It wasn't nonexistent because it existed enough for you to comment, you're just a cornball. Some story points are just what they are and it isn't bad storywriting for all of them to be fleshed out, it was forecasted as an important part of the story, but the more you learn about arden and what's ... legit going to happen whether you like it or not... the more you realize it was nothing more than a political expediency and she was nothing more than a childhood friend with whom you have nostalgic longing for. It isn't a badly done part of the story.
