I was actually talking about the last chapter of the LN, not the last episode of the anime, some new shit happens regarding what you're talking about that changes the dynamic of her family issue and future.

yeah the way the characters contrast and also are similar is done so well. Hotarou and Satoshi are the best part imo. Satoshi is afraid of loving Mayaka because he doesn't want to become vulnerable from too much emotional attachment as he was in the past, and Hotarou is afraid of loving Eru because he's afraid of being taken advantage of and exerting himself unnecessarily (as he'd done in the past, which is revealed later in the LNs). their problems are different but the solution for both of them is abandoning comfort and allowing themselves to be vulnerable.

I'm not sorry Hyouka was pretty depressing for me because it just beat it in further that no matterh ow much you want it, no matterh ow hard you struggle what you nearly kill yourself for is but a half assed thoughtless effort for someone with talent and if you aren't like that what's the point of living? I liked K-On more overall. Hyouka's standalone episodes are great but I felt like the ending for all the major arcs (or storylines, whatever you want to call them) sucked. The movie one just ended up being oh no I guess they used the ending we made up and there are no consequences and it doesn't matter at all despite it being built up a lot to be interesting. The festival arc ended with Satoshi getting genuinely pissed at Oreki for setting everything up but nothing comes of that either and it feels like the whole thing was pointless. The festival side stories were fun but spending a whole six episodes to build something up only for it to actually not matter or change ANYTHING AT ALL annoyed me. I didn't necessarily want an actual confrontation, just a resolution that involved something more interesting than "oh this happened, let's have no one every acknowledge it". Maybe it's different in the LN, I don't know.
Everyone in Hyouka dresses extremely well though, I'll give them that.

That's quite the pessimistic view. The way I see it, the message is "it's ok to not do something you're good/bad at". The characters are always trying to be something they aren't, you need to find a balance and compromise, kinda like how Oreki does things for Chitanda but still goes back to taking it easy when it's done. It's about leaving your comfort zone without taking it too far.
