You're not looking at the full situation. When you do it turns out Ernesta is the least sympathetic person in the whole show. In Anna's case, her family takes in this girl who's lost her parents and they became friends. As far as Anna knew she had magic, a power that literally dozens of people in the entire world have access to, and the honor of her entire family is riding on her shoulders. Then, due to Ernesta's trickery she believed she was the greatest mage in the history of her family and everyone was in on the fact that it was bullshit except her. They just kept telling her she actually did that, letting her believe she was the best, and then ignored her to suck Ernesta's dick. How was she not supposed to be jealous?
Then after literal years, at the very last second they tell her she was never special after all and she was always fucking shit, and they won't even let her try to go the distance, they just keep saying "give up." How do you carry someone that far and then not give them the chance to stand on their own two feet just once?
Ernesta's problems are so small time in comparison and that's before bringing up Kuon or Nene.
