It's honestly not that bad and I'm struggling to understand why just mentioning the name of this area is enough to send some people in to a cold sweat. I'm saying this as someone who played the absolute shit out of Bloodborne and my first experience with Blighttown was on the remaster in case any of those things are enough to make it more bearable than to someone playing it on a PS3/360 as their first ever Souls game.

Honest to god I had very little trouble with Blighttown but Great Hollow pushed my shit in worse than any other location

I think I've been down Great Hollow about twelve times and I still think I've missed some items.

The thing is on PS3 the framerate would drop to about 5FPS. That's it.

You didn't experienced the real blighttown with it's smoothness of 15 frames per second

If you haven't been to the bottom of the swamp already you should get the rusted iron ring.

just replayed and Christ almighty is the lighting bad in blight town

I just replayed Dark Souls with my gf who played it for the first time and I genuinely had harder time with blighttown than her, even though she sucked at the game.
I say the location is cursed.

Don't listen to anons saying it dropped like crazy in blighttown. There grossly exaggerating and the only time the frames really dropped is if you had the camera at a very obtuse precise angle that you would never walk around with

It was 5 FPS on the PS3 back in the day. That's where the meme comes from.

Also people were just generally pretty shit at these games upon release. Your run of the mill shitter who has never touched the game will come into it just better by cultural osmosis at this point.

The fucking toxic dart guys are super annoying

Other than that though Blighttown is cool

The Blighttown is hard meme started from the PS3 version where it was honestly justified. It was carried on by PC gamers because blight town was a step up in difficulty from the Depths, but not by much. It is hard until you find out the blow darters don't respawn.

The real hard part about Blighttown is that, when you beat Quelaag you realise you have to go back up.

>The real hard part about Blighttown is that, when you beat Quelaag you realise you have to go back up.
And see that your fucking Firekeeper has been killed if you were dumb enough to free a man in a jail cell like that ever sounded like a good idea.

And for some reason they all have it

1-checkpoints
2-poison damage
3-fps
4-falling from ledges

But i like that area because it was more horror like than anyhing after DS1. Even Bloodborne.

>The real hard part about Blighttown is that, when you beat Quelaag you realise you have to go back up.
I admit I did it once:
>kill quelaag
>talk to her sis / unlock the covenant
>leave blighttown
>get to sens
>forgot to ring the bell

Fighting 4 kings was a pain in the arse with Firelink Firekeeper gone on my first playthrough
youtube.com/watch?v=T3d94pxVRQU&t=1m34s

nigga it was the framerate
all the other bullshit was doable, but the game fucking chugged the whole time

I thought I had it bad,
>ventured into demon realm because literal hell looked better than going back up bight town.
At least I got a cool ember I never used.
Fuck having to going back to Blighttown

Blighttown is just fucking annoying. I take master key everytime so I can just take the shortcut.

It was the framerates. Turned into a damn slide show on consoles.

>New Londo without fire keeper
how did you not quit

I had a good weapon and good armour and eventually figured out I could poise through most attacks If I stayed close and DPS the boss to death.
Glad I didn't browse Yea Forums before playing Dark Souls because I loved the 2nd half (except Lost Izalith)

If you played bloodborne then it probably isn't as bad. Most people went through blighttown 5-6 hours into their first soulsborne experience. That made it 10x harder than it already is.

You take care of that business in Anor Londo, though, I don't see the issue. You lose in the very short term, but you can immediately get her soul back and gain more in the long term. You're off at Sen's Fortress when you come back up, anyway, so there's not much downtime where the absence matters.

I don't hate blight town. I hate the gutter.

This. First time was pretty shit and long on the Ps3. Did not play it again for years after until. PC with 60 FPS and it was miles better.

In the original game, Blighttown would TANK the framerate. On everything.

Back when the PC port released, you knew you had a godly PC when the FPS dropped *only* to 20fps

That's literally it.

In the remaster, Blighttown is actually fun.

No, NOW the big problem is those fucking basalisks. Fuck those things

Gutter isn't too bad. The area that comes afterward is ass, though. But there's one that's even worse.

>First playthrough
>Had Master key as my gift
>Dropped into new londo, valley of drakes, and the back end of blight town at level 3
>Somehow got all the way down and manbaged to save in the bonfire inb the sewers bottom level
>Now stuck
>Pretty much everything one shot me
>Had to grind on leeches for 5 hours just to survive blight town
>Bewat Queelag as my first boss
>Ended up going as far back through blight town reversed, thinking that was the right way.
>Figured there was nothing, left back the way i originally came.
>back at firelink, didnt see the bell
>Now get to undead burg at level 29.

I had the same exact experience as you OP
>Had Bloodborne
>It got ruined for me so didn't touch it
>Picked it up last year
>Played the everloving shit out of it
>Platinum it
>Get DS Remastered
>Actually enjoy Blighttown for the most part
>Can't stand Sen's Fortress
>Anor Londo is pretty fun
>Painted World is a mindfuck
>Decide to go fight Sif
>Last area I remember is the one with the cats, the trees, and the 3 translucent hunter types that try to gank you
I kinda lost interest after that because of how vast everything is. It's great to have the Lordvessel. But there's all these pyromancies and weapons and upgrade types and if you want to 100% you need to go down a bunch of different upgrade "trees" and also there's a bunch of tail weapons which is easy enough except for Priscilla so now I have to deal with her on NG+ if I want to get her tail and on and on and on.

That area isn't called power point valley for no reason. Walking down there, having your fps drop into the single digits while suddenly dieing of toxic then panic rolling off a ledge is what made this place so damn unforgivable. Reaching the bottom was the biggest sigh of relief that I've ever had.

I don't remember struggling much at that area the first time I played DaS
I thought the swamp was annoying, but people exagerate how bad the area is

>why just mentioning the name of this area is enough to send some people in to a cold sweat
it's not a cold sweat, it's a hot sweat from the console's strain of trying to render it.
