How? Nintendo has made solid platformers since it's inception and Sony has only tried to replicate everything it's done, same goes for them making Ratchet and Clank and trying to make their own "Mario 64" Nintendo has some of the most solid and fun games to exist, especially platformers.

Honestly I found most of 1 (the original) to be pretty easy, the save system is dumb but I just used save states between levels.
