nerd.

Attached: 1EA408F5-6B62-4CE0-9E37-CC8142F7239D.jpg (1024x576, 120K)

People playing these games are getting older and have less time. Correct response is less random encounters but with better EXP rates and damage scaled to interact with this.

Attached: 97c.jpg (1024x574, 118K)

Battle Chasers Nightwar is quite light on the grind and does enough stuff with the basic formula to make it enjoyable without going overboard, worth a look if you haven't already.

Attached: battle_chasers_nightwar____gully_by_knight_mj_dc0mm57-fullview.jpg (1024x1449, 159K)

Yeah, it is. I’ve been playing the game normally on PS4, though, and it’s actually pretty fun.

>Linear=Broken
Boy sure is 2011 in here

>Unfortunately, like all JRPG's FFVII is incredibly linear
and thats a good thing, fuck open world.

Nah, if you're playing on max battle speed party members get max level limits mad early

this
It's no different before then
Started FFV yesterday but the combat is literally hold A to win

fucking this. FFXV is open world and it's trash. FFVII had plenty of stuff to do and getting to each location was quick (especially once you get the highwind), flying about in an overworld in airship is a million times less tedious than being driven around an open world in the Regalia.

Prepare for depression

Fuck off, idiot.

Is that real? It sounds fun, I wanted to get the limit breaks more often.

Why are you so angry user?
FF7 is a pretty depressing game if you didn't play it as a child and so have nostalgia for it.

I'm not angry, and FF7 is not a depressing game.

FFXV is linear and it's an open world game, open world doesn't entail non linearity.
Not like I expect much from somebody who didn't even object to the ridiculous statement that all JRPGs are linear, but really, this place gets worse and worse by the day.

You'll be depressed... depressed you didn't play it sooner.

>FFXV is linear

then explain this world map

Attached: ffxv-royal-tombs-map-fextralife-com.jpg (600x338, 45K)

they know that playing old jrpg is fucking slog if and there nothing in the combat that makes people like it. even XIII had the optima change shit that if you change at the right time you didn't had to wait for the ATB bar to fill to attack

Finish high school English and come back when you're of age

ive got the non steam release for ff7 is there a way to activate the speed up via a trainer or cheat. afaik i cant find it. love the game but the slow speed is killing it. FF9/X were awesome becasue of this.

Balling!

>If you wait you'll fucking die.

It is literally impossible to die during battle in FFVII.

Aire Tam Storm killed you, and you know it.

How is an attack that does 0 damage supposed to kill you?

Why did you not have materia equipped?
