What do y'all think about the Overwatch league and esports in general?

why do so many people watch this when apparently no one plays the game?

Yea Forums has been saying the game is dying for 2 years now. Never listen to people here tbqh.

The rule of thumb is if Yea Forums is seething over a game constantly then it's probably good. Just do the opposite of the hive mind here. I mean have you seen how angry breath of the wild makes some of these people?

OWL isn't sustainable and Blizzard went full retard franchising it immediately instead of allowing a grassroots scene that already existed thrive.

Very boring to watch

The OWL was a mistake, the devs fisted it down everyones throats and as a result of that, development of the game took a back seat. The game went from fun experience to a massive headache, new characters are there to fix the meta first rather than being added for fun.

Because it's less painful to just watch the game.

I tried to watch it once to see what it was like. There's way too much shit going on, on screen because of the deluge of particle effects and terrible choice of cameras to follow what the fuck is going on.

>new characters are there to fix the meta
Bullshit, Baptiste just gave more wings to the goats

>e-sports in general

Acceptable, if not a bit lame. Not as good as real sports and people need to stop pretending it's ever going to be a worthwhile analogue or even comparable conceptually but acceptable.

>OWL

Forced garbage, popularity of the base game and developer injecting loads of money does not a good e-sport make.

Really? Shit here I thought that Blizzard was trying to exterminate GOATS

People still play Overwatch?

It's a $400 MILLION forced esports league that has consistently lost in viewership to one guy playing Fortnite.

The game itself is incredibly fucking boring to watch. The spectator camera just floats around in third person while two teams of tanks and supports fling themselves at each other until their auto-aim abilities get kills midst the incomprehensible spam of particle effects. Compare this to CSGO where every single play is watched from a player's perspective, we get to see skillful headshots and well-timed team entry executions decide the round, etc.

That's how I felt. How did normies like conan o brian play this without dying in 10 seconds each life?

Does anyone have that image of Jeff Kaplan saying he wishes players would stop being so toxic, because the team is having to devote mass resources to developing report/karma systems instead of implementing features? I remember he basically indirectly said that the reason there was no role queue was because that team was working on toxicity now.

There's nothing wrong with esports in general. You only hate it because you're mediocre and seeing people be good at games you play makes you feel bitter and inadequate.

Overwatch is of course shit though

the owl is unbearable to watch
>they literally try to teach the audience the basics of the game while watching the highest level of play
>announcers literally never stop talking
>each team is named after a location yet all are at a minimum 50% korean
>plat chat actually thinks OWL applies to their diamond games

I could understand the censorship here because they broadcast to a children's channel

>You only hate it

I said it was acceptable if not a bit lame, I don't hate it at all.

Did you even read my post?

Attached: ho ho holy shit.jpg (1043x732, 52K)

Or I think it's retarded to treat a game that seriously. Like, move into a house with your fagmates just so you can play together type of retardation.

>each team is named after a location yet all are at a minimum 50% korean
I have honestly got the point of that.
Like from what I remember the London team was owned by an American company, was made up of Koreans and lived in the US.
What's the point of having regional based teams if you aren't gonna play in those locations?

the fact is games need shitters to survive, if they have data that shows shitters are being discouraged then they have to do something about it.

I think OW is an inherently toxic game though as you are dependent upon teammates for success.

that the tier 2 scene its not on tv and hardly people watch it. its so poor that one of the teams are called "Path to Poverty" because they call it the path to pro and one of the teams are called "Delete brigette" an OP character in the game

this guy plays jrpgs and nintendo games

e-sports is literally everything wrong with modern gaming. it shouldn't exist. literally ALL of e-sports would stop existing if incels could just have sex.

esports are a cancer upon multiplayer corrupting it from what should be a thing to when you feel like it to a chore that takes away player choice and makes it feel like closer to a job, where the focus goes from playing until you get tired or bored to beyond that point by shoving the ranking totem dildo up you ass and showing off to everyone your stupid imaginary rank while your gradually enjoying it less and hating yourself more because your not playing the game because you want to play it, your playing it for a stupid number. everything from the toxicity of these games is direct result of the design choices of the multiplayer infrastructure of competitive games and no one wants to fucking admit it am I only the one that sees the absolute insanity in this and everyone else is blind?

Attached: guil.jpg (480x360, 33K)

CSGO is a much slower paced game. Plus terrorism vs counter-terrorism aspect of it pushes sponsors away.

the grassroots scene was stomped out by them like almost immediately upon launch because private tournaments were running their own custom rulesets that did actual beneficial shit to make the game play better like having payload on a timer and banning all 2cp maps
and obviously this makes blizzard looks like incompetent clowns, so rather than fix it they sent legal threats to any nonsponsored org trying to run ow tournaments and enforced their own dogshit ruleset
just some of the genius-level business decisions coming out of the same company that has run the exact same game into the ground since then

>he hasn't seen the chads that play CS

The Overwatch pro scene is so high level!
It's incredible!

Attached: mykl bustclip.webm (960x540, 2.98M)

that's not fair CS is only an e-sport because of its age. if CS came out today it would struggle to maintain a playerbase

Last time they attempted to exterminate the goats, they nerfed the armor and *buffed* reaper

I didn't work

Pasha is a roidmonkey. Quake is the real chad sport. Pic related, #2 best quake player of all time.

It's interesting how a lot of CS and Quake players were originally really good at sports but had to quit due to injury.

I remember n0thing said something about this on the Joe Rogan podcast, that FPS players tend to be more athletic

youtube.com/watch?v=gPPFhL_g5Mo

Modern Blizzard is comprised of diversity hires who don't play video games that aren't available on their phone, so nobody had the chance to tell marketing that you don't just "become an esport" without an authentic grassroots start with the playerbase as its catalyst. The result is Blizzard dumping money into a lost cause and wondering why kids don't like the Overwatch.

Attached: bl6z22xn7hn21.png (686x386, 261K)

I believe it because I have terrible aim and I also have the coordination of a baby deer on ice when doing physical activities.

It's not an excuse for being bad at games mind you, I'm not bad, I'm just okay at fps, I just know I have terrible hardware for it.

nah WoW pros are the chadest players

Attached: images.jpg (318x159, 9K)

Back when I used to play CS semi seriously I would do bicep curls each time I died during a round.
Still kinda do similar to this day with push ups and losses in fighting games.

>i-i-its my hardware
I play on a cracked black and white television in a war zone on a snes controller and I'm GE in CS. you just suck kid

I think overwatch could be used as a great lesson of how NOT to design a first person shooter. If an indie developer pushed out OW the game would have died within weeks. Everything about the game screams amateur dev team.

the OWL is what happens when you force a game that is non-competitive to be competitive. You get a shitshow. OW devs are desperate to shill Esports so they do whatever they can to force up viewer numbers. It's all pointless. Nobody knows how to "fix" the game. Every time there's a meta somebody wants a new meta. No meta can ever slake the OW community. Other games can have 1 singular meta for 15 years with no complaints, but if OW has a meta for more than 2 weeks the community loses their shit. the Meta is a red herring. The game is fundamentally boring so everyone is scrambling to find the right balance update to make the game fun to watch.

The frantic balance changes show that OW devs don't even know what they want out of the game. In any other game, ANY OTHER FUCKING FIRST PERSON SHOOTER. The devs acknowledge that some options will be superior to others. They don't sweat this. Nobody is clamoring to "balance" the AUG in CSGO so it gets more show time. But in OW everybody wants their hero to be better.
"Nerf Rock, Paper is fine" - Scissors. If the Devs could tell their community (politely) to fuck off, we would all be better off. No, hanzo can't be meta. Hanzo is shit and will remain shit. In fact, once you accept this. You can stop worrying about making every hero viable, and instead focus on making the game FUN

I could say more but it would end up being like 5 posts long. FUCK this game sucks ass

Attached: OverwatchChart.png (800x1000, 18K)

>both teams playing the exact same composition
is it still 3 tanks 3 healers?
you couldnt pay me to watch that shit

Attached: LEEEEOOOOON.png (479x562, 251K)

>Nobody is clamoring to "balance" the AUG in CSGO so it gets more show time
Have you literally not being paying attention to CS in the last 3 months?

this

I haven't. But the point is the same. People ACCEPT the m4/ak/awp meta. and it doesn't bother most anyone. In fact, I would argue that if a community keeps asking for balance changes it means they've grown tired of the game and want freshness the game can't provide via depth.

You really might wanna see what happened with the AUG before saying stuff. Current meta is almost all AUG.

cypher is #2,

fatal1ty > rapha > cooller > evil > cypher

I have the stream open on a firetv-stick to farm the tokens just in case I start playing again. Never actually watched it

League of Legends is unironically the only modern game that got e-sports right

OWL was trash since OW is only barely complex enough to qualify as a competitive game, this makes matches boring and repetitive since strategies are almost always the same (dive, 2/2/2, etc) and there's no character progression too

Rocket League did a better job than LoL did.
Fuck franchising.

>League of Legends is unironically the only modern game that got e-sports right
Uhh, you mean the devs who fined a team for banning 5 support characters against a female team that Riot wanted to win?

Dota 2 is the only major esport worth watching. FGC and Melee are fun to watch as well.

I watched two matches today. It was weird, but it seems like both teams where mirroring each other for the most part. And yet one was always much better than the other.
Oh and I always thought the game was a shooter lol turns out it’s some kind of first person action game that doesn’t involve much hard aiming like counter strike

Overall I didn’t really like watching it. I have to give them one thing, the game looks like it plays very smooth and that’s a thumbs up from me

I'd agree but also add CS to that list.

by "the only game that got e-sports right" I meant the following

People actually care about the competitive scene, they have famous teams (Samsung White, Fnatic, Cloud9), they have famous players (Faker, Bjergsen), it's actually a fairly complex game, with character progression and numerous team combinations, metagame and strategies change almost every patch, drastically changes between seasons

what can you say about OWL ? I only remember how almost every player is korean besides the majority of the teams being named after US states, xQc and autist dramas like banning someone because of twitch emotes

that's just bad sportsmanship
it's like how the players get fined in the nfl for showboating and a 15 yard penalty

It's plays like a turd but has the polish of a recently waxed linoleum floor.

No player would get fined for doing something within the rules. I don’t play lol but if banning 5 supports is bad then how about the programmers don’t allow it?

>they have famous teams (Samsung White, Fnatic, Cloud9), they have famous players (Faker, Bjergsen)
I have no idea who any of those are besides Fnatic and Cloud9 which I don't know from LoL.

Hello literal actual Riot shill. Enjoying your p2w game? Those sunk costs sting?

I tried to look it up and I can't find anything saying they were fined.

>Dota 2
>CSGO
>Fighting games
>Quake
Kino
>every other game trying to be esports
Cringe

Attached: 1544839758296.jpg (1503x837, 215K)

I still remember when Shroud made a Tweet about how shitty the OWL was. He was then crucified by the players, viewers and commentators of the League that he actually had to take time out of his day to explain what he meant ...by that I meant that he said the League was shit again but he said it in a kinder manner

Watched a bit of it a few days back, why does everyone play the same "3-3" comp? I don't follow meta since I only play Mystery Heroes

That meta's called GOATS.
It was used by some C-Tier team or some shit and became a pretty unstoppable comp that the only way to counter it is going Goats as well. 3 tanks, Rein, Zarya and Dva, and 3 supports Brig, Zen and Lucio. Basically the no-aim meta which sucks.
>Mystery Heroes
My man. Truly the only mode worth playing.

What about Broodwar?

Yeah that's kino too
SC2 is cringe tho

>all those empty seats

OWL in general is great and only "esport" i bother to watch. Not this season though, aside from first matches - because every match is exactly the same with retarded GOATS

>Yea Forums is filled with a bunch of contrarians that do it for attention and would rather bite off their own tongues than admit it

wow who woulda thought

Gamers have become even more toxic than when he was playing EverQuest.
He's out of the loop now, too old to and busy to really experience societal decay.

Overwatch HAS been dying for 2 years. I have a friends list of 300+ I all met on Overwatch in ranked games, currently I checked and 2 are playing overwatch.

No one thinks about overwatch league

haha you have to be extremely stupid to still waste your time on this pointless and unfun garbage

I've played overwatch for over a thousand hours before I quit recently and even I'm not delusional enough to say it's good. For most people it's more addiction than enjoyment at this point.

Most braindead people which is most of the playerbase play the game to get skins as if that means anything since they need to achieve something and that's the only thing they can. Others just go in quickplay, the worst game mode and others only reinstall during pve events which are so short its not worth the trouble.

You are correct, it's an addiction to get points and climb. A ton of blizzdrones rebuy the game constantly. Wish they would die.
If you play competitive you're going to waste a 100+ hours of your life each season and your health and for what? to increase 500 points with their shitty matchmaking or most likely lose 500 when you've had enough and break? And its the opposite in quick play, nobody tries and it's not fun to play at all with nothing on the line.

To validate the time when they played it.

they get free skins just for watching on twitch and it's why their "league" has more than a thousand viewers.
thats their thing, thats why they even play the game, to get skins

Nice ESPORTS.

Summit those essay tomorrow

when the poster said "hardware" he was talking about his body, his mind, his natural abilities. He wasn't talking about his computer.

This. It's such an abomination. I haven't played the game in almost two years, but I actually watched S1 of OWL because some of the compositions and plays intrigued me. Now it's an unwatchable, frustrating clown fiesta of Q's. Such mechanical skill has gone to waste and the Blizzard sycophants continue to praise this stale meta for its 'complexity'. GOATS infuriates me on a spiritual level.

Tokens.

it's viewbotted and padded, I'd bet the real number is around 20-15k which is borderline average for such event

This is what happens when you make a fps based around infinite ammo and cooldowns

>y'all
fuck off

>toxic
kill yourself
