Settlers isn't really like those but the more military focused ones still had a city builder backbone if I remember right. Worth looking at the series and seeing what catches your eye to be desu

i prefer real time as long as it isn't mmo shit. turn based is okay too though. random encounters are shit.

Turn-based in theory is superior because it allows the player more time to make tactical decisions for the longterm and lets you make more difficult encounters/fights because you're giving the player more time to consider their options. It's just hated because it makes trash mobs take too much time to handle than they're worth and go hand in hand with random encounters.

Real time is always shit because the most dominant tactic is always spamming one or two moves and healing when necessary
