It is really difficult to be more interesting than one of the best written VNs in the history of VNs. Seriously each route following the boy cripple and his pals from Yamaku Academy as they live with assorted disabilities has been distinguishable from the others. Aside from the beautiful imagery, the series’ only consistency has been its amazing OST and effective use of editing transitions , all to make friendships seem friendly , to make love seem real.

Perhaps the die was cast when Suriko vetoed the idea of a Rin foot job scene; he made sure the series would never be mistaken for a fetish content , just ridiculously wholesome stories. The Katawa Shoujo series might be anti-Christian (or not), but it’s certainly the anti-James Bond series in that it is actually good.

I'm playing Steins;Gate and have got the suzuha, faris, luka, and mayuri endings. To get the kurisu and true endings, I understand I need to make sure I reach the end with some and all of the true ending flags, and I've got a guide pointing out what I need to do and when.

It sounds a bit tedious though to go all the way back through. If I skip and leave it, will it stop skipping when I reach a true ending flag, or do I have to keep my eyes constantly glued to it as I skip through the entire game to make sure I pause at just the right moment to not miss a flag?

Thats why you have the strangest dialogue in certain games and totally unrelatable characters(Sakura Matou for example). KS on the other hand was written by people who have that social experience to draw on. Its rich and accurate in its portrayal of human relations and social conduct. This makes it infinitely more relatable.

Depends how important you want choices. If you want some choose your own adventure thing with a billion different routes you're in the wrong genre, a lot of the time choices are just there to facilitate the early route split and to add some bad/alternate endings. Higurashi and Umineko sound like what you'd want but they don't have choices at all, they're just stories but in VN format with graphics and sound (Umineko's OST is god tier, if you don't read it at least listen to the OST). There's a site called VNDB in case you didn't know, you can look at the most popular/highly rated stuff there and look at the genre tags
