Why did Valve abandon Source engine?
Why did Valve abandon Source engine?
because they're making source 2
Source 2?
>why invest millions on research
>if you could just exploit developers and sell players info to the chinks without wasting tons of money
Even though i love source its outdated
Because they are working on Sauce 2 for HL3 haha
It will be an Index launch title.
Source 2 + Workshop = New Era in Indie games
because it doesn't support dx12
Source? as far as i know, they released artifact and that's it.
Dota 2 is running on Source 2
Why did Valve abandon gaming?
In pursuit of hardware.
Honestly, Steam drones, has Valve made anything successful in the past few years?
>Steam machines? Flop
>Steam controllers? Flop
>SteamOS? Flop
>Steam Link? Flop
>Shartifact? You better believe that was a flop
>Source 2? Not even made to even be a flop
>Steam Videos? Flop
>Steam VR? Fired devs
I mean you guys realise Epic makes a HUGE profit off of UE4 royalties, right? Why isn't Valve making a huge profit off of Source 2?
Answer: Literally the only money they make is from rent controlling other peoples games like a corrupt landlord, and that's gonna end soon.
I doubt Valve gives any fucks about Microsoft's proprietary APIs now. They have been pushing Vulkan and Linux stuff a lot.
CSGO and TF2 are still source1
i think some of the new vr games coming might also be source
Because they make way more money from Steam than their own games. Billions more.
Because they realize that PC gaming needs to get away from microsoft as soon as possible before they inevitably do something retarded.
Hence why they invested in hardware and Proton.
Steam controllers are alright Link is great and Dota has been running on source 2 for years
Other shit is dead though yeah
I mean, this post is pretty ironic when you consider people complain that Valve spends too much money on research and not enough on game development.
You do realize that Valve is literally the leading developer behind VR technology, an entirely new physics engine (Rubikon), and Vulkan API, right?
Better SFM porn with Source 2
Why are you responding to the Epic shill? He posts that copypasta in literally every PC Gaming thread.
2 points have been added to your social credit score.
never felt source was that widely used outside of Valve games
only other game I can think of using it is Dark Messiah
titanfall
Divine Cybermancy is another one
VtMB
They needed to make source 2 and then not make any games for it so that when they make source 3 it looks like more of an improvement compared to their old games. Source 3 = hl3 confirmed.
insurgency
Source is good it's just hammer that sucks ass
Plenty of games use source.
Source?
They didn't. CSGO and TF2 are still in Source and still very actively supported. They're slowly back-porting various Source 2 features to Source as needed for this games. DOTA2, SteamVR Home, the Aperture Robot Repair demo (featured in The Lab) are the only true Source 2 works they've released so far.
t. started using hammer last week and haven't even looked at the actual source code
Because half life was the only original ip valve actually came up with. They have no shareholders so they aren't incentivized to make as much money as poissible considering all the execs are already rich as fuck and can coast on valves borderline pcgaming monopoly. Also making a new AAA game by modern standards just doesn't work with the philosophy current valve has.
It's a shame valve hasn't taken any risks or innovations aside from hardware which no one really cares about.
>Honestly, Steam drones, has Valve made anything successful in the past few years?
Made money hand over fist so ruthlessly China needs three companies to try to snag the market share it needs.
>Source?
no, Source 2. hahahahaha
