HD DEFINITIVE GAME OF THE YEAR EDITION THREAD

What's the worst "Definitive Version" you've ever played and what's the best "HD Edition" you've ever played. Since everything made within the last 10 years is getting rereleased I need to know which ones to avoid

Silent Hill HD collection might forever be the worst. How you forget the fog in Silent Hill is baffling.

Best, I dunno. I know it's a meme to take screenshots of the bloom at full blast, but Wind Waker HD was great.

Gravity Rush was the best HD remake

I'm pretty sure literally every other one is arguable.

WWHD for instance looks like crap and is better off emulated.

>best
Beyond Good and Evil
Resi 4 (PC)
Zone of the Enders

MGS HD Collection was pretty good. As was ICO/SotC on PS3.
Like said, SH must be the worst one so far. It had so many technical errors and just baffling mistakes that really showed how incompetent Konami had become.

>MGS HD Collection was pretty good. As was ICO/SotC on PS3.
Literally no. Emulate or play on PS2.

Silent Hill is the worst by far. I think they lost the code for a good chunk of the originals and had to redo everything.

But its a very extreme example. Another good example is Bamham City re-release, which changed the engine and completely broken the lighting.

Elaborate or else no-one is going to listen to you if you have a valid point

Gamecube version is okay. The PC and HD console versions are broken as fuck.

Wind Waker HD is the ultimate in "I saw a screenshot and now it sucks forever in my mind". The bloom got toned down since the initial shots, shadows now actually exist unlike in the original, lighting in general got a really nice overhaul, the sky got improved pretty dramatically.

Most of what people cling to is the 'neon grass" and bloom which were a product of just pre production shots and that fact that side by sides look different because things actually cast shadows now. It's generally a flat asset improvement and nothing was ruined mood wise with the shader change like say the final battle in OoT 3ds was ruined.

That's not even beginning to mention the numerous gameplay improvements.

MGS has missing content and broken visuals.
SOTC plays like crap and Ico's textures are fucked up.

WWHD can look fine in screenshots when cherry picked, it's in motion where it falls apart because they got rid of the cel-shading so models look terrible.

You're also lying about the bloom, and this youtuber is nothing but a shill who will say anything new is better and doesn't care to make the original games better via emulation.
> and nothing was ruined mood wise with the shader change
That's outright bullshit, the entire color palette was changed for the worse. The game almost always looks wrong.

Odin Sphere leifthrasir is just straight up better than the original. Higher resolution and no lag

Don't listen to this fuck. The PS3 MGS HD collection is the definitive port with no issues and so is the Team Ico collection. This man is a buffoon.

>play Snake Eater at 15fps because the HD version doesn't have the nightmare minigame

Attached: big bahaha.gif (160x200, 1.94M)

Here's another 1:1 example. Implying the mood hasn't changed when the color palette is this fucked is just lying.

>MGS has missing content and broken visuals.
>SOTC plays like crap and Ico's textures are fucked up.
MGS HD is only missing some of the extra modes, but includes MG, MG2, MGS, MGS2, MGS3, MGS PW and MGS4, all of which are flawless enhanced ports. The bit with Ico and SotC running poorly and having fucked up textures is false.

worse - silent hill hd edition
best - resident evil hd remake
anything else is pretending or maymay tier

The RE4 HD Project is fucking perfect

I said it wasn't ruined, not changed. You're twisting my words to try and enforce "different is worse"

Post effects and some textures are busted in 2 and 3. Also no Tony Hawk, Ape Escape, and other things. Emulation is the way to go as usual.

>The bit with Ico and SotC running poorly and having fucked up textures is false.
You going to try to prove that? You're just parroting, anyone who has played SOTC on both PS2 and PS3 knows it runs like shit on PS3. The Ico bit is less known but the devs tiled textures so some areas look retarded, and Ico and SOTC are also missing post processing effects. It's arguably good in SOTC because it tones the bloom down and gets rid of distance blur(I'd argue that's bad personally) but it's a big downgrade for Ico because it gets rid of many of the color filters and the neato god rays.

It's definitely ruined. WW looked so good because of its vibrant colors and cel-shading which the remaster completely fucked up.

Nah, every version of Adventure has been worst than the last, because every port has been built off of the last port, compounding any issues the previous versions had while adding it's own issues.
There's mods to fix the PC version so it's as close to the Dreamcast original as possible (which they do a pretty good job of doing), but as far as official releases, the Dreamcast version is the only good one.

The only one I've played is MGS2HD and it looks far too sterile with all the removed effects and lack of motion blur.

Based Bluepoint

You call me a cherry picker when I posted a long ass video and this is your shit you're using?

You know as well as I do the context of that picture, a watch tower with a roof for shade, on an engine that now actually casts proper shadows, and that's where you went to grab your color comparison, a link in shade vs a link that never is.

Serious Sam HD is fucking ace.

Attached: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.jpg (1415x1000, 136K)

>can now get stuck in a T-pose
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAS SLAY BLUEPOINT

>You call me a cherry picker
Where did I say that? I said WWHD CAN look fine if you cherry pic, but in motion it looks like absolute crap especially during bossfights because of the lack of cel-shading and because of the bloom fucking everything up.

I really like how you're defending the fucked colors, blurry/bloomy presentation, and completely removed cel-shading by bringing up shadowing which added nothing to the game. Except apparently making shaded areas look even worse.

You can do the same kind of comparison on this image which has no shade. Or this image showing how night went from blue to green.

Only happens if you actively try to break the game.

Are you sure that's unique to the collection? The Uncharted games have always been pretty janky. I don't know how Naughty Dog got this reputation as the triplest of triple A studios.

>make everything blurry
>call it "HD"
What were they thinking?

You, I like.

Ico's port lacks the post processing meaning you don't see fog(present in the vast majority of the game), rain, lightning, or the screenspace god rays properly(or at all). And a lot of the areas lose their color because the bloom is gone. The bloom was used to shade a lot of the game. Then they "updated" textures by repeating them in some instances, making a bunch of areas look like some amateur "HD" modders got their hands on the game. Some effects like smoke were removed too, and the cool water splash effect was replaced with a very generic one. It was also only 30fps when they could have easily made it 60, because the engine was built for 60fps just like SOTC.

SOTC has one of the songs at the end of the game removed, there's no more distance blur, the bloom was toned down drastically, the color grading was adjusted or outright removed, and the grip and balance problems make gameplay significantly harder especially on hard and time attack modes. It's understandable why this game was kept at 30fps because even for the PS3 it would be hard to run, but the game can technically run at 60fps too.

You should emulate these games. You get the original vision and you can play both of them at 60fps if your CPU is up to the task.

Leifthrasir is a goddamn treasure, one of the few games I bothered to platinum.

They broke the shading on the models and fucked with the contrast on a lot of the textures, while adding a bunch of jpgs from Sonic X. The Dreamcast version is superior.

that was such a fucking mess
>get the people that are furthest from being SH fans to port over the games

Leifthrasir may as well be a straight up remake, honestly.

It's the first time we see Link in the game, so I'd say it's pretty important. In the WWHD version we're introduced to him with gray skin and green hair. "But it's just a bug with the shadows" is no excuse for a cutscene looking that bad, when the original looked fine.

>Emulate
PCSX2 is even more broken in MGS3.

Nope.

Yup, definitely not cherry picking.
Nothing about it looks weird to someone playing the game with context, it's literally just "Link is in shade like he should be" as oppose to a side by side with the original where he miraculously isn't. This entire argument is just "different is bad!"

Attached: comparison2.png (1295x692, 953K)

>Yup, definitely not cherry picking.
You realize that picture came from the video you linked right? Anyway you haven't yet tried to argue so I'll just reply once more.

1. WWHD ruins the entire color palette by washing everything out and completly changing hues.
2. WWHD removes the cel-shading. Bosses and enemies look like crap now.
3. WWHD adds insane amounts of bloom and blur. The shadows also do nothing for the game as characters look worse when in the shade.

Wwhd is fine.
Wwhd is cool.
