I grew up with all Mario Karts on release, 64 has a good battle mode and a few decent tracks but that's where the positives end. The use of sprites for the racers is awful, it has the smallest roster of tracks to date, began the Spiny Shell bullshit (though to be fair it was used well in this game) and dropped Koopa Troops.
Thankfully the good tracks were salvaged and ported to better games. I'm not gonna pretend Block Fort isn't the best shit around, though
