I wouldn't recommend any book but the bible. The more literature they read, the less likely they are to believe. And I need them to believe. They need to go to heaven. I believe in heaven. Why can't they believe in heaven? It's not that hard. Jesus died for our sins. EVERYONE'S sins. Why can't they appreciate his gift? If they are American, I might recommend they lead through Giussani’s *Religious Sense* just to introduce the perennial religious questions and why they are important in our lives, but I’m becoming more and more pessimistic about the ability of this culture to facilitate an encounter with Christ through text. I read dissertations and scholarly works about the Bible for school and these people know the Bible so well (form, redaction, historical criticism experts) yet they are unbelievers. The reason this is is because the only thing that will save you is the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. God has to save you. You have to be born again by the spirit of God through faith in Jesus Christ.
