Making 'King' Arthur a girl who pulled the sword from the stone recontextualizes everything that happens in the Arthurian mythos in a way that adds extra context to what were previously standard story beats.

Arturia marries Guinivere purely out of a need to solidify his power base with a political marriage that had already been in the works even before the stone actually selected someone, under the assumption that it was going to be a dude. As a result, the marriage is loveless and that leads directly into Lancelot sleeping with the queen and why she was so open to his advances, and explains why Arthur was so weird about how the adultery was handled because while it had to be punish Arthuria placed the blame for WHY it happened on herself (like she did everything).

Mordred as what amounts to a magical clone of Arturia made to usurp his throne becomes a direct exploitation of the fact that Arturia and Guinivere can't have kids naturally, and the King's vehement denial of any kind of claim Mordred has gets interpreted as Mordred being worse than a bastard (an incest bastard of some kind) specifically because the common folk can't think of another explanation for all of the drama going on because they don't know the magic shit happening.

And so on. It makes for a surprisingly good story that builds on top of known Arthurian mythology without invalidating it. The same things still happen, more or less, just for VERY different reasons than what was remembered.
