I feel nothing. Literature died with Virginia Woolf in 1941, I would never, ever read genre fiction, and there is enough literature of merit from before 1941 for twenty lifetimes.

what the fuck does it mean to FEEL

Attached: 1308170626001.jpg (377x398, 42.49K)

They're the ones who will religiously consume formula-driven low-effort shit (not just in literature) so I can't blame companies for pandering to them

So many great books by white males that even if the publishing industry survived another 20 years non-whites and non-males would never hope to catch up.
They’re like medieval kangs building new cart paths and wondering how they can ever hope to match the roads that the long dead Romans built.

that is 17 sff novels I won't be reading

The same I feel about the "dominance" of film/tv by globohomo jews. I don't watch or think about it.

I just read stuff from the Dragon Awards because it's not completely pozzed

Attached: 1613103180870.jpg (474x400, 27.16K)

Nah, it died slightly after The Road, even though faggotry was slipping in with shit like Middlesex and Cloud Atlas. Still, men could write like men. Only guys born before decades before globohomo started (mid-60s) can still write like that.

I was under the impression girls buying YA scifi/fantasy written by women was more or less keeping the publishing industry going
>hunger games
>divergent
>twilight
>shadow & bone
>harry potter
that's why they keep making that stuff, historically big sales. What are men buying? I'm still reading shit written before 1990

Women read more fiction these days, so it's understandable that they would find female writer's sensibilities more appealing. I take no stock in the petty "gender war" thing.

My rule of thumb now is to never read a book written by a woman who was first published after 2010. It's worked really well.

>men
>under-represented voices
Yeah, because lets conveniently forget about centuries of white male monopoly in literature, right? Stupid incel-pandering bitch.

>moving the goalposts this far
dilate

True but in Japan for example you have ton of light novels aimed at men. Why is there no market for male ya books. Do western men/boys read less than asians or is it the publishers fault? I don't think any publisher has tried publishing litrpgs even though the genre seems to have a somewhat big online size

Why do you ask questions you know the answer to? Its pozzed all of it and it has been for the past decade

Plenty of stuff to read from before they started to rig all the sff awards. Personally I am enjoying some Harlan Ellison essays at the moment while ignoring anything and everything post 2012

Attached: file.png (699x544, 344.03K)

>literature died after [last book i liked] came out
you need to be 18 to post here

>falling for such an obvious bait
Go back or kys

>is an absolute turbopleb
>tells others they are underage
My opinions are correct and cool. Yours are wrong and gay. Go back to the sci-fi fantasy autist containment thread.

It's honestly what the market is. Men either
>don't read
>read classic literature instead of "this season's" YA-esque shit about queer brown muslim girls practicing witchcraft

It makes sense. Bored, middle aged Housewives have to do something with their lives and so most of them blog, write, or do art. They also are better at forming a circle jerk cult to elevate their own works or develop cult followings. So, it's not a mystery why they dominate an industry that's more about 'who you know,' rather than whether or not the writing is any good.

Unlike I don’t think it’s all pozzed. What do young western boys consume? It’s not books, its Video games, less and less are picking up books and when they do it may be a classic (or contemporary classic) that they feel compelled to read (like LotR, or ASoIaF). Boys are going where they are pandered to, and it’s just vidya - simple as that.

Boys watch anime and read manga.

Because books genuinely for young men would have rape and race war in them.

>globohomo started in the 60s
If you aren’t talking about the 1560s then you need to be 18 to post here

>how does Yea Forums feel about the dominance of the publishing industry (and the fiction reading public) by women?
Women don't, can't and won't ever dominate anything. It's the beta nu-males who are doing this.

Why would anyone publish as a male in the current year? It's the one industry where you can pretend to be a woman without even being a tranny.

I don't care, just makes it easier for me to get published if I wanna write something.

>how does Yea Forums feel about the dominance
>by women?

Attached: 069.jpg (600x582, 33.63K)

Women love rape in their books, especially in the form of explicit, pornographic sex scenes.

Speak for yourself lmao

they keep the lithography drums spinning so they're ready for the books that matter

*consensual rape

Isn't that an oxymoron?

Aren't there already so many books written that if it suddenly dropped by a factor of 100 there would still be way, WAY more books than you or I could ever possibly read? Do the lithography drums still need any more keeping running?

They're all garbage and not worth the time of anyone with a brain. There's enough Shakespeare, Homer, Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, Aristotle whatever to read in an entire lifetime. I genuinely pity people who unironically read genre fiction and unaware of classical literature. It feels soooooooooo good to be an elitist.

Attached: sample_7ddfb53b89eab8836ac6719102d9ba5a.jpg (850x1205, 532.95K)

There is still the occasional good book being written today, but very few. Then again, very few good books were likely being written back then either, it's just that the crappy ones have been lost or forgotten because they didn't stand the test of time. (That said, while in principle I agree this is an argument for reading mainly old books, I still read some modern works because I am LGBT and like to occasionally see people like me represented positively.)

>publishing industry
literally who cares, if you write stuff people wanna read you either don't need a publisher or publishers will flock to you, there's no point in trying to suck up to those jews

No, meaning one of the words doesn't mean what it's supposed to.

What do you mean?

UOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

how many of these will be remembered within a year of their publishing? how many will be remembered within 10 years?
what i am writing, i seek to challenge the works of milton and dante, i will probably fail, but i will die in the attempt at birthing a spiritual god on paper, and if i fail i hope to at least inspire the one who does write the next great work to be remembered for ages. and it wont be a woman.

Attached: mads.jpg (1080x1069, 199.19K)

>and it wont be a woman.
How do you know that?

there is one good woman writer in all of human history and her name is mary shelly, and until i invent a time machine and witness her writing it myself i will remain skeptical

Well that's certainly a take.

It’s good for laughs but I don’t care about modern fiction. There are plenty of great novels to read by old White men and a smattering of Asian and Hispanic men

The same way I feel about garbage dumps. Its a horrendous mess and theres far too much garbage in it. If you look long enough you might find a gem but really its not worth thinking about for any length of time

women can make fanfics about bugs and ETs they want to have sneeze sex with.

It's what women call forced sex, it's only from a male POV that it's indistinguishable from rape.

>What are men buying?
Statistically, among those who actually read, non-fiction.

on Goodreads they call it Dark Romance

I remember trying to look up some list of historical fiction novels to choose from. Now goodreads obviously is more normal, but then I've looked at some articles and they all were just fucking advertising materials. Books that were all less than 5 years old and usually coincidentally by the same publisher. And yes all written by women and half of them involving historical character being actually a woman.

>Do western men/boys read less than asians
yes.
countless studies are out there showing western men are falling behind in education and frequency of reading compared to women.

Her name is Mary Wollstonecraft. SAY HER NAME

I spent the early part of my marriage wishing my wife would read more, and now she consumes like 4 romance audiobooks per week

Like I genuinely had no idea how many romance authors there are or how many hundreds of titles drop every month, but this is apparently where the bulk of publishing is

>white people dominate the literature of white countries, which is bad we need more diversity
>white people in any other country is colonialism and gentrification and cultural genocide
>look it just is ok

that's her mum

McLuhan declared the end of book culture back in the 60s. No one is really interested in reading but the capitalists figured out that women will still read smut books about something or other so they still produce them.
There are still men who in an academic fashion take interest in classic literature but that is genuinely rather few people at the end of the day.

braindead cattle + democracy is the worst fucking possible formula

I would like you to consider the possibility that reading is, in fact, considered a very gay activity. Also men are falling behind in education generally. In America you're lucky to find ones that read magazines

Attached: gay.png (1243x762, 952.59K)

My rule of thumb now is to never read a book written by a woman. It’s worked really well.

We Need to Talk about Kevin is a phenomenal book. I also really enjoyed Interview with the Vampire, Frankenstein and A Company of Wolves. Nothing wrong with female writers; the malaise is in publishing in general - both male and female writers of the past few years have been remarkablely unnoteworthy.

Among gen-z, men don't read.

Good literatura after 1941:
>Miguel Ángel Asturias - The President (1946)
>Ernesto Sábato - The Tunnel (1948)
>Alejo Carpentier - The Kingdom of This World (1949)
>Camilo José Cela - The Hive (1950)
>Juan Rulfo - Pedro Páramo (1955)
>Julio Cortázar - Hopscotch (1963)
>Gabriel García Márquez - One Hundred Years of Solitude (1967)
>José Donoso - The Obscene Bird of Night (1970)
>Georges Perec - Life: A User's Manual (1978)
>Roberto Bolaño - The Savage Detectives (1998)

Married dude here. My wife is a hardcore reader but she exclusively reads fantasy written by women. I have been trying to get her to read Crime and Punishment for years because I know she'll like it, but she never does. She just gets the next fantasy book

same but i have never read a book written by a woman ever and don't plan to

Good luck with the inevitable divorce.

>>don't read
>>read classic literature instead of "this season's" YA-esque shit about queer brown muslim girls practicing witchcraft
agree, or they're reading non-fiction about Rome or Napoleon or something. or they're reading classics again

so because a girl reads fantasy written by women for women and i like classical russian literature it means we'll get divorced?
interesting

That dude's so retarded. Having similar interests but with slight differences is better. Then you have new things to talk about.

agree that this is the best way for couples. gotta have similar interest enough so you have things you can do together you enjoy but having differences makes things interesting and allows for new experiences together to keep things fun
took my girl to a Gojira concert and she was in the crown moshing and headbanging despite mostly just listening to pop

Do you mean CNC? Or what?

If it were chosen without any racial bias, you'd expect it to be proportional the percentage of those demographics in the population, no? So half men, half women, 60-something percent white, etc.

This is the 2019 Hugo award winner for best novel, and this is why I won't read female authors. This garbage is being put out there solely because it's written by women so I have to filter them all out.

Attached: 122.png (574x705, 130.39K)

there was once a time where women write under male pseudonyms because they were afraid nobody would buy their work. i wonder what happened to those times.

It's bad but
>By which I mean: sex
got me. Too bad the following sentence ruins it

I don't participate in society, I don't follow trends, I despise normies, but I don't think about them much, I don't care about any of this; I stick to my obscure tastes and keep to myself.

women are retarded and write like shit but women buy more books than men because they like to read retarded shit written by women

Whatever the opposite of ego death is, that's what women suffer from.

Honestly anything after McCarthy is downright gay and communist desu.

I don't give a shit about printed tv.

based

i don't read books published after the cold war ended
not my problem

Its somewhat irritating. I go shopping for new releases in hopes of finding a gem, but all I get are female authors whose prose style mirrors that of a script for a marvel movie.

this girl needs her behavior corrected via rape, i can feel it

Women are bored and most men are ugly hairy goblins, so a good romance novel gets the pussy pumping. Men do the same with fantasy sci fi schlock.

If you deviate from the mainstream, you will simply never be published

Attached: basedfr.png (400x300, 185.95K)

I avoid anything written by women or with female main characters.

Virginia Woolf was a shit.

youtube.com/watch?v=E3D2VXgGZ6c

She's probably full Jewish, but because she's born in the Americas she can parade as "biracial".

Submission had too many scenes of women licking the protagonist's asshole for me to take the book seriously.

Why would you expect something like this? Men and women are different, blacks and whites are different etc

lol wut

No I mean physically forcing a woman to have sex with you and she's physically resisting but really in her mind she's consented. There is no way a man could tell, for all he knows he's just raping. But a woman can tell, and it is a common fantasy.

Who do you think sexpats are?

The anime Noein: to your other self. It's about alternate dimensions and stuff. Really, you watch it for the nostalgia tho

your book isn't published because it sucks

>tfw you publish the wartime diaries of a fascist samurai and it sells a total of eight copies
Could it be that men just aren't as voracious readers as women are?

Read the book, it happens multiple times.

a lot of negative things but not enough to do anything about it (like start some underground publication or actually go through with the "publish under a female persona, get large fanbase, expose them for enjoying straight white male literature" meme).

What utter delusion is this? This means you would assume that in all demographics the percentage of writers would be the same, the genres are equally represented within these groups, let alone that what they write is good enough to be published. There is absolutely no possible way on earth that what you describe would actually happen unless publishers work systematically towards that goal.

No classic would be published nowadays, too problematic.

I'm going to be honest, the fact that they're all by women and yet none of them will have any cultural impact only reinforces my prejudices.

forget all that hard shit, people here lament the death of the male author and see no connection to it and their refusal to buy any book published by a man within the last 20 years (if they buy books at all). it turns out that, for a market (and male authors are a market) to survive, it needs to be profitable, which means it needs people to pay for it.

>publish under a female persona, get large fanbase, expose them for enjoying straight white male literature
this happened though

How'd it go then?

Male writers are often mocked in online public spaces for their writing too, and nobody shows support for them. It's not like I'm saying we should coddle people, but it showed publishers who audiences were willing to support. I still buy male authors when I can.

mmmmh I got to wonder what happened in 2016.

Being male is tough. Always has been. For male SF/F authors the gates are being barred. What this means is you need to take your future in your own hands and sell&market through all the new channels. There are plenty, and the quality stuff will rise to the top as it always does. Let the revolutionaries kill the old publishers. It's all they can do anyway.
