The Caligula Effect Overdose

Is anybody playing this game? It came out a few days ago and its pretty ok and based

I played it forever ago on Vita and found it boring.

Played it back when the Asian release came out. Liked it enough to 100% compete it

>its pretty ok and based
But is it based AND redpilled?

>Insulting the majority of gamers
I will not support this anti-consumer practice

>the shitty remake with butchered art style
Lol no thanks.

Persona?

Actually Mifue's and Sweet-P's arc isn't really the one that insults people who play video games

It's from the lead creator/director/writer of Persona, yeah.
And with music by the original composer of SMT games.

*good remake with a improved art style
You have not actually played the Vita version

I have a vita, but might be getting a switch if it actually gets persona 5. Only after the redesign though.
Should I play this now or wait? Is it even a good game lads?

Attached: image6.jpg (4032x3024, 1.74M)

>50 bongbucks for this old ass remake
>65 for the DLC(including male swimsuit garbage)
I am going to wait for a 70% sale

Yes I have, get cancer and die.
Literally all the visual effects from the Vita version are gone and even textures are drastically downgraded, UI got completely butchered.
Give me 5 minutes and I'll post comparison, or just check /hbg/ since I already posted it here

>shitch
Laugh at this man

Attached: 1551633199119.png (238x288, 111K)

Nigger I posted PC 4K screenshots as well, they are visually identical barring resolution.
PC is missing all the effects from Vita as well.

Ill pick it up when it gets cheaper. I dont want to spend 40 dollars for some vita remake. The new female protagonist is pretty cute though.

Attached: CEO Protags.png (600x686, 239K)

I watched the anime like 3 days ago, saw the plot twist coming from episode 2, if the game is anything like the anime then it's shit.

They rid of that garbage noise filter because people hated it, they also made the game playable now instead of a slideshow

>not having CFW
Game drops frames because it runs underclocked at laughable 222mhz profile for whatever reason on Vita instead of at full clock speed.
With CFW you can force full speed and it never drops frames.

>They rid of that garbage noise filter because people hated it
Citation needed, not to mention they got rid of far more than that and that "filter" (it's real time shading like in Valkyria Chronicles, not a filter) is integral part of the worldbuilding, eat shit.

Original (Soul)

Attached: Caligula Original.jpg (1920x1632, 3.03M)

Remake (Soulless)

Attached: Caligula Remake.jpg (1920x1632, 2.43M)

Can I get Mirei to step on me in this version?

gonna get it on my nintendo bitch.
oops! i meant switch!

>just hack your vita and the game becomes good all of a sudden!
hahhahaahahhah still a fucking garbage slideshow

>Citation needed
People who played the game, the noise filter makes it look like complete dogshit you fucking retard. Nevermind the shitty vita version does't have any of the exclusive content which is the best part of the game. That "integral part" of the worldbuilding didn't even exist, otherwise the devs wouldn't have changed it

I'll take the soulless version if it means not having the frames drop to 5fps in battle

Wow the switch version is actually worse looking overall than the vita version not even counting the worse artstyle. How did they make it higher res yet turn it into a blurry mess? On pc at least it looks OK even if the art style has been killed.
>With CFW you can force full speed and it never drops frames.
Guess I'll just give this game a go on vita. Especially if overclocking makes it run decent. Not like it will cost me anything.

>hahhahaahahhah still a fucking garbage slideshow
Except I literally just explain that isn't the case if you're not a moron and spend 10 minutes hacking Vita.

And the noise effect among others is part of the story you fucking retard because they are stuck in an INCOMPLETE VIRTUAL WORLD THAT'S SUPPOSED TO REFLECT IT'S UNFINISHED STATE WITH VISUAL CORRUPTION AND ARTIFACTS YOU FUCKING MORON AND IT'S LITERALLY >>>THE

You can be stuck in a virtual world without it looking like ass.

Look at Death End re:Quest.

And what fucking exclusive content?
A literal gender swap that has 99,99% same dialogue? It's not like FeMC in Persona 3 Portable, the female route is almost completely identical in Caligula Remake.
And the "Villain Route" is a post-game where you just redo all the dungeons backwards with minimal exposition, it's literally less content than Snow Queen Quest in Persona 1.
The remake is definition of a soulless cashgrab.

Is this a virtual novel game?

Game is pretty good. Very flawed but the god tier art and music is worth at least one playthrough. More if you like the game since the two genders have route splits like P3P.

It's a Persona 1/2 style game with a Persona 4/5-style combat system.

> the female route is almost completely identical in Caligula Remake.
>two genders have route splits like P3P
Who do I believe

Finished 2nd Dungeon last night, it's alright

Hmm, that sounds interesting. I may look further into this in that case.

original: distracting and gimmicky
remake: clean, just works

There are some differences, but they are mostly gender stuff.
For starters, Caligula has no real romances, you just friendzones everyone because there's ~530 students in total and you don't get skills from level ups but from friending other students in a giant skilltree similar to FF10's Sphere Grid where each student represents a skill.

The story is interesting but the gameplay seems like it will get old quick. I'm playing on the hard difficulty and I'm just mashing X and auto. I wish they would give Tadashi a game with a budget or bring him back to persona.

She's pretty cute and I don't even like short hair

Attached: Female_Protagonist_Chibi.jpg (320x320, 12K)

You know zoomers post ITT when they call the minimalistic souless remake better.

Sounds interesting? How's the writing? Its a Tadashi game after all

Just grab it on Switch

please tell me performance isn't complete garbage or at least better than Vita

Still have to finish Star Ocean: Till the End of Time, Star Ocean: The Last Hope and Exist Archive. Also it'll be available for 25 Euro or less soon. I prefer to wait.

dbhdfhdh

What do you think about asparagus?

samefag

I'd say it's far more interesting than Persona 1 and SMT If... but not as interesting as Persona 2 and Digital Devil Saga.
One of the big twists is that everyone looks like a teenager in the game's virtual world but in reality many of them are adults with a shitload of serious adult baggage.
Also it has similar premise to Digital Devil Saga 1 where everyone is stuck in a virtual world, but only your main cast starts recovering memories of who they were before they got stuck in the virtual world and as such you begin a journey to get out.
There's other school clubs (like clans in DDS1) that will hinder your way.
And the figure ruling over it is an angelic pseudo Hatsune Miku.

the actual route split isn't based on gender, it's whether or not you choose to do the musician route. it's not much of a route split, though, because the game gives you every incentive to do it and no incentive not to:
>you get the full story, not just half
>you don't actually have to pick a side until the end; you spend most of the game as a double agent working for both sides
>the best possible ending is gated behind the musician route
>the musicians have character events just like the go-home club members, and (imo) they're more interesting and likeable than the go-home club
i'm finishing up the 5th dungeon right now and i can already tell i'd be enjoying this game a lot less if i didn't choose the musician route.

No to both, see

Is there a way to add the vita effects back in yet?I wonder how it would look at proper framerates and bigger resolutions.

Here's how to play Caligula:
Vita original (preferably on CFW Vita so you can get good framerate) for main story and original intended ending.
Remake on PC for the new Ostinato villain route that basically acts as this game's Snow Queen Quest if you're familiar with Persona 1.

>PS4/PC/Switch all have the exact same fucked up visual changes the original vita game didn't have

How fucking hard was it to port the original damn game and its engine to the more powerful platforms?

BBBBUT MUH UNREAL ENGINE 4
Also outsourced the remake to China

How the fuck do you manage to make the Switch version look worse while having worse effects?

What the fuck man

As someone who really enjoyed P1 then I need to play this game. Thanks user.
Good to know about this

The UE4 version looks exactly the same on all three platforms so even the PC version looks like shit.

i'm playing it on switch too, i'm five dungeons in, and here's my impression so far:
don't bother playing this in portable mode at all. it's pretty much unplayable.
in docked mode, there's still severe framerate issues in two of the first five dungeons. outside of that, it's tolerable performance-wise.
graphically, it's been downgraded severely from the other two versions, which is obvious just from looking at the character models.
i wish i got it on ps4 instead, but i'm too far in to want to start all over again and i'm enjoying the game despite the quirks.

It's handheld mode.
Handheld mode runs at 240p with shitload of Temporal AA.
Docked runs at 540p with shitload of Temporal AA.
Switch version is generally awful and I don't recommend it.
If you want to play the remake, get PS4 or PC version.

You're welcome, I still say that the first playthrough should be experienced on Vita due to all the artistic (and some story/script) changes between original and remake.
If someone has access to both, it's best to play original route on Vita and then the villain Ostinato route in remake to get the complete package.

>zoomers playing niche jrpgs that their favorite streamer isn't playing

They are the ones that just watch the anime adaptations

Oh yeah and speaking of story script, I was extremely positively surprised to see that the remake uses ATLUS USA's script from the Vita version as base for the remake's translation, only changing and adding stuff that was changed or added in the remake.
The translation is for the major part word-for-word.

>another extremely mediocre game from a year + ago comes to switch and suddenly switch owners act like it's good and totally brand new.

It's funny every time it happens.

If ya read the thread switch version is being shat on m8

also, another note on the musician route: it becomes available after the second dungeon. there's a portal near where mu's stage from the beginning of the game is that initiates it.

I don't care about which version is superior right now.
Is the game good?
Is it worth spending money on?
Should I get this or Death end re;Quest?

More like all versions that not the vita. The only way to bring back the original style is through modding and good luck with that.

in reality: it's a multiplat (also on pc and ps4), the remake is objectively better due to the qol improvements and added content, and everyone is criticizing the switch port's graphics and performance. please take the console war bullshit elsewhere.

go away Todd

Yes
60$ is a bit ovepriced so pirate or wait for discount
This has a serious story, Death end re;Quest is unironic weebshit

>wanted to buy this on switch
>apparently looks and runs like dogshit

>Should I get this or Death end re;Quest?
honestly, get both if you can. they're both really good. i finished death end a couple weeks ago and had a lot of fun with the battle system.

>Death end re;Quest
Is this in the semicolon series?

I just started the game and I am enjoying it a little. Is there anything i need to do to unlock character events? I finished the school area the only event available was the kid with the glasses. The others unlock automatically or do i need to keep spamming them with asparagus questions in chat?

>the remake is objectively better
Except it isn't, it's more of a sidemake because it has new content and QoL but completely rapes the art style.
Also the redone anime scenes are worse for the most part in the remake.
MC doesn't even have a nose in the remake's cutscenes.

More events will become available as you progress through the story, provided their affinity is high enough

I don't think WIRE questions raise affinity though, pretty sure it's just through battles

character events unlock after you finish dungeons. also, characters will often have more than one character event to do at a time.

>asparagus
What the fuck is with this game's obsession with it anyway?

>first you must buy a shitty vita and waste time hacking it, then the vita from becomes good for it not to be a literal slideshow
Hahahahahaha okay buddy

And that noise looked like shit? Point? Maybe if the devs wanted it, they would have kept it huh?

>A literal gender swap that has 99,99% same dialogue? It's not like FeMC in Persona 3 Portable, the female route is almost completely identical in Caligula Remake.
Why the fuck are you lying? Nevermind that's not in the vita version.
>And the "Villain Route" is a post-game where you just redo all the dungeons backwards with minimal exposition, it's literally less content than Snow Queen Quest in Persona 1
>lying and saying it's post game
>ignoring it gives more exposition to the musicians and that everything relating to Eji and the new musicians subplot is the best written content in the game
lmao but mad that they changed the sky white

Attached: 1551998895936.png (1045x1500, 716K)

>smug anime girl pic
>types like an underage
>extremely dumb
Checks out.

what's actually dumb is making up lies about games you've never played, in a thread full of people who have played them, and expecting to fool anyone.

It is. The vita version is literal dogshit

>Shitch Nintentoddlers shilling a washed up Vita shovelware as if it's something hot and spicy
lmao

Ignore vita shills, they will lie and twist truth.

Attached: 1552350625670.png (348x278, 106K)

Ignore Shitch shills, they will lie and twist truth.

JEEEZUS. I'll have to look at this game, too

no

Otaku/neckbeards enjoy being insulted by a cute girl

it's on pc and ps4 too and everyone's shitting on the switch port.

enjoy your cinematic film grain and even more cinematic 10fps while the rest of us play the definitive version of the game, then.

>Should I get this or Death end re;Quest?

As someone who has played Death end re;Quest and Caligula (on Vita), go with Death end re;Quest.

>can't romance anyone
Why play a persona clone if you're just gonna get blueballed

Persona didn't have romances before 3.
This is from the creator of the ones before 3.

persona actually did have romances before 3. they just worked differently because persona didn't have social links yet back then.
honestly, though, the "persona clone" label is doing a disservice to caligula. it's doing its own thing.

But it's extremely similar to Persona in more ways than one.

Post lewd pictures of the lolis and I might consider it.

There are none.
All characters in the game look 16-18 because they're stuck in virtual high school.

Saw the anime recently which was pretty good and i don't want to fork out $80 for a Persona/Chaos;head/SAO rip off, even if it looks like fun

Okay

A Sonyfag's opinion has no value.
KYS faggot.

KYS Nintentoddler :)

>Tfw just bought the switch version
>Tfw everyone is calling the switch one the worst
FUG

Attached: 1552666946123.jpg (620x525, 137K)

All fat people I’ve ever known are really shitty people.

The soul saving grace, at least in my opinion, is that at least as a villain your costume looks great. It's a shame the entire route isn't worth it. It was such a cool idea too.

Death End is better. The story and characters in this game really suck, and it's disappointing as hell because they kind of trick you into thinking something interesting will happen as you unravel this arson case that involves characters from both sides of the conflict but it ends suddenly with the villain dying off screen breaking someone's fall and no one but the MC ever knowing how interconnected it was. Then you get railroaded into the same shitty story from the original game.

I thought it did that thing most japanese games with a heavy female cast do, where they all have ship tease moments with your bland protagonist ass so you can go "maybe something will happen in the FUTURE"

Aren't they all the same? In terms of changes in art style I mean

Lol nice try, I played both the vita and ps4 Asian release day one. Nothing about the vita version is better. It looks like shit, runs like shit, and you don't get any of the new better content.

I keep hearing the frame rate and the resolution are worst for switch

Attached: IMG_20190314_233858.jpg (445x365, 30K)

>This is from the creator of the ones before 3.
wait, what?

He wrote P1 and the P2s games

I'm a PC gamer, cuck.

There's also the composer who worked in a few older smt games iirc

Framerate is worst on Vita unless you use CFW.
Resolution is worst on Switch no matter what you do.
Switch docked runs at lower resolution than Vita in handheld, let that sink in.
Quality NISA port.

Satomi Tadashi, the director and writer of Persona 1, Persona 2 Duology and Digital Devil Saga Duology.

Who made the art?
It looks fucking great

Attached: caligula-effect-feature.jpg (1200x675, 173K)

Lying vita shill. The musician "route" is must play.

FUG looks like I'm out 50 dollars
Might as well play it

I bet it must feel like shit to know that your series took off after you stopped working on it

Does the game employ a dynamic resolution on Switch? Got any numbers on docked/handheld mode? Are they both identical?

Mifue is best girl

Attached: fatties btfo.webm (900x506, 2.85M)

Bought the Collector's Edition off PlayAsia when it got released a few months back. Haven't finished it (thanks, Tokyo Xanadu) but the artwork and music are God-Tier. Everything else is a mixed bag and the Western release was handled buy (((NISA))) so expect a butchered script and game breaking bugs if you buy it

Persona 2 is universally acclaimed among SMT fans though.

Nope, static resolutions.
240p handheld / 540p docked both with a lot of temporal AA to cover the low res jaggies.
Vita for comparison is 544p so slightly above Switch docked lol

>540p docked
How? This shit isn't even demanding

Jesus. That's gotta be a bug. I gotta get my hands on this. Thanks a lot, user. Glad the Switch is here to provide some interesting differences between platforms
You sure it's 544 on VIta, not 408 or something?

>Eric is already shitting up threads about this game

What a time to be alive.

Unreal Engine 4, Switch doesn't really handle it well.
Nintendo's own first party Yoshi game runs at ~540p dynamic that almost never reaches the 720p target in docked mode and runs at like 308p in handheld.

How is it on Switch? I'm selling my PS4, but I still prefer consoles for weeb shit. Especially handhelds.

>Persona 2 is universally acclaimed among SMT fans though.
Kek

God damn SMT V is fucked then. What were they thinking?

>You sure it's 544 on VIta, not 408 or something?
Yeah I'm sure, heck you can count pixels yourself.
It's one of the reasons behind the bad performance of Vita version, the second one is the fact it runs underclocked for whatever dumb reason.

>Persona 2 is universally acclaimed among SMT fans though.

Oh come on. There's nobody left who believes that nonsense anymore.

Go to /smtg/ or r/Megaten and see where you in the pecking order, zoomers

why can't real girls be this perfect

The GPU is at 111mhz? Dang. Thanks a lot for the help, user

So is the problems with the port just lolNISA?

Both the ps4 and pc version are fine. If you get the switch version of anything you are retarded.

I generally prefer having RPGs on a handheld though, I think it'd be fine at a lower price honestly.

Stay mad.
;^ )

Stop being autistic, P2 killed the series till P3 and P1 was much much better than P2

>Persona 2 is universally acclaimed among SMT fans though.
lmao

Absolutely perfect

You mean Kagura

Attached: Suzuna_Kagura_Catharsis.jpg (800x1343, 194K)

Nah, 222mhz, still pretty low.

How many Malcolm MacDowell references are in the game?

At what?

Original has nice contrast.
Remake is kind of washed out and way too grey, UI is trying its hardest to get the Persona audience.

Is PS4 censored? Genuine question since I own all console + pc

No, Mifue.

Attached: 1524440226184.jpg (1920x1080, 86K)

>P2 killed the series
You mean P3 killed the series by selling worse than Persona 1, until they re-released it with more waifu events and sexy costumes.

The most lewd this game gets is on the swimsuits and they weren't changed.

>tfw can't date this cute fatty hating girl

Move her to persona please

Attached: 1546226110443.jpg (711x620, 52K)

P3 sold much better than both p1 and 2 if you count international

There is no censorship at all, they even used ATLUS USA's script from Vita for the most part.

I don't know why.

it's not that good of a game and it's not Switch Exclusive.

Where?

Should i?

Attached: IMG_20190315_201529.jpg (3968x2976, 2.82M)

More I think about it, this game doesn't really seem like a $50 game. I think a better price would probably be $30. At that I could basically overlook the problems with the game and maybe even the problems with the Switch version.

Yes

Same

Enjoy your 240p

She's voiced by Sawashiro if that helps.

Can girls bang girls here?

why is every revised/updated/HD/remake of a game washed out as fuck? is contrast not ok in modern times?

This. I'm a fat fuck and just picked up the game. Thanks OP.

no but female mc is an alpha lesbian that gets all the girls wet

And this was a surprise to you? You're literally retarded.

Is the PC version censored?

How quickly will this be price dropped or put on a steam sale? I'm open to buying the PC or Switch version at some point.

Summer salé probably.

Alright, I'll keep it in mind around then.

No

The full edition with all DLC (Limited Edition) is already on sale at -33% on Steam actually
store.steampowered.com/app/889600/The_Caligula_Effect_Overdose/

Still too expensive for an old game

Anyone else find the motion blur obnoxious?

It's a remake of an old game with a new game's worth of new content tho

is the game worth buying?

isn't it just a poor man's persona?

It's Persona without the polish

>New game's worth of new content
>Getting one extra route

The game had only one route before, now it has two.

>store.steampowered.com/app/889600/The_Caligula_Effect_Overdose/

Yeah but $70 still seems like alot, especially considering the new SRW game on Switch costs that much too and will probably be better.

>especially considering the new SRW game on Switch costs that much too and will probably be better
Be warned, Switch version of SRWT is not getting any DLC or patches, developer already made a statement about that.

SRW?

The asian english switch version of the SRW T won't getting any support (dlc or patches) because for some reason the SEA region lacks an eshop.

>Switch version of SRWT is not getting any DLC or patches
Why do japanese developers hate the Switch so much?

I heard that, but I already expected it since SEA doesn't have an eshop on the switch.
Super Robot Wars.

Super Robot Wars, /m/ autism crossover game series between various mecha anime

In this case it's because Asia literally doesn't have an eShop so no way to distribute it.

Bottom has more soul if I'm gonna be quite bqhwyfam

Are there waifus?

Yes but no romances

Oh...I only played original generation and the type-moon fan made one. Feel free to shit on me.

Its actually a problem with just the SEA version. The Japanese version is getting DLC in Japan.

Meanwhile I'm unaffected by SRW shit because I didn't watch most mecha and the ones required to understand the story all Gundam and have like 500 episodes each so lol.

played for 30 mins, like the combat but hated everything else, the game feels so shallow like the NPC system( talk 3 times to be a friend then do something to win a skill/item!) and it does not feel it will ever get better

Thanks for the spoiler now I don’t have to play.

Where is the anal fisting?
This isn't Caligula at all!

t's weird because while I've seen a shit ton of mecha, most mecha games bore me to death.

>something you learn in first 10 minutes of the game
>spoiler
Are you retarded?
