Seriously! Why do that? He held off the reveal of Skull Kid, Isaac and Shadow as assist trophies for the last possible moment and for what? To get us excited for their triumphant return?
Look, it's fine that they didn't add them due to time constraints or other reasons. It's Sakurai's game and he knows what he's doing. But why go through all this trouble?
Shadow's assist trophy was mysteriously missing from the Direct, website and gameplay. They added Knuckles. A precedent for 3rd party echo fighters was created. What did you think people were going to think?
Skull Kid was also missing. There's been no new Zelda characters since Melee (Toon Link's still Link). The Moon was added as an AT from Majora's Mask. What did you think people were going to think? The whole chair thing is proof of the false expectations you create by not simply showing it off right off the bat. And the way you revealed it: "Yeah, it's on the website." You didn't even put it in the Direct. Why play with people's expectations like that?
But, then there's Isaac... Oh boy... People have been begging for Isaac since 2001. He's been one of the most consistent character requests for years. You made him an AT in Brawl, but then, you remove him from Smash 4 and people, rightfully so, get suspicious. Are you planning something for him? Maybe DLC? That wasn't the case. But, then you reveal Ridley first, a long requested fighter. Then, you reveal K. Rool after that, another long requested fighter. And Isaac is yet to be seen. But, one of the screenshots in the website is layed out EXACTLY like a Golden Sun battle. What did you think people were going to think?
Sakurai really should apologize to the fans, this kind of behaviour is really unacceptable and unprofessional for someone like him. I really hope he retires after this game.
