So, real time games or turn based game? No, you aren't allowed to enjoy both you must pick a side and irrationally hate the other.

Based and Turnpilled

I don't know why but I can't stand RTS but I love TBS.

Obvious difference to point out is the pace, but it might have been the kinds of RTS you were playing. You get some that try to go deep with supply lines if that's your thing, e.g. Fate of the Dragons, Theocracy and such

I need to check these out.

>Dragons
I meant Dragon, singular. Basically an RoTK RTS

Turn based

because some real time games have dogshit for combat, biggest recent offender is FFXV

There have been more good turn based games than real time games

Fact.

You right.

Settlers isn't really like those but the more military focused ones still had a city builder backbone if I remember right. Worth looking at the series and seeing what catches your eye to be desu

ATB > turn BASED > real time

/thread

i prefer real time as long as it isn't mmo shit. turn based is okay too though. random encounters are shit.

Turn-based in theory is superior because it allows the player more time to make tactical decisions for the longterm and lets you make more difficult encounters/fights because you're giving the player more time to consider their options. It's just hated because it makes trash mobs take too much time to handle than they're worth and go hand in hand with random encounters.

Real time is always shit because the most dominant tactic is always spamming one or two moves and healing when necessary

that isn't superior though it's just more suited to a particular style. real time is more realistic and creates more tension.

what if the game doesn't have moves or healing?

Turn based trash = movie

Action games >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Glorified VNs

Imagine comparing X's combat to XIII and XV and thinking real time is better in an FF game.

Just because XV is shit doesn't mean all real time games are shit you retard

to be fair XV's combat was held back by the director himself

BBS was serviceable action.

Not 2 levels of good but not 358/2 levels of bad.

XIII was fucking shit though, so was -2 and LR.

I have so many problems with this image.

In all seriousness fuck you I enjoy both styles of play for different reasons. Turn-based games let me take things at my own pace (whether it is rapid or slow). Real-time games have me change my attacks on the fly and face more/harder enemies in less time.

In the implied pool of RPGs you have more turn-based than real-time because it is easier to make turn-based games. The most common problem with real-time games is, if it is a party-based title, the ally heal/item usage tends to be shit.

I choose either depending on the game as they are mutually exclusive anyway. Check mate, faggot.
Turn-based is better for certain genres and types of games and the same is true for real time.

I don't even think that's the case, it's just that TB and RT make you focus on different things:
on a Turn-Based game you need tactical decisions and all moves are thought out with plenty of info and time,
on the other hand in a Real-Time game you need to make split-second decisions unless you have a pause of sorts, usually you're also missing some info because you don't have the time to look at the whole picture

Point is, the same genere/subgenere can be good with either Turn-Based or Real-Time, but in both cases you play it very differently, a prime example would be Blood Bowl, since it has both (not going to touch the subject of "is BB any good though").

Dead genre

Turn based, because the examples on the right were disappointing if nothing else. Only reason I dislike some Turn-based shit is because the harder content sometimes is less of "experiment, fail, repeat" and more of the usual "you're too low level", "your party composition will never be able to do content because of this character being a joke", "you missed a low drop rate item so no matter what you do you'll lose because its the only way in the game to prevent a specific damage type/attribute". In the end I get stuck and either have to grind (ruins the game) or go through walkthroughs to find out I could never beat it until I go through some sidecontent. And unfortunately, after either of those the whole thing becomes pathetically easy.

>go hand in hand with random encounters
you do realize that modern turn-based jrpgs usually have overworld encounters, right?

Personally I just love turn-based, whether RPG or strategy, partly because I'm a retard and need a lot of time to think.

I remember playing Final Fantasy II(IV) as a kid and just feeling weirdly pressured by the ATB combat, having to make these split second decisions without being able to really know the turn order and whether I'd be able to cast spells in time.

Of course as I got older I had to get used to it because most good JRPGS use some type of active combat. And it's much easier with stuff like Star Ocean, Tales and Seiken Densetsu where combat is basically real time and attacking or casting is fast and streamlined. But I'll never like it as much as Dragon Quest, Earthbound, even Pokemon where I can take my time to think out my moves.
