Why are JRPG's always tuned so badly, with difficulty spikes being sporatic?
You progress nice and steady, and enemies slowly become harder but then you face a boss that suddenly increases the difficulty tenfolds.
Many JRPGs do this, like FFX and Persona 5. No boss is unbeatable, but I'm really annoyed by the genre's tendency of not having well-balanced progression.
Any time a JRPG becomes difficult you are expected to grind or abuse a mechanic. I don't mind dying to bosses, but if the boss required me 10 minutes and several fights to get back to him it's boring rather than fun.

>zoomy cant into grinding

Outside of flu days Death is still ultra hard. Heck, even with flu days, Death is still ultra hard. If he recovers, it's time to run.
Cooper Diaz
it is fun for people who actually enjoy jrpg`s
Evan Gomez
>you are expected to grind or abuse a mechanic. Brainlet.
Asher Wood
I've had bosses take me an hour with plenty of desperate rounds and back and forth throughout. That's the challenge and fun of it.
Colton Evans
>implying any boss is difficult in FFX besides Dark Yojimbo >implying you can not summon aeon after aeon and overdrive the boss out of the universe
Ryder Nguyen
The Neptunia games are guilty of this due to scaling. Fighting a boss five levels higher than you, almost guaranteed death.
Jason Johnson
No game should force a grind, that's bad design. A game should let you progress steadily up until the ending, with a statically increased difficulty without sudden spikes.
>use haste >use aeon when you're about to die to eat the boss' turn
Bentley Scott
I was autistic enough on last playthrough to switch every character on every battle so everyone was pretty beefed up at that point. I even fucked up and ate that mega annihilation shit and survived it couldnt remember how many turns it was when he actually does it but just barely.
Only complaint i have with the game is the sphere grind, fuck that
It's just that some bosses have a crippling weakness to Zanmato
Isaac Mitchell
Not a single boss in ffx or persona 5 was difficult.
Luis Ross
Why hasn't the "u have to grind bro" meme died yet?
Brody Garcia
FFX fans are too devout and use MIX. This enrages the grinders
Matthew Powell
I bet OP is also simultaneously the same kind of person who says "JRPGS don't have gameplay" or "JRPGs play themselves"
Liam Collins
Zanmato is the equivalent of beat the game button. If you play it for the story and Zanmato bosses you are better off saving money and watching them from Youtube
Levi Garcia
It'll persist as long as casuals can't accept that an RPG can be hard without requiring grinding ie forever
Lincoln Walker
Trying playing a good one instead.
Oliver Carter
There are times when it is a bullshit difficulty spike but most times it's simply that you are using the wrong strategy, what worked for others will not work for them and you just have to find what does.
Lucas Fisher
>Seymour is portrayed to be an extremely powerful summoner >People are surprised when every fight against him is actually hard I dont know what you expected to be honest.
Andrew Fisher
literally what boss was like that in 5? the only problem I had was with SP in the cleaner+traitor boss combo
I never grind in Jrpgs. They are always designed to where you can beat the enemies using the available mechanics. Also games are not fun without difficulty spikes
