Can anyone explain to me why it gets so much praise? Like it's okay but it always struck me as pretty average at best...

just because the characters arent high school girls going "EEEEEHH??" doesnt mean theyre bland. theyre fuckin adults

Why? Why does it need to be any deeper than it is? It’s an atmosphere piece with likable characters in an interesting world with great direction, a spectacular soundtrack and a wonderful use of the episodic structure. It doesn’t need any elaboration or anything else.

Im with this guy, i love it and dont need to validate myself to anyone liking it. you dont have to like it fren

It's not even a bad thing that the characters are two dimensional and never move on. Sometimes people don't move on and it's fine to portray that. It's just shown in the most juvenile, naive way that is wholly unimpressive to anyone who spends any amount of time on self analysis

Now elaborate instead of making vague baseless criticisms.

Music and style.

Jet makes peace with both his ex gf and ex partner. Faye accepts that she has no home to go back to. Spike accepts Julia's death in realizing he lost her a long time ago when he left Mars with no solid plan of returning, then accepts a final showdown with Vicious even though it will likely be the death of him. I don't see how any of them fail to move on or epitomize a 14 year old's idea of brooding. Maybe you've never experienced any big losses in your life, but the more important they were to you, the longer you take to accept them and move forward.
