don't have to
if it's crafted with care and respect to the original while lending itself well to the new medium, it can be something incredible
3dcg has a bad rap because it's most blatantly been used clumsily in anime as a low(er) budget alternative to hand drawing shots that would have repetition, complicated movement for the camera, or objects that need consistency through changing perspective i.e. most notably vehicles of all types
some anime do this better than others, and others still manage to use it creatively rather than as a shortcut resource. cg shines as a focus or dedicated support given proper attention, rarely as a crutch.
this lupin looks like it was made by the best of the big budget western theatrical cg studios, and it shows in the care and quality

the future is bright

Reminder that the delusional Polygon Godzilla Movie defenders claimed this was bad.

That’s a movie, most of the complaints about CG are towards TV anime

This isn't anime, it's Dreamworks shit. I have more respect for Berserk 2016 than for this.

Finally a 3D CGI anime that doesn’t look like an early PS2 game while still retaining the original’s art style.

>movie
Doesn't mean anything. No one will work on TV with movie/game tier CG. It's simply not worth it.
What? No.

cg thread?

probably the best pure cgi film I have ever seen.

It took them this long after advent children that movie cgi should just be stylized like high def video game cut scenes without the purposely choppy framerate

It is bad though, except for the CG

99% of cgi films were best on release. See final fantasy. And I remember there should be some fancy CG super mecha movie.

the animation would be ok if it weren't for framerate and cheap vfx

No they were saying the CG was bad. Because they didn't want to admit Polygon can't do character models and jank animation

Etotama was really good at 30FPS.

now lets get a webm of it to see if it moves properly

It cant and I wont.

Where do I start with Lupin? Production order I assume?

Just watch whatever you want. The original series is great though if you do want to watch it all in production order.

Etotama and Infini-T force had good 3D

user please, let's not use words you don't understand.

What is this dreamworks bullshit?

>being such a weeb that being from nipland is more important than the actual quality
End yourself

Lupin looks good but Jigen looks like an atheist from 2007

>I have more respect for Berserk 2016 than for this.
Explain why

fpbp. Nothing inherently wrong with 3D.

>Lupin is still the best Japan can offer 60 years later

How can one franchise be so great?

anime = japanese animation

>70s were 60 years ago
time sure flies

>ugh guys I know I'm posting on a board specifically for japanese cartoons but I actually don't give a fuck about japan

At least it looks to be faithful to its source material, unlike that Dragon Quest disgusting Pixar-ified horseshit.

Attached: draqueshi.jpg (960x540, 69K)

This but unironically.

Also this.
It's just we see bad execution all the time because Japanese products are generally made on a budget.
Look at One Piece. It's the most popular anime in Japan, but because it's Toei they go 'Here's like, 50,000 yen. Make big CGI monster kthnx'
Then you get back CGI monsters.

One thing I can't fathom is why so often fully cg anime have such shit framerate. You don't need to draw individual frames anymore. Technically, most of the frames will work out by themselves. You don't need artists to "draw" the inbetweens anymore.

Attached: 1567927377605.jpg (209x209, 12K)

CGI ages like milk, though, unless it's really cartoony.
Do you want anime to become Yea Forums, user?

They probably think low framerate makes it look more like 2D.

>99%
Nice random and wildly false statistic faggot.

You don't need to be a genius to understand he's exaggerating, retard.

The point isnt about being anime or not, but shitting on it because it isnt jap wich is retarded

Watch every episode from the TV series starting with Part 1.

Because they want to make it look like traditional hand drawn anime, but it only works when the fake 2d look it's completely and flawlessly nailed, otherwise you get the usual disgusting garbage looking like cell-shaded Ps2 graphics with an horridly choppy framerate like it happens most of the times.

Arc System Works should create a studio.

but the op pic is cartoony

There's a difference between using 3DCG as a money/time saving technique and doing 3DCG with the same kind of budget you'd normally push into 2D. There's a reason Pixar has won most AW for best animated feature in the last 2 decades.

The framerates are up to standard, it's the lack of inbetweening. In regular 3DCG the role of inbetweens is taken by motion blur. In order to replicate the 2D style inbetweens in 3D you'd have to sink tons of money into custom motion blur shaders that would replicate that, it wouldn't be trivial and would require you to spend even more money than 2D would take, rather than saving it.

The reason why Pixar and Disney have won most AW is because the judges still see animation as for utter children and never actually see all of them. Spider-Verse was the first time they didn't win in ages.

God that looks awful

I didn't meant the OP one, just CGI in general. Remember Aldnoah Zero?

this, they probably just go with pixar as the default because it's popular and don't watch the movies. they will never watch something that wasn't made in Hollywood either

3DCG anime is on its way bros

Yes, now that these animation companies are finally starting to realize that you should still animate nearly every frame by hand.

Attached: FinalLesson01.webm (500x280, 2.74M)

To be fair the CG in the film wasn't the only thing that was bad. The script for those films were pretty shit too.

This series shits all over any other 3D anime I've seen. Wish there was more.

The company seems to be trying to emulate Ufotable these days.

Attached: FinalLesson02.webm (500x280, 2.67M)

Oh trust me I nearly flipped my 30+ pound computer table when I heard about Mechagodzilla.
But the thing that always put me off was how bad the CGI was and how poorly animated it was.
Yet people swore I was being too negative

>Characters and environment is 3D
>Effects are 2D
This is ass-fucking-backwards from what studios are doing today, yet it is clearly holding everything together really nicely. Shit is impressive.

except that route is expensive as all fuck and unless you're fateshit, gacha dollars wont fund a full anime
much to my infinite chagrin
any more hi3 webms?

I'm making them right now, if you want to request some, go ahead.

>chinkcucks
lmao

now we wait for the one piece netflix series upon seeing how awful it is we'd all commit suicide
at least i would

reminder that this is a mobage cutscene!
and outperforming all 3dcg on the market currently!

Wait.
Are you actually complaining a movie didn't use Toriyama's fucking hideous art style?

Attached: it feels.jpg (1268x884, 135K)

you know what had great effort put into the cg?
mother fucking BUBUKI BURANKI

Attached: bbk.webm (720x404, 2.99M)

What's the frame rate then?

How so?

Attached: FinalLesson03.webm (500x280, 2.4M)

Good CG with high frame rate!

Attached: 1430812838847.webm (480x270, 2.91M)

That looks really good. The framerate does kind of make stuff look weird sometimes though, the face scratch at :34 especially.

Attached: FinalLesson04.webm (500x280, 2.79M)

Because when the framerate is that limited, your fleshy brain is doing all the inbetweening, and it's far better at it than any computer. You have no idea how hard automated inbetweening will kill animation user; the only reason fake 2D games like guilty gear work is because they eliminated it entirely by manually posing each and every frame - and you simply don't have the time or budget for that in an anime.

Dragon Quest XI is one of the best looking games around, is it too much to ask for something similiar, more polished for a movie?

>Ufotable
Lol. Most overrated studio ever.

It looks good because it's not trying to emulate anime in the first place, but has good character modeling that matches the original. It's not exactly right to use this movie as a comparison.

cg often puts a lot more focus on dynamic and thoughtful camera placement/movement
you can place and animate 3d models in a 3d environment, but it doesn't come together without a creative eye for shot composition
