I just saw that zero tournament and man,overall I really hate zero and it and it needs to be scrapped! First of all and most importantly, IT'S NOT VANGUARD! One of the best things about mobile card games is that its a great way to introduce first time ever players an opportunity to try out the game before they might buy into real cards and events. But with the different rulings of how grade 3 are triggers that get discarded during drive checks, pgs only work when at 5 damage, grade 2 rearguards are taunters, etc...all of these things arent even a real mechanic for the game that we all ended up enjoying. So if i run into people and they want to give vanguard a try...you cant tell them "try vanguard zero to learn the game" because it's not the legit game!
What they should of done is any of the following 2 things:
1. Make it standard format only since its the newest products they can use it to teach players how to play properly and promote that they could get the cards now and maybe include in packs promo codes where if you bought packs irl you could use those codes for the in game to try to get something similar to OR/SVR/SPs etc
Or 2: go the duel links route where they use only extremely outdated cards (from the og series) then slowly ease they're way into "newer" mechanics like limit break/break ride/ legion/ strides/ imaginary gifts. That way people can play the evolution of the game on mobile and understand how things changed and might be a good way to strengthen both the standard/ g era/ premium formats as well (still irl packs give promo codes for in mobile game is still a thing they can do)
Overall, PLEASE scrap zero and change it to the legitimate game where people can give it a try and learn how to play properly instead of this garbage.
There's also an "slide to boost and attack which unit part",why couldnt they just make you tap on the unit if you want to boost first then switch it over to what unit you want to hit with?

I think having two episodes focused on the other characters was a good balance before Shin comes crashing back in.
Also juxtaposing Esuka's predator like nature with one of the more in depth fights we've gotten since the reboot started was an interesting idea

I loved s1 because of Aichis storyline of being hyped but failing to achieve results only to literally switch to the dark side by playing Shadow Paladins.

Shinemon seems more like something out of a comedy anime where the kids are trying to not get their club disbanded also all the girls love MC.

This is Vanguard’s MO though. Comedic hijinks, slice of life with card games and a slow moving plot.

It needs good animation and SOUL for it.
Ever since the studio changed in NEXT, the soul has also mostly gone out.

A light hearted approach to "muh capitalism" filled with sidelines plot ideas and an uncompelling protagonist that takes more from classic heroes rather than the subversive type that Cardfight is know for, even more so than chrono did, all the while sidelining cardgames because they only have 3 plotlines ideas that relate to them since the show started and fell the need to just repeat then over and over to try and pull heart strings by changing color pallets

The problem is the other characters aren’t really interesting or compelling to watch right now, they’re just kind of there. I only really care for Shin and Esuka but they are kind of skirting around them and the Misaki plot point waiting for the right time I guess. Also, the lack of seeing the importance of Vanguard to these characters is very odd because that’s the bread and butter of this franchise’s themes.

Shin actually having to deal with the responsibilities of being a shop manager and setting up shop tournaments is unique and hasn't been done before in card game anime. I wouldn’t be surprised if they just alternate between full fights and then the usual skipping stuff. The thing that bothers me more is the connection each character has to Vanguard. It’s practically nonexistent. I couldn’t even enjoy these last two fights because it felt like drones throwing down cards. At least the other fights had a good character side to them to make up for the lack of card game playing.

I think you're being a little harsh/quick to jump the gun. Outside of arguably the protagonists they rarely told us flat out what a character's connection to Vanguard was in their first appearances

Well considering how short this series will be I don’t think it’s too harsh. And most of the other characters did have their connections established when they were introduced. AL4, Q4 minus Kamui, Morikawa, Ibuki, Naoki, Shingo, Kourin, etc come to mind. By now we could’ve had some good character work for Tonori and Mark. But they’re kind of just set pieces with gimmicks. Tonori gets angry when he’s hungry and Mark is a weeaboo nerd. Tatsuya kind of has it but it’s just a “get stronger” kind of thing.

The show's ending late-March, early April so we definitely have more time to flesh out the cast especially since it doesn't look like they're expanding it too heavily past who we have now and Team Cool Older Men.
