Well yeah, that's the point. Minfilia is the human version of the beastmen. In 1.0 she actually was a strong and competent leader, and then Louisoix shoved his 'save the world' mission onto her. She stopped believing in her own power, and then looked to higher powers (Hydaelyn and the Warrior of Light). And she got fucked for it. That's a good character arc with a purpose.

Lyse's failure wasn't intentional, because the story never recognizes those failures. It tries to tell you she grew while she was in Doma by watching Hien, but she never really did. Not only that, she blatantly ignores things she should already know like how fucking dangerous tempered beastmen are. And at the end of the day, she's rewarded. Lyse is just a case of bad, nonsensical writing.

In lvl 50 content you can pull bosses with Sword Oath because you only have one combo, the aggro combo. Which means that you'll never lose aggro anyway. Although the moment you unlock the damage combo (Royal Authority at lvl 56 or something) you will have to do what user said, pull in Shield Oath, do one Halone then switch over and spam Royal Authority

99.99% of all expansions regardless of game simply add new content and a new race/class with ShB you're getting new races and classes plus probably new animations for whatever classes+new spells they add for existing classes and I guess if you want to be optimistic XIV is one of the few games that add new hair customization ever patch so there's probably going to be a few more of those in ShB. In short look forward to new classes/races and a new story, level cap and end game anything you get outside of that consider bonus content going above and beyond the average.

I never found SAM all that easy. It's obviously not as hard as like, NIN, but there's quite a bit to keep track of if you want optimal DPS.

I'm on Omega, user. It seems ok, but then again, I run a FC with my close knit group and don't really interact with randoms outside DF.

By either making the process of getting through the zone offer some challenge or yeah, putting reasons to go back there. And said reasons should also offer some challenge.
Basically, this game is too fucking easy before you hit savage raiding. That's a broader problem admittedly but nothing in a game is going to leave much of an impression if it's frictionless.
Zones in modern MMOs are the best example of this because unlike instances, which can be scaled in difficulty and are very focused affairs, instances are these huge landscapes populated by meaningless foes in which you complete a series of tasks in once, most of which do not actually involve needing to explore or find anything due to quest indicators, and only occasionally return to for very specific daily quests. The tradition of even including outdoor zones in MMOs, especially ones without PVP like FFXIV, seems to be just that, a matter of tradition. You could and arguably should just replace the entire game with instanced challenges outside of the cities, which people like to socialize in.
It doesn't bother me too much that games like WoW have a pointless overworld but in FFXIV the zone design, music, and setting are gorgeous and well-realized so it's a shame that all that creativity goes into pretty set-pieces that are otherwise unimportant.

The best things XI has to offer aren't obvious just from watching a video. It has a shitload of depth in job design and the gearing system. Things like subjobs and gear swapping add a lot to the combat, and it's designed to give you a lot of freedom in how you approach any fight. And the exploration is much more about the atmosphere and the danger in the world than anything else. Taking your time, immersing yourself in the world, and exploring on your own are the best way to experience FFXI.

Basically it's the character design. Everyone in FFXIV is beautiful because the game has a very idealized, but not necessarily unrealistic art style. Plus there's a shiton of ultra feminine animations for your perfectly symmetrical catgirl character. Combined with the very social nature of the community and the end result is that you basically get to live as a girl in this game. Obviously, that's going to appeal to someone who wants to be a girl in real life.

There was never really a culture of making curated videos for FFXI like there was in WoW and many other MMOs. The result is that most people who uploaded footage of the game, even in its glory days, were weirdos who only uploaded shit that other FFXI weirdos wanted to see and knew what to look for. I was going to suggest you could look up a walkthrough of Garden of Ru'Hmet. It's a huge, mazelike dungeon that requires solving some obtuse puzzles over the course of several hours to get through. But I just checked myself and there aren't really any videos of the process.
