Bakuon Rettou is about as realistic and serious a delinquent series as you can get in its portrayal since Takahashi draws from his own experiences as a teenager in a biker gang. As opposed to a "realistic" series like Out which is based on a real article that, if the manga's anything to go by, is basically "and then everyone stood up and clapped" tier of realistic.

Pretty sure Hokuto has abandoned Akatsuki Otokojuku for now and started Gokutora as another Miyashita series. I assume they are very conflicted on what order they want to translate his work because they've started basically every one of his manga but abandoned a bunch of them and I think they're all part of a shared universe in the next series after Akatsuki.

Onizuka first appeared in 1991 (though the chapter would have been made in late 1990). Shonan Junaigumi started a few weeks earlier.

I was reading about how "Zoku" being the word for tribe is used a lot to describe subcultures all over the place. If there are any Japanese speakers that could tell me if there's any word for "deliquent culture" like Bosozoku, except Bosozoku is too specific to bikers not just delinquents. Furyozoku doesn't sound all that cool.

Bakuon is also a pretty low key series. It's not some grand epic about becoming the strongest banchou or whatever. It's just one dude's gang life warts and all. That's why I like it though, it doesn't really feel like it either romanticizes or villifies being a delinquent it just kind of is. I think the only part that feels a bit eh is the juvie arc but the last few volumes after it are fucking great if extremely melancholic. I just want the last few chapters dammit.

I was the guy who was doing them. Originally I was moving across town so I figured I'd take a week or so off. But honestly with cooldown/captcha and basically having to sit here and do nothing but monitor a thread for an hour every day while I try to get a chapter posted and hoping it gets at least a few pity responses so it doesn't get archived before I finish it just started to feel too much like a chore to keep doing it.

FWIW there's other series I've wanted to do at various points both on here and Yea Forums but again the site's just made doing long storytimes too much of a tedious hassle that I stop before I even start. Only one I'm still bothering with is Kenrantaru and that's because at this point I only need to worry about 5 chapters every 6 months. But not entirely because it's bad, just a number of things like it preceding the greatest arc in the manga in my opinion, so naturally anything else would seem low and generally just the fact that it's sad, with or without juvie Takashi's gang life is coming to an end so when he gets out of juvie it's not as jovial and fun as one would want, it's just more depressing.

A-bout strikes me as a series that isn't very good overall, but it has some great scenes to make up for it. The fight early on where Asagiri uses the ambulance radio to bitch out the guy who hit himwith a truck is great, and this is one of my top manga gags period.
