Skull Kid was also missing. There's been no new Zelda characters since Melee (Toon Link's still Link). The Moon was added as an AT from Majora's Mask. What did you think people were going to think? The whole chair thing is proof of the false expectations you create by not simply showing it off right off the bat. And the way you revealed it: "Yeah, it's on the website." You didn't even put it in the Direct. Why play with people's expectations like that?

They won't. FE will get a new rep for Smash 6, when the series representation has been trimmed from the roster. Sakurai is well aware of the backlash he received for Corrin's addition. Smash Ult got Chrom to appease fans he'd teased about it before because he could be easily implemented as an Echo and use up minimal resources.

There's no reason to assume that Joker was picked by Sakurai. Especially since Sakurai outright confirmed that Nintendo wanted Sakurai to reveal Joker first at the VGAs. Nintendo has a great relationship with Atlus, so it's obvious to see why Joker got in.

That's not really the point. Melee had Bowser, Mewtwo and Marth, who Sakurai already wanted to add in Smash 64. Ice Climbers got in over other NES characters solely due to their gimmick. Zelda/Sheik didn't place all too high either but both of them still got in. Then you have Mr. Game & Watch. The only character you could argue this poll influenced is Peach. But Peach is important as fuck for Nintendo, one of their most popular characters and probably the most iconic female video game character. She was likely getting in regardless of how high she placed.
