i think it looks kino.

Because it looks good as an Amazon thumbnail

I think the McCarthy Vintage International paperbacks all look pretty good. They look nice side by side on the shelf; the book size, paper quality, font, and cover texture are good; and they don’t cost too much.

anyone know of a good epub for this, couldn’t find it on libgen

yeah those styles of vintage books are pretty comfy
Faulkner's books have similar editions, Joyce too.

try z-library fren

thanks user I am forever in debt to you

I'm with this guy though the covers of his two new books are legitimately awful. Does anybody actually prefer the Picador abominations?

disgusting

jesus fucking christ

Speaking of covers, it genuinely pisses me off whenever a cover has a bunch of quotes from reviews strewn across the front. Why do publishers do that?

to compensate

to sell the book. are you retarded?

the top right embossed golden one is kind of cool looking. but yeah these are atrocious.
can't believe someone gets paid to make these, and its approved for publication

Does it sell books? I refuse to purchase any book like that, and I have a hard time believing other people are actually influenced by the same copy-pasted bullshit about how this new work is "heartwarming" or "revolutionary" or "challenging" or "necessary"

I don’t mind if the reviewer is someone important. For example, my copies of the two volumes of Plutarch’s Lives have a review of sorts from Ralph Waldo Emerson. However, I couldn’t care less if the reviewer is some random literary critic.

probably because the volume has to be recognizable but not overly distinctive since most people buy books as home decor. a book that clashes too easily with the majority of other books or wallpaper/furnishings is one that won't get bought

The superior cover

i just bought child of god

I'm going to fucking vom

its ok to be poor user

This is one of the worst covers of all time to me
It just doesn't capture the aesthetic and feeling of the story at all which is the least a cover should do

I stumbled upon the same problem recently, though on lesser scale as it was just one quote on the cover. Can't imagine stuff like that really sells the book, people these days usually look up online what they plan to buy and at that point they could easily read the same thing on the website that sells the book.

Agreed would never buy this if i saw it in a store

I could probably make a more interesting cover myself desu.

If it's a book and author I haven't heard of and it has a blurb by someone I respect on it (Michael Herr in OP's cover of BM would be one), I'm much more likely to look into it more and buy it. These kinds of things are helpful when you branch out from just reading the same books Yea Forums shills daily.

that cover looks good tho

If you read a lot you are not the target audience for these book covers. You're going to buy it anyway because you know something about the content

Don't judge a book by its cover

gotta entice the 'sumer masses

/qa/ lost

sorry i'm a book autist hate modern publication aesthetics and think all nu publishing houses should rot in hell

1st ed paperback

this cover looks comfy. blood meridian is anything but comfy

I wonder if there's a company that will make custom editions of books with your preferred sort of cover
at least for shit that's no longer copyrighted

This is the best one I've seen

Blood Meridian has no edition with a good cover I think
I don't think so. They are usually cheaper than other editions though

If they took out that slanted white shit, maybe

I really like that red one, this first edition is okay.

They don't even look interesting to a random shopper though
This one's the best probably. I don't like the overlapping o's in Blood though

Based.

graphic design is really a dying art

lmao

kek

Suttree and Sunset limited look pretty cool actually, rest are shit

I don't think anyone really respects Amazon.com and NY Times anymore, which is who they quoted on my copies.
I don't use Yea Forums for book recommendations, people here have taste that is far removed from mine. My method is to dive into genre I'm interested in and see what strikes my fancy while browsing, but for that I use synopsis or even short excerpt, not someone's opinion. Atwood is highly praised and yet I found her dull and close to writing Mary Sue, just to provide an example of how opinions have potential of making me feel robbed.

The text on these is embossed which is a bit nice, but the quotes are so gay.

this is how it's done

Semi-related question: what book would be a good start to reading McCarthy?

Why does it have to be so difficult to find a hardcover of Suttree. It's his best book and the only one I have is a super cheap feeling Picador paperback (not as ugly as the one pictured above but also not great). The Modern Library hardcover is nice but ridiculously expensive.

No real reason not to start with Blood Meridian I think, it's one of his best and it's easy enough to find. Some prefer to start with The Road or even All the Pretty Horses since they're easier reads, but they're also definitely not as good as Blood Meridian or Suttree.

this is the one

hate the fucking pull quotes on these

Attached: b69.jpg (636x464, 75.35K)

lel, perfect

Alright Yea Forums, please help me pick between this two covers of Blood Meridian

You seriously need help to decide between that abomination and that decent picture?

No Country for Old Men is a decent starting point. The movie adaptation is worth watching for Javier Bardem’s portrayal of the antagonist Anton Chigurh.

Yeah, that's how much I hate that white slope bullshit

Just get the hardcover or the Vintage paperback then, goddamn.

m8 I'm poor, I can't afford that

then just pirate it

I can't read on a pc for long and I dropped my old Kobo like an idiot and now it doesn't work

then get a new one instead of buying physical books. don't tell me you plan to buy this and then after it buy another, and another, and soon you'll have paid more than you would have for an ereader on books you don't like the look of
only buy physical books as furniture. that is, only buy good-looking books.
if you actually want to read just pirate
